Taking Great Photos - It All Comes Down to Knowing Your Camera and Your Subject #shotonnokia

Hi Guys, 

90% of people who have ever taken a photo have not used a camera. Those photos were taken on a phone.¹ Whatever phone you have and whatever you like to snap, there are a few fundamentals that can help improve almost any shot. Alright, let’s jump in.

1. Clean your lens

Photos looking a little milky? This is the biggest problem we see with smartphone cameras. Because the lens is so small, it’s very easy for it to get dirty while you’re using your phone for other things. You spend the whole day holding your phone, so make sure you wipe away those smeary marks before you start snapping. Remember to clean the front camera, too.

2. Focusing

Focus makes the photo. Try not to just point and shoot, but take time to make sure that the main subject of your photo is in focus. Most Nokia smartphones have touch focusing. Just touch the most important part of the image on the display and the camera will adjust focus to make sure it looks nice and sharp.

3. Apply the rule of thirds

This is a simple concept that helps you compose your landscape-orientation images. It’s based on the idea that dividing an image into nine equal parts to form a three-by-three grid creates visual interest. You should aim to place the main subject of your photo – like a tree line or a group of faces – in the intersections or along the lines. The left or right third of the image usually yields the best results.

4. Consider the flash and use night mode

Using the flash on your phone can sometimes result in too much noise and not great photos. With increasing performance in low light conditions, turning off the flash could improve your nighttime photos. Shooting at a concert in dark conditions? The flash is not going to reach the stage, only the people in front of you. At a zoo shooting through glass? You will have a bad photo and you could scare the animals.

When you are shooting in daylight and the subject is in shadow, that’s the time to use a flash – it can give some great portrait results. But in low-light conditions, like in the evening, try using Night Mode instead. A lot of people don’t use it, but it’s a simple and powerful feature.

5. Steady your shot

Smartphone cameras are sensitive to movement. Even a slight shake can leave a smartphone photo looking blurry. So, we want to minimise camera shake as much as possible. A tripod will stop this. The good news is that you can buy small, cheap tripods specifically for smartphones from most online vendors.

If you don’t want to buy a tripod, then using a wall, a friend’s shoulder, or even your other arm will help reduce camera shake. Keeping the shot steady is especially important in low-light conditions when the longer exposure times are that much longer.

6. Try using HDR Mode

Ever tried to take a photo of the sky, only for the scenery below to become lost to shadow? Or tried to focus on a dimly lit subject and notice that the sky becomes overexposed? That’s where “High Dynamic Range” comes in.

HDR mode brings out the darkest and lightest parts of your picture and creates a better balance of colours overall. The only downside is that, in HDR Mode, photos take a little longer to process, so avoid using HDR mode on fast-moving subjects or when you can’t keep your phone steady. But in general, it’s great when there’s a big difference between the darkest and lightest parts of your photo.

7. Learn your camera features

Learn what your phone does, and when to use them. You’ll want to turn on HDR for most phones for day-to-day photography. Use night modes for shooting in dim interiors, or outdoors after the sun has set. Portrait mode blurs the background behind your subject and is sometimes called the Bokeh Effect. Panorama mode when you are taking landscape photos so you can see everything around you.

It’s also worth understanding aspect ratios. Common aspect ratios include Full, 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1. Professional photographers use 4:3 for photos because it works well for computer monitors and for 8x6-inch prints. 16:9 is used for video because it works great for TVs and the 1920 x 1080 resolution.

8. Set your resolution high

The higher the resolution of your photo, the better quality it is. When taking images, try to go as close as possible to the subject rather than zoom in when you take a shot. Using digital zoom will reduce the image quality, so avoid it if possible. Whereas, if you get up close, you always have the option of cropping the image later.

9. Shoot your videos in landscape

Vertical video only works if the audience is on a phone, like in Instagram Stories, for instance. It does not work on TVs and screens though, because they are wider than they are long – in other words, they have a landscape orientation.

If you are shooting a video of something amazing that you might want to share on the big screen, or even YouTube, you should always rotate your phone to landscape so that you can fill the frame with your awesome footage.

10. Always know where the light source is

When taking a photo, it is vital to know the light is coming from. Smartphone cameras can only take in a limited amount of light. A lot of light can overwhelm the sensor and can also throw off its exposure. You should always ensure that the light falls directly on the subject. So, when taking pictures indoors, make sure the subject is facing the light source. The light source should not come from behind them, otherwise, the subject will be underexposed.

Unique Design Showcases Professional Photography Capabilities 

The design of the X50 smartphone enhances its professional photography features. Guided by a contemporary aesthetic, each smartphone in the series has a rectangular camera matrix with R3 rounded corners, giving it a simple but sharp appearance. Through consciously avoiding square corners and severe elements, the X50 series of smartphones offers a more comfortable look and feel. 

