Hi Friends,

We always have some of the other questions which raise some kind of doubts in our mind. Earlier when there was no Wikipedia or the internet, people used to read about the same in the library in some of the printed books or old newspapers. They will dig deep into all the news articles, encyclopedias, and specific books written on the topics of conspiracies. We are always intrigued by the unsolved mysteries in our lives and our brains are automatically attached to solving those on our own. 

Netflix series on Conspiracies showcased 12 episodes 42-44 minutes long on various mysteries that still are open for discussions where people have all kinds of opinions. The List of those episodes are underneath - 

1. Nazis - Has Hitler actually killed himself or it was staged and he escaped? 
2. The Royal Family - Mysteries related to the Royal families and their affairs? 
3. The Cold War - How did it all started and who was behind this? 
4. Disappearances - Looking at some of the famous deaths and disappearances
5. The Hollywood Files - Various mysteries related to the film industry
6. Aliens - People claiming to have encountered some kind of mysterious life from other planets
7. Assassinations - Mysteries surrounding the deaths of JFK, Pope John Paul 1 and others
8. Murder at the Vatican - Roman Catholic church and the mysteries related to the establishment
9. Faking the Moon landings - Whether the moon landings were just staged to beat Russia space program? 
10. Pearl Harbour Coverup - Did it actually happened or could have been saved because they got information beforehand? 
11. Drugs, Pop, Punk and Death - Various music artists like Jim Morrison, Rolling Stones and mysteries related to them
12. The Lockerbie Plot - The mysteries related to 9/11, Pan Am Flight 103 and many others

Each episode covers some of the questions you might have and they will give you both sides of the arguments and keep the discussion open for your brain to further delve into those topics. The series is from 2015 and I watched the same last year but somehow kept thinking should I reveal the plot or what shall I say about all these things. But this is one of the topics that will have different impacts on every brain as someone might have more interest and well-read on certain topics and for the other, it will be the first time. It does open your mind to don't take anything whats showcased to you without any further investigations. Always check and challenge all that's taught to us by our schools and colleges. It's always great to research and digs deep into the topics you find interesting. We now have unlimited resources at hand which can help us in the same venture like the internet and Wikipedia and other sources which can really give us some perspective.

Sometimes things come in your life to make your life more pleasant even if they come for certain hours or sometimes days. A similar event happened with me when Fujifilm send me their mirrorless camera by the name of Fujifilm X-T100 to test and share the results. Though I am late by many months I am going to describe what I felt and what I used the camera for with some shots from the real-life events which I attended with this camera.

I was invited to dine Jozi Style at Thava Restaurant in Montecasino, Fourways, Johannesburg, South Africa and I thought of taking the camera to the blogger's event and take some low light photos as restaurants always have dim lights during dinner and even in lunch too. The only thing I checked was that the battery is full and it has an empty SD card to take the photos and also I checked if there is some app via which I can transfer photos to my smartphone via wifi so that it can be shared on my social media platforms.

Fujifilm is one of the pioneers in the mirrorless industry and when I held this camera in my hands I knew why. The small camera is packed with features and specs which can even make any entry-level DSLR to go fetch the water. The whole unit weighs only 450grams, the camera looks retro and luxurious. The 3-inch touchscreen is able to tilt in 3 ways which will really help all the vloggers and bloggers. The selfie function with face detection will help you wherever you travel in the world. Fujifilm creative filters will add more fun to your photographs.

Another great feature is the 24MP APS-C sensor which is 14 times bigger than any smartphone camera has and does a 4K video recording easily and just you need an SD card that is capable of the same. The mount is Fujifilm X mount and it comes with a 15-45mm lens in the review unit. The retail price of the camera and lens is around R9000 and worth considering its size and capabilities. You will be able to use the camera right from the opening of the packaging if you have an SD card ready. The mode dials make the functions really easy to use.

The best part is that it has built-in electronic viewfinder if you are making a switch from DSLR camera into mirrorless cameras. The color reproduction as you can see in the images shared all taken by the review unit are amazingly great. The low light capability of this camera as already told won me the perfume worth around R3300 named Acqua Di Parma Colonia - Quercia 100ml. I am really grateful for this retro camera in black which is also available in 2 more colors namely Champagne Gold and Dark Silver. I really didn't want the camera to go back in 14 days as I could have used it in making my youtube channel videos.

The problem faced with this camera was in terms of the Fujifilm Camera Remote smartphone app to transfer photos to a smartphone which after some time automatically used to go into standby mode stopping the transfer so I have to improvise and only transfer 3-5 photos in a single go. The app really needs to be worked upon by Fujifilm as I have used Canon's Companion app which is seamless and easy.

