My Life #MyGoogleZA Way @GoogleAfrica #Apps #SearchEngine

Hi Guys,

Google as I understood is something that brought the world closer to me and my awareness suddenly grew multi-fold to make me what I am today. Search Engine kept breaking all the fundamentalist attitude I had towards life. It broke all those shackles of superstitious I grew up with and challenged them in my brain to amend the same.

Gmail (by invite only) brought my friends and MBA assignments closer to work on the same as well as built-in-chat function which saved a lot of time. Orkut has testimonials written over by my close friends to showcase how wonderful I am or it was the Google technology behind that?

YouTube made me realize that I no longer need to go outside my home to find a teacher to learn photography or playing guitar but can work out on my own using the videos people shared from around the world. Now I have access to all the libraries of knowledge and even Geniuses in the areas can be my teachers without any payments to be made or admissions to be taken in universities.
Android Keychain #thelifesway #photoyatra
Google G1 brought “Android” in my pockets and along with the same my wandering in search of addresses was resolved with Google Maps slowly building itself with camera fitted cars going around the town worldwide to give me Street view. It helped me greatly on vacations as I could see beforehand where I am getting to. Not only I could see the city but also the beautiful planet with Google Earth

I kept saving my words and thoughts on the Google Drive and today I can still see all the shared planning files I had for my marriage 8 years ago with my wife.

That’s my and TheLife'sWay Blogger journey too with #MyGoogleZA and I hope yours will be exciting too!

Cheers!!!

Learning and Executing #Financial #Wisdom @FisdomApp #Investing #Smartphones

Hi Guys,

Life is full of opportunities and we try to make them work for us from time to time. But as our work and family takes center stage we could not make Money work for us. Money needs time and efforts on our part to multiply or at least retain its value over the years. Financial Freedom is something we all work towards knowingly or unknowingly based on the facts and figures or based on friends advice or based on our regular research from newspapers and other online materials. But not every decision works in our favor but now there is something that can help us take right choices with just a click of a button in our smartphones.
Fisdom app smartphone #android #thelifesway
Fisdom app #android #thelifesway #photoyatraI was looking for right investment products as I am travelling all the time, sometimes far onsite trips and can’t get the SMS/OTP that are generated for the bank apps which wastes a lot of time. Also it needs daily study to think about which are the right stocks or mutual funds to purchase and have in my portfolio. I am using ICICI Demat account for the past 6-7 years but then I wanted some app that can help me make the right choice of investment products but mainly my time goes in changing password every 14th day and using the password grid etc. I started looking on android Play store and found a lot of financial and banking apps which I installed one by one and found out that FISDOM to be the best among them all in user interface and several other features which I will discuss in this blog post. But in the ever growing market of smartphone apps where bank and financial agencies have their own apps what is so different about FISDOM

FISDOM is an investment management product which gives your financial wisdom to take the right decisions at the certain age with your risk capabilities to grow and make your investments work for you. FISDOM is available on Google play and on the web and soon iOS version will be out in Apple store.

Fisdom app 2 #android #thelifesway #photoyatraCurrently, a large number of people like me want to invest their money in stock markets and mutual funds but they are stuck in savings and fixed deposits to earn the least interest rates possible which sometimes just matches the rising inflation we are facing in India. Then there are much more challenges like no online application forms and complicated KYC process, no time to go to the branch with traffic and long queues, lack of financial understanding about the products and options available in the market. Above them all it takes a while to understand the market and it needs certain amount of time daily to make the right financial decisions.

FISDOM is built keeping in mind each of these problems and to help non-savvy person to get over them comfortably or people like me who doesn’t have time to research the market themselves. The app makes it very easy to a) become an investor b) make investments (currently in equity, debt and liquid mutual funds) and c) track money in a jargon free manner (No need to read the red herring prospectus unless you want to). This is one of the best features that even if I can’t track personally the SENSEX or NIFTY myself due to office or travel, this app will help me make the right choice by offering right products based on past performance.

Fisdom app 3 #android #thelifesway #photoyatraSecond best features is the online rather “smartphone” KYC process for FISDOM which is very seamless and leverages the phone camera and make it super easy for any user to get KYC compliant. Essentially I just took a series of photographs for my PAN card, address proof, cheque leaf, a selfie (of course smiling one as always) and that’s it. So no more filling of application forms and submitting it manually to a particular branch or so.

The app has a very user friendly interface and a 4 digit pin helps you to keep it secure too. The app consists of several tabs to make it easy for users mainly – Invest, View, Register, Learn, Help and other system specific details including changing password etc. On the Investment tab, the app allowed me to check my long term or short term goal scenarios - SIP, tax saving, investing surplus money and goal based investing (retirement etc). Investing surplus money has further three sub use cases which are investing into a) safe places like liquid funds, b) bond portfolios c) long term equity portfolios.

