September is the month South Africa celebrates the diverse cultural backgrounds of its people in dress, food and general way of life. Heritage day is set to bridge the divide between people who have rather more in common than otherwise and are sometimes unaware of it; a beautiful spectacle to witness. Bright colors greet the eye; questions around identity get answered; feasts on the best exotic delicacies are had… The doek (dhuku), Afrikaans for head wrap, is part of the cultural expression for African women; not only in South Africa but the continent over. In celebrating heritage month this year Indoni is embarking on an online cultural celebration campaign geared for the entire continent, #MyDoekMyHeritage.
The head wrap is different things to different people but a common “crown” on the heads of African women from Cape to Cairo; it is a symbol of self-respect and pride. A trendy one at that for African women, even in the Diaspora. A head-wrap is a common women’s cloth head scarf in many parts of southern and western Africa. In South Africa and Namibia, the Afrikaans word ‘doek’ (meaning ‘cloth’) is used for the traditional head covering used among most rural elderly African women. In other parts of the continent, terms like ‘duku’ (Malawi, Ghana), ‘dhuku’ (Zimbabwe), ‘tukwi’ (Botswana), and ‘gele’ (Nigeria) are used. For the BaTonga women, the opportunity to wear a ‘dhuku’ usually falls on a religious day of Friday, Saturday or Sunday, or other ceremonial functions such as the Lwiindi Gonde, Kuomboka and other initiation rituals. In South Africa, the Doek (Iduku, in Zulu) is culturally worn by married and engaged women, Sangomas have always worn doeks irrespective of gender, as a symbol of their spirituality but recently young women wear it as a fashion accessory to social events. Various political parties have also designed doeks bearing their logos, for women to wear at their rallies and conventions.

Indoni seeks to preserve culture and restore it as the “old new cool” by introducing the #MyDoekMyHeritage trend as a way to move towards a boundless Africa, and to remind people of the actual reason behind this cultural practice of wearing doeks. We are one people divided yet brought together by the world; aesthetically, socially and otherwise. We need to always remember that we are one people and to better remind ourselves it is important that we find and celebrate our meeting point.

Huawei and Leica Camera AG announced they have expanded their strategic collaboration with the establishment of a jointly operated research and innovation center, the ‘Max Berek Innovation Lab’. The launch comes seven months after the public announcement of their long-term technology partnership in the field of optical engineering, and five months after the launch of the globally successful, multiple-award winning Huawei P9 and P9 Plus smartphones.

The new lab, located at Leica’s global HQ in Wetzlar, Germany, will drive further development of optical systems and software-based technologies to improve imaging quality in a wide range of photographic and mobile device applications. Additional outcomes will include the creation of computational imaging, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) solutions. In addition to R&D resources from both companies, Huawei and Leica plan to collaborate with German and international universities and research institutions.

The lab’s establishment is the result of the vision and support of Ren Zhengfei, CEO of Huawei and Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, majority shareholder and chairman of the advisory board of Leica Camera AG.

The Osmans - A @BluBloodSA Force to be Reckoned With #BluBloodWay

@Our_ebenhaezer Walks Away With Coveted @SavannaCider Newcomer’s @ComicsChoice Award #2016

The year 1994 saw the birth of what would some twenty years later be one of the first comedic voices of the “Born Frees”.

He may be the new kid on the block but Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has proven to already be a firm favourite amongst his peers. He walked away with the coveted Newcomer Award at the 6th annual Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards which took place on Saturday, 3rd September at the Teatro at Montecasino.

“I’m truly honoured to have received this award – it’s my heroes recognising what I’m doing!” commented an excited Dibakwane. The comic gave a memorable performance during the awards with his stand-up and various sketch comedy routines.

With his fresh, clever and unusual take on politics and life, Dibakwane is one of the most exciting up-and-coming comedians on the scene at the moment.

Recently becoming a more frequent face on the comedy scene some of Ebenhaezer’s highlights include recently opening for Dillan Oliphant, being part of the Stand Up 4 Comedy ensemble alongside Mo Mathebe and Virgil Prins, being billed on the line-up of Blacks Only and the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival alongside the likes of Trevor Noah, Jeff Ross and other South African greats.

Ebenhaezer was recently invited to write sketches and perform on the latest hit sketch show, Bantu Hour which is co-hosted by Kagiso Lediga and Hugh Masakela and has also appeared on the ANN7 sports show, Game On.

Ebenhaezer will also be featuring in a brand new sketch show called COPPS that has kicked off on Anele’s show on 947 on Tuesday, 6th September at 17h55. The sketch also includes his fellow PG Comic’s colleagues Chris Forrest, Mojak Lehoko and Warren Robertson.

Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) South Africa proudly announced today the official opening of the first two Huawei customer service centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The service centres are open to customers and will provide the finest service satisfaction under one roof. Customers can look forward to dedicated services such as training sessions, onsite device repairs, free device engraving and an extensive range of accessories to choose from.

According to Charlene Munilall, GM of Huawei Consumer Business Group SA, Huawei has a wide of range of products and services that are not always available to customers and with the store opening this will enable more customers to have a hands-on experience with all products.

“As an innovative brand, Huawei intends to create an interactive space where every customer is important and will be treated as such by our in-store tech heroes. We understand that consumers seek holistic experiences to fit their lifestyles and our service stores succeed in providing this”, says Munilall.

The service centers are situated in Melrose Arch in Johannesburg and in Canal Walk in Cape Town. These stores have been designed to integrate technology, service, and repair in a seamless fashion to give customers the convenience they desire from an all-in-one experience hub. Both stores will allow consumers to have the best possible service and experience with free WIFI.

Value Added products and service
In addition Huawei select is a service offering for high-end value products providing a solution for broken screens, liquid damage, and the store will provide onsite repair and replacement for P8, P9, P9 Plus, Mate S and Mate 8. There will also be a VIP service for Mate 8, P9, and P9 Plus with a service offering including door to door collection

These offerings are targeted specifically for high end products as Huawei believes that a premium brand and premium service is inseparable. The service store is allowing South African consumers to experience the brand in a way they never have before.