Another one from Mugg and Bean - Moroccan Vegetarian Salad

There must be many more features that I didn't test at all in my scheduled time with this camera. 91AF points can certainly help you when you are focussing on someone's eyes and with the new smart mirrorless camera, they can track the eye movements easily which I didn't test on this camera. Moreover, the camera has a built-in flash which will pop up as and when required. The Li-ion battery  (1260mAh) life on this camera is enough to take 300+ photographs in different conditions and can be easily recharged using the power bank also though the manual says 430 images in ideal conditions.

At Zoo Lake

Overall this is a camera that you can start your photography journey with at ease without carrying high and bulky lenses and body. This camera is lightweight and capable to take care of all your daily needs as a blogger or day to day lover of photography. I would love to replace my old DSLR camera with one of Fujifilm's mirrorless generations of cameras. Thanks for the opportunity!

Tips to ensure the car you buy is safe to carry your precious cargo

The thought of giving up your sporty car to buy a bigger one, suited to a growing family might initially be mildly depressing, but after the initial heart-rendering thought, you are bound to find yourself feeling excited to look for a car that will cater to your growing family’s needs.

With all the other expenses that you will be facing, you might want to opt for a second-hand car. According to an article posted by Standard Bank, the Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) cautions that while used car prices can be friendlier on your pocket, some pre-owned vehicles might have mechanical gremlins and body damage issues that are undisclosed by the seller!

Safety is sure to be one of your highest priorities at this stage. This is not just a car now… this is the vehicle that will be transporting very precious cargo. How would you know if you are buying someone else’s problems? Here are some tips to ensure you eliminate the risks of buying anything that is not mechanically sound:

Do some general used car research

Start by knowing what body type (shape) of car you would need e.g. SUV, sedan or hatchback. Once you’ve decided, you can then make a list of the car models you’re targeting. The next step would be to do research on each car model to find out common defects, repair costs and maintenance costs as they begin to age.

Knowing the going rate

Mileage and added features can affect a car’s value, so cars of the same model and year may have different price tags. A good place to start would be to find out the book value of the standard models.

Ask, Ask, Ask

When contacting a dealer or an individual seller, get as much information about the used car as possible. Find out how many previous owners there have been, what mileage the car has done and if it has a full-service history

Check check check

Check the mileage: high mileage cars generally have higher maintenance costs and are more prone to costly repairs.

Check the tyres: tyres that are smooth or unevenly worn could mean anything from bad wheel alignment and balancing to worn shock absorbers, to a collapsed suspension system.

Start and test drive the car: a well-maintained car shouldn’t have any trouble starting or running smoothly.

Safety check: safety systems like seatbelts, Isofix and airbags are an absolute must to check. If any of these systems aren’t functioning, rather steer clear.

Test the tech: make sure that all electric and electronic systems are working.

When you’ve tested everything else, turn off the radio and pay attention to any odd sounds that could indicate problems.

Find the best deals

1. Attach Osmo Action to a Vehicle

To add a unique vantage point to your Timelapse, we recommend attaching Osmo Action to a vehicle while recording. You can use an Osmo Action Adhesive Mount and Camera Frame to do so.

2. Plan Your Route

The best conditions for shooting this type of Timelapse are straight routes with a lot of lights along the way. Additionally, it is best to avoid roads with too many traffic lights or busy traffic since long stops during recording will reduce the dynamic effect.

3. Select Timelapse

You can easily switch the shooting mode to Timelapse via Osmo Action’s back screen.

After that, adjust the shooting interval and duration.

4. Set the Shutter Speed

To create a beautiful effect of blurred lights, we suggest you slow the shutter speed to 2-3 seconds. If the image is too bright due to the slow shutter speed, you may want to use ND filters to help balance the brightness.

5. Start Recording

After you have completed the preparation, press the shutter button to start recording. After the recording is finished, Osmo Action will complete post-processing automatically.

Lightning Strikes Twice

Last weekend’s competition draws revealed a twist nobody expected. Husband and wife Antonios Hatiras and Daniella Pisanti-Hatiras both decided to purchase a Galaxy S20 and enter into the TV draw. As lifelong Galaxy fans, the couple purchased their devices and then waited for hours to be in the lucky draw, armed with two draw tickets. Their patience was rewarded. They won the awesome Q90 TV. My Tryst with #Loadshedding - Is it New or Lifelong?

Hi Friends, 

As far as I remember during my childhood, I have never heard of this word Loadshedding until I came to Johannesburg, South Africa in 2013. In India, I grew up amongst long and untimely electricity cuts in my town. At least here in South Africa, we have the timetable and smartphone apps telling us when the electricity will be switched off in which particular area.