The third feature that I loved about FISDOM is that the app allowed me to decide on my asset mix (stock and debt) based on the goal I have in mind and then recommended me the best funds based on this asset mix. I could play with how much risk I wanted to take without having to depend on an advisor. I could actually check several options by playing with the risk pattern to check what kinds of options comes up and whether that can help me achieve my long term financial target. Building wealth is definitely my goal and FISDOM has helped me stay on target and reminds me that, it requires a strong discipline and systematic investment over a long period of time to achieve the same.
Fisdom app 4 #android #thelifesway #photoyatra
Unlike brick and mortar advisers, Fisdom's recommendation is purely based on internal research and is not influenced by commissions given by AMCs to the brokers. The research takes into account a variety of factors including past performance, underlying portfolio, fund manager track record, view on the markets etc and also customer's age. As financial markets gets changed every day the information gets updated in the app to recommend the best options available.

Viewing portfolio is very simple - there are no complicated jargon and relative returns. Money is just treated as money and you can track your portfolio in multiple levels. Fisdom also helps you keep track of your tax liabilities. You can also check if you are invested in Tax saving instruments to save Income Tax also. One another feature I loved is the option to withdraw money in a single click from any investment at any time (yeah, on a trading day only – I suppose) and amount will come back to my bank account for any emergency needs.

Knowledge is something that you develop over the years with reading or experience but there is a learn module in FISDOM where the app users can learn about various financial terms in their free time or breaks. I have the app installed on my Android phone and the options the Fidsom shows to invest in are best in trade but in the end as it all depends on the market and economy of the country, the risk we take is ours. FISDOM really makes us financially wise but now we have to trust ourselves to start investing early to build the life we always wanted to.

Cheers!!!

Precautions to keep Data Safe in case of Stolen Mobile #HTCOneLifeSA

Hi Guys,

Smartphones are easily stolen or lost, which means that it’s important to take the appropriate steps to improve the security of your device and data. Here are some tips on how you can keep your information safe from prying eyes if your smartphone ends up in a stranger’s hands:

1. Set a screen lock
A screen lock is designed to help to protect your personal information and prevent others from using your mobile device without your express permission. Most modern smartphone platforms make it easy for you to put a password in place that prevents unauthorized people from accessing your device when the screen is locked. This is the first step towards security.

2. Consider installing a security application
Many mobile apps are available to enhance the security of mobile devices. These security-related apps are often available for free or at a low price and can provide the capability to remotely lock, locate, or wipe your device.

3. Back up your data
You probably keep valuable information on your smartphone, including photos, videos, and contacts, so backing up your data in case your smartphone is lost, damaged, or stolen is a good practice.

4. Set a SIM PIN
Many devices support the use of a personal identification number (PIN) to lock your SIM card. Setting the SIM PIN may help to prevent people from accessing your cellular voice or mobile data services without authorization. That will help prevent a thief running up your phone bill after he or she has stolen it. This was the biggest problem I faced when he started calling and sending my friends and family random text messages which were vulgar and rude.
What to do if your device is lost or stolen
  • Report the loss to your mobile network as soon as possible: If your device is lost or stolen, immediately notify your provider so that they can suspend service to your device.
  • Remotely locate, lock, or wipe your device using a security app: If you have installed a security app you may be able to use it to remotely locate, lock, or wipe your device.
  • Report phone theft to the police - If your phone has been stolen, you must report the theft of your device to your local police department. This is a legal requirement of the Regulation of Interception of Communication and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act 2002, better known as RICA. You will probably also need a police case number if you planning to claim from insurance.
Take precautions to keep the mobile away from the display while driving on the highway or in town at robots. It's important as we don't remember anything these days as we have a habit to keep the device as our personal assistant with calendar, meetings, apps, mobile numbers and important goals. Also, always look behind on the seats you were sitting before leaving any location whether it's office, movie theater, restaurants or any other place you visit for the first time to keep a tab on your phone.

Cheers!!!

Spring Clean your #Android Smartphone #HTCOneLifeSA

Hi Guys,

While you’re doing your spring cleaning, why not take the time to clear out the clutter on your Android smartphone? Getting rid of the apps you don’t use, the songs you no longer love, and all old messages, videos and emails can clear up some storage space for new content. We keep on accumulating stuff inside our mobile devices - knowingly and unknowingly sometimes. I generally clear up my phone from time to time as it gives a faster performance if you keep apps you don't use to the minimal.

Start out by checking how much total storage you have and determine how much is still available under your phone’s settings. If you’re running short of space, HTC recommends that you take these easy steps to clear up room for new apps and media on your device:

1. Save photos to online storage
Photos, videos and docs on the phone take up a lot of storage space. To reduce the impact on your storage space, you can set your phone to automatically upload photos to an online service such as Google Drive, which you can download from Google Play, if you don’t have it already and own an HTC smartphone, then Google Drive will give you 15GB free storage for 2 years. Otherwise, keep storing them on your laptop from time to time to create space in your smartphone.

2. Remove unused apps
If you have apps installed on your phone that you rarely use, uninstalling them will free up some space. Clearing out the app cache on your phone is also a great way of freeing up some space. Also, HTC gives you access to disable apps which won't be taking running space on your device but will stay in your settings>apps to enable again if anytime you want to use them again.
3. Export files and data to a computer
If you have work-related documents or other confidential files on your phone, you can easily move them to your computer. Using your USB cable, plug your phone into your computer, your phone will be recognised as a removable drive, allowing you to access the file storage and from here you can find and copy the files. Once done, you can delete the original files from your phone or simply cut and paste to save the effort.

4. Clear out your downloads folder
Your Downloads folder can get clogged with images, with PDFs and other files. Check through the Downloaded folder on your phone and delete these files from there. Alternatively, you can connect your phone to your computer and delete files from there after taking a data dump so that you don't need to download the same again if required in future.

5. Use High-Speed Memory Card
Add a micro-SD card to your device to increase storage space and transfer your files onto the SD card once installed. This will not only boost your phone’s storage, but the speed too, with a smartphone such as the HTC One M9 supporting additional memory cards up to 128GB. Don't use a slow SD card (series 4) as it will easily be corrupted and will really slow your smartphone, better invest in series 10 cards.

Cheers!!!

An Android App a day - 31. Snapknock

Hi Guys,

It's been a while I have blogged about the android apps. My HTC One went through a bad battery phase and has been replaced by a new one by the company. Thanks to HTC! I love HTC as this is my third mobile from their company.

Snapknock is a upcoming app with facebook collaboration for buying and selling used books, movies and video games and whatever you want to sell. People can bid for your items and you can sell them asap.

The app is available at -

https://snapknockweb.appspot.com/

The company and the app has recently got the back up from Venture Capitalists in Canberra, Australia under GRIFFIN Accelerator program. Check the article at http://www.startupsmart.com.au/financing-a-business/venture-capital/canberra-based-accelerator-program-announces-2014-program-participants/2014063012620.html

As they say, early followers makes better leaders and so I am backing this app completely. This app has been developed by a Software Engineer with work experience in Google and Quora, California, USA.

An Android App a day - 21. Diversion

Hi Guys,

Another game from the Google Play store which really tested my nerves as I continued playing it till I reached the end of it is Diversion. It has great graphics and amazingly new obstacles to pass through with right timing to cross the same. This is a running game in 3D format and you can spend all of your free time going from one level to another.

Diversion has more than 200 levels and difficulty level keeps on increasing just like other games. A third person camera angle captures the whole game play.

I have played a lot of the same while traveling in London Tube from Wembley to London Bridge and the time spent in travel seems to be always less than what my character needed to reach podium.

Enjoy this gem and run run and run a lot.

App Rating - 4/5

An Android App a day - 19. Flipkart

Hi Guys,

Flipkart has been the most successful online store for Indian customers offering all types of stuff. These days a lot of contests offer flipkart vouchers as prizes so that the customer choose their own stuff. The mobile app will give a chance to browse through the various stuff at your leisure. I downloaded and tested the app and found the same to be really working well as I could easily search what I am looking for.

This app will definitely help us in window shopping or some electronic stuff research before taking a buying decision. We can quickly check the price of the stuff online at flipkart and check offline store or the actual store where you are standing. This app will really help people like me to make a faster decision to buy in store or at online store.

The GUI of the app is amazingly fast and good. Till amazon reached it's zenith in India, Flipkart stays to Rock!

Duolingo : Learn Languages Free is an app which gives you access to learn Spanish, Italian, French, German and many other languages for free of cost. The lessons starts from basics and has integrated tests built in the app. Once you clear the tests then only the app allows you to go for next level of learning. Pronunciations as well as spoken aspects are taken care of in this app. I have tried many apps but this is the most useful and powerful app to learn new language.

In case, you are sincere about learning a new language this is the right app for your smartphone. I have been using it since many weeks and learning Spanish. I hope that I am sincere enough to reach a benchmark point soon.

An Android App a day - 6. MXPlayer

Hi Guys,

MX Player is one of the most advanced movie file format player on your Android smartphones. It has much more features that any other movie player. It has this pinch to zoom feature which can enlarge your overall movie experience to see the details. You can swipe your fingers and many a features will be taken care of like voice, seek, subtitle seek, brightness etc.