During my childhood in India, I grew up in a city named Sirsa in Haryana. The summers were full of light cut-outs as and when felt necessary by the State Electricity Boards and then we used to call the department using the wired telephone. The number used to be busy and when we got the answer it used to be told to everyone around in the colony. Earlier, I used to study with the candles lit but then it increased the overall temperature of the already hot room during summers. To add the spicing to the environment, mosquitoes keep biting you disturbing your concentration to study making the overall experience torturous. Preparation of food by my mom was not a problem as in India we used to have LPG stoves installed which can be lit by a lighter or match stick to make tea, coffee or any desserts any time of the day without electricity.

When I was in high school because of strict study timelines and board exams, my father bought us the rechargeable lights with small tube lights in a carrying case. It used to give enough power to last for at least 2-3 hours of continuous light to eat dinner or study afterward. The mobile phones during that time didn't exist as we used to have those wired telephone lines which didn't need any kind of electricity at all. Either it's connected and working or the wire is broken inside your home somewhere or at the pole nearby.

As I was doing my engineering, I used to stay in a PG outside the hostel and there I used to have my room tube light linked to Inverters and faced no problem even in the night other than the fan not being connected and mosquitoes singing at the top of their lungs. One of my college mates used to be so jealous and eventually became my friend and roommates in search of light to study. His search for great opportunities has made him a great man in the IT industry now.

Once I went to my friend's sister's marriage ceremony and they used to live in a village of UP state. It was my first time staying overnight in any village whatsoever. I came across the fact that the light only comes from 11pm to 2am in the night or something close to 3-4 hours during the entire day way back in 2003. At that time people used to have Nokia mobile phones which could last long with a single charge and there was no concept of power banks etc. I was the one who invested in a Samsung phone rather than Nokia at that time and I can say it was the first phone bought by me with my own hard-earned money. I took myself away from the famous Snake game which used to be so popular on the Symbian OS and older phones.

Even when I started working I used to keep my phone charged all the time so that it can survive the load-shedding of the night and I can play games on my Nokia 7650 the first camera phone at that time. It got stolen just before I had to start my MBA and it threw me to go back to Nokia's first colored display phone. The strategy always was to keep the devices charged during the time when there is light and use the devices only when the light goes off.

Today, when it comes to losing power we have power banks, laptops and other devices which constantly need the power to work. The biggest being Wi-fi connection which has no alternative unless you provide alternative current to the same via the UPS or the inverter installed at your home. Wifi is the basic necessity and that's why a lot of LTE based devices with built-in batteries are coming in the market from Huawei and D-Link etc. I love lights and LEDs and buys them regularly in the sale at Pick n Pay or any other retailers to take care of me when the lights go off.

• The best way to prepare for Loadshedding is to have an alternate mechanism to cook food via LPG gas top stoves bought from Builders Warehouse or any other retailers. 
• Keep your devices charged whenever Loadshedding is being announced and have a backup device ready too which we all have hidden inside the drawers somewhere. 
• Go go to the local coffee shop or a mall where you will find plenty of plugs to charge while you have snacks - it may be expensive for your pocket but you get to vent out your emotions with like-minded individuals in the cafe or food court.
• Download TV series or movies in your device if you have Netflix connections which give you a facility to download your favorite series in SD or HD quality. 
• The long term method is to reduce your consumption and save electricity as and when you can. This will be a change in the habits and behavior to save the Planet Earth and unplug all devices not being used. Switch off all table lamps and bed shades. Switch to LED-based lamps and tube lights. 
• Go for the walk or uncompleted 10000 steps of the day while listening to your favorite tunes from the old iPod or MP3 players. 
• Spend time with family playing the old board games like Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and other popular ones like Scrabble, Pictionary, and Wikipedia. 

Loadshedding is a concept that will stay in the future and may increase as our consumption of electricity is increased. Earlier we didn't need Air Conditioning in the houses in Johannesburg but now it has become a necessity and similarly, London Tubes never had AC inside the trains but now the new shuttles have AC built into them. We can just spend more and more time in nature and see and watch online content at a certain time of the day will bring some efforts at our end but we will be happy with the output and also this is an opportunity to do a lot during the times of load-shedding.

I am happy with my Kindle Keyboard from Amazon which goes long without any charge and brings a lot of great books for me to read and refer to again and again. I bought the same on 17th July 2011 from Rhode Island, USA and still is with me bringing me all the songs, turns normal books into audiobooks and many more features.

Travelling With Your Fur Kids – Tips For Keeping Them Safe #Pets #ImperialAuto

Hi Friends, 

For any pet owner, there will be a time that you will need to transport your fur kid in your car. This may be the odd short trip to the vet or groomers, every few months or so, or a long road trip for your family “vay-cay”. 