I have been in love with QQ Player but then I tried using this player and really loved some of the features. Though I installed both of them on my smartphone HTC One as sometimes, the things look great in one or the other player. But the choice is completely yours, both the players are equally capable and if you happy with QQ then continue using it and if you feel to change then MX player is one of the best one available in the Google Play market.

An Android App a day - 5. DailyHoroscope

Hi Guys,

There are days in our lives when we need some divine interventions or the words of wisdom or hope and we seek this advice from some of the so called guru's who can predict our future. I need this hope all the time and really fall in love with the motivational and hopeful predictions of my sunsign daily on this DAILYHOROSCOPE APP.

This is a great app if you need daily horoscope for your sun sign. It also has Chinese Horoscope as well as Druid horoscope. It also matches the compatibility between two signs.

Overall, I have been in love with this app from the day I found out that this one is the best among all available on the Google Play store. I have been reading it's daily horoscope since 2010 now.

An Android App a day - 4. QQPlayer

Hi Guys,

What made me fall in love with the android smartphones was the ability to play any file format you simply drag and drop into your phone or sd card memory. QQPlayer was one of the many movie players I tried until I finally settled for this one a long time ago. QQPlayer has got good features in it's kitty. Brightness and audio controls can be done with simple swipe of a finger. Refreshing your playlist enables it to search for all the locations for any video's recently added.

QQPlayer plays everything from AVI to MKV. It has really given me freedom to play all the movies/serials on my mobile and carry them to see whenever I am free or traveling. There is also a lock folder where you can hide videos that you don't want anyone to see without providing a password.

Overall, it's a great software and a must for every android smartphone.

An Android App a day - 3. ZenHabits

Hi Guys,

I don't want to put the same apps which all the websites are flooded with because you all know them and all of them must have installed the same on your smartphones like Kindle and other apps.

Zen Habits is one app if you love reading small blog posts on Meditation, living and walking with mindfulness, and other life inspiring articles. This is one of the blog I have been following since many years and this app has really helped me carry all the articles offline and I can read them whenever I feel like.

The writer of the posts - Leo Babauta has really inspired me to live the life moment by moment. I really love to read everything what he writes and follow the same.

This is really a great app as all the posts if you click twice will go into Already completed reading mode and all other remains in unread mode. This helps you to see which ones are still pending to be read.

App Rating - 4.5/5

An Android App a day - 2. Tweetcaster for Twitter

Hi Guys,

If you are very active on twitter and maintains more than one account this app is the most useful one. I found this one very easy to operate with a lot of features. You can copy someone else tweets when participating in some quiz based questions. The hashtags and the handles will come be shown in the ribbon underneath based on the maximum used by you, so it makes it very fast to tweet in FFF types of contests.

Also, you can see the favourite tweets in another tab, also you can see the tweets people have done for that handle and a lot more trends and popular hashtags are shown too. You can zip people, DM people, add a list, search people, see nearby tweeples etc.

This app is really fast but the only thing, I am unable to see is the snaps shared by people on their timelines. There is not a direct way to see them, if something is there, I have not been able to find the same till now. Also, if you refresh it multiple times, it puts you in a kind of refresh jail which is not the case with Twitter official app. I hope if this is taken care of, this app has way to go.

But overall, I love this app and totally been using the same since Feb 2013 when I had to operate 4-5 twitter accounts as with using this app you can tweet from all your accounts with same content in a single tweet and post the same on facebook also. I have been able to win many twitter contests using this app so I am thankful to the makers of this app a lot.

I would definitely recommend people to use it and see the same for yourself.

APP Rating - 4.5/5

An Android App a day - 1. MobisleNotes

Hi Guys,

Just a random thought came to my mind as I have been using Android mobile since it was first launched by Google in their G1 mobile. I had the luxury to use that mobile and afterwards used Nexus One too till my recent purchase of HTC One. I thought of sharing the best apps I loved them since I always download, try and then delete the apps if not liked them.

The top of the list contains the MobisleNotes - is a kind of Notepad, TO DO app which gives checklist kind of view. You can get this app from Google play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobisle.mobisleNotesADC&hl=en

I loved the app a lot because of it's easy design and integration with all the android apps using your email id. You do some changes on one of the android device - may be on tablet and the same will be synced with your mobile phone. This app has really helped me keep the track of all the online & twitter wins. I have used the same to set my goals and books I want to read. It helped me track my expenses too. It's easy to note down some quotes you read somewhere while traveling.

I really love this app and will really give it a mandatory app for all android smartphone owners.

APP Ratings - 4.5/5

Cheers!!!