Either way, you need to ensure that your pet is safely secured in the vehicle, for their safety and yours:

• The safest way for a dog to travel in a vehicle is contained in a crate that has been securely anchored. There are a variety of wire mesh, hard plastic and soft-sided carriers available. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s large enough for your pet to stand, sit, lie down and turn around in. It’s a good idea to get your pet used to the carrier in the comfort of your home before your trip.
• An alternative is to use a properly fitted dog harness that has passed safety-tests and is securely attached to the vehicle as directed by the manufacturer.
• If transporting a cat, keep them contained in a carry cage that is partially covered to make them feel more at ease; as cats can easily become scared in a car. The carrier must be ventilated and safely secured so it does not move around and hurt your cat.
• Pets should be kept in the back seat of the car, rather than the front. This will prevent them from being injured if an airbag deploys.

It is against the law for an animal to occupy any position in a vehicle which may prevent the driver thereof from exercising complete control over the movements of the vehicle.¹

If possible, try to get your pet used to being transported before any long trips to reduce stress. Introduce them to short trips first. Build up to longer trips slowly and only when your pet is ready and coping well jet set off for your annual family holiday!

In addition to ensuring your pet is safely secured, there are added things to take into consideration:

• If your pet gets motion sickness or is anxious during a drive – chat with your vet, as medications can be given to help them.
• Stop frequently during longer trips to allow your dog to exercise and go to the toilet.
• Make sure your pet is microchipped and has a collar with ID. Never take your dog out without a leash.
• Never leave your animal alone in a parked vehicle – even with the windows open. A parked car can become a furnace in no time, and heatstroke can develop. In cold weather, a car can act as a refrigerator, holding in the cold and causing the animal to freeze to death.
• Always have water in a bottle and a bowl so that you can stop at any time to give your pet a drink. For longer trips, you should remember to pack food, a poop scoop, plastic bags, and a favourite toy or pillow to give your pet a sense of familiarity.
• Don't allow your pet to ride with his head outside the window.

@SamsungSA and UWC Sparks #DigitalTransformation to Empower Youth

Samsung South Africa and the University of the Western Cape are on a mission to empower youth to overcome the obstacles to their dreams.

Sibisiso Labi’s story is an example of how organizations can make a difference: Labi, now 20-years-old, was among the thousands of child-headed households in South Africa. But the determined boy from the Cape Flats refused to be a statistic. At the age of 18, he found a job as a picker at a supermarket distribution centre. A year later he resigned to pursue his dream of becoming a web developer.

Today, thanks to an innovative collaboration between Samsung South Africa and the University of the Western Cape the 20-year-old’s dream is materializing. He is one of 40 students receiving web and mobile software development training at a new Future-Innovation Lab which focuses on building digital innovation skills for unemployed youth in South Africa.

In May 2019, Samsung South Africa unveiled its R280 million Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP). Samsung’s EEIP projects, many of which have a focus on education such as the Samsung Engineering Academy and Bursary programmes are focussed on preparing youth to place their future in their own hands.

This is aligned with Samsung’s global mission: ‘Enabling People’, which is aimed at aiding people, discovering and developing their full potential. The EEIP initiative is projected to have a measurable impact on job creation and a contribution of nearly R 1-billion to the South African economy at large. Now the EEIP R&D Academy, in partnership with UWC and Microsoft, has showcased exactly what can be achieved.

“We believe our EEIP strategy will help alleviate the many challenges faced by the country’s youth. This exciting stage of the rollout through the R&D Academy affirms our commitment to growing South Africa through education, and we have dedicated the necessary resources and time to create possibilities, which were once merely a dream,” said Hlubi Shivanda, Director: Business Innovation Group and Corporate Affairs at Samsung South Africa.

The Future-Innovation Lab aims to provide an opportunity to deserving previously disadvantaged youth (between the ages of 18-35, to gain skills in software development and digital social innovation.

“We need to support and create the digital literates to build the economy we all seek. This is something that cannot be delivered by the Government alone. We create a policy to make it happen but it’s by working together with the private sector that we can effect meaningful change. We embrace companies such as Samsung and Microsoft who partner with us on our journey to empower our youth to be at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, “said Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams at the opening of the Future Innovation Lab.

The six-month Future-Innovation Lab programme focuses on:

• The development of software development skills and portfolios that can open doors to employment or further training;
• The development of transferable skills and experience in digital social innovation and
• The fostering of pathways into industry networks.

In addition to the six-month development experience, Samsung and UWC partnered with the Microsoft AppFactory to deliver an advanced nine-month software development programme to address the gap of high-demand software skills. The target group for this programme is more experienced software developers who lack practical or work experience. The programme aims to facilitate hands-on, real-world experience through creativity and fun in a learning and working environment.

Professor Josè Frantz – University of the Western Cape Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation – said: “The University of the Western Cape, as an engaged university, aims to make research count for the communities it serves. We value the importance of this initiative which will empower and prepare students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