The X50 series’ camera matrix also features a Dual Tone Step design. Large protruding cameras are common among photography-focused flagship smartphones, but Vivo believed such a design would diminish the aesthetic appeal of the device. Instead, Vivo developed a creative two-level camera design that mitigates the protrusion of the camera matrix - and of the Gimbal Camera System on X50 Pro - enhancing a sense of depth and order while maintaining slimness. The upper component contains the main camera, bokeh camera, and a wide-angle camera, set within a black background. The lower section contains the periscope camera and has the same colour as the back cover, while a CNC (computer numerical control) glossy rim around the entire module provides a smooth finishing touch. The Dual Tone Step design serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, solving the challenge of requiring a larger camera matrix due to the use of larger cameras while adding a unique visual focal point. 

Elegant Design Brings Order and Sophistication 

The Vivo X series recognises that smartphones have become an extension of their users, serving as accessories that people use to express their personality and complement their lifestyle. As such, the X50 series returns to Vivo's original design aspiration to emphasise elegance and simplicity. In doing so, the new flagship devices with their warm and meticulous design, aim to help users express themselves and discover more beauty. 

In line with this philosophy, every X50 series smartphone showcases a unique choker pattern as its signature design feature on the top section. Modelled after the high fashion accessory that originated in France, the X50 series’ choker pattern disrupts the conventional appearance of the topside of a smartphone, while also making the device appear slimmer. The choker has the same colour scheme, simple lines, and line reflection effects as the smartphone’s broader CMF (colour, materials, finish) design, and contains the phrase “PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY”, highlighting the main USP of the X50 series. 

For X50 series’ colour palette, designers took into account consumer desires for personal expression and individuality. To deliver a high-end visual experience to consumers, Vivo cooperated with design institutions like the Carlin Creative Trend Bureau in France to create the colour palette. After sifting through nearly 600 prototypes, designers decided on three colours for international markets, namely, “Frost Blue”, “Alpha Grey” and “Glaze Black”. Both the Frost Blue and Alpha Grey models feature AG Frosting - a processing technology that creates a frosted finish on the glass surface on the rear side of the phone. 

To enhance comfort, visual appeal, and performance, X50 Pro also boasts a 3D flexible curved screen with COP (Chip on Plastic) packaging technology, leading to a slimmer (8.04 mm for Frost Blue and Alpha Grey, and 8.07 mm for Glaze Black) and lighter device. The screen is relatively bendable, flexible, and durable, making the phone less prone to damage. The innovative display design also reduces harmful blue light exposure and has an SGS Eye Care Display certification to prove it. Meanwhile, HDR 10+ technology ensures the retention of complete video brightness and colour information. Such customer-focused display features are a clear testament to the thought and the human-centric focus of the X series’ design.

This indeed looks promising and I will want to use the X50 Pro for some time and let's see if it can create Instagram ready to share photographs on my day to day lifestyle channel on Instagram and can shot some small videos for my Youtube Channel.

Hi Friends,

There is so much to showcase at the Global Village that this post is dedicated to Iran as that attracted me to enter its gallery and you will see why? 

During the day time, Global Village looks totally different and that's why it is opened in the evenings around 5pm. Changing lights, fireworks, fire, water, and fountains makes the whole thing look like Disneyland. 

The gates were really awesome with so many details in them and I immediately wanted to capture it all. 

Iran gallery has huge gates and these shops selling unique merchandise from the country. Now I am really not sure whether the stuff was made in China or imported from Iran. 

Just enjoying the view of the whole setup was really relaxing and put me in amaze. 

Look at the King in the center of the shops as I continued to go towards the same and this was one of the biggest highlights of the Iran setup at Global Village in Dubai.

This was Season 24 of Global Village so what will happen in Season 25 only they know but there will be great ambiance and more cultural showcases will be open to the public soon. 

I really loved the Season 24 of the Global Village as it had everything I could manage to see and wonder at this great park. 

In the end, Dubai is certainly a city to live and enjoy your life in and I would love to go there again and again if not live there.

Hi Friends,

A beautiful view from the Arabian Gulf looking towards the city of skyscrapers and what a view! Life is good when you are near the sea as they say the Vitamin Sea takes away all your stress and soothes your nerves. Check out all the other parts of this three-part series on my blog. 

La Mer Dubai by Meraas has something which makes it joyful and gives happy vibes to all the visitors. Look at this lovely and playful dolphin ruling the La Mer Beach and bringing all the necessary vibes. It reminds me of the love and passion I have for my new Instagram handle /thelifesway. 

The Meraas built this property in a world-class fashion to make Dubai Life much better with its several rewards programs at La Mer Dubai. The use of wood slabs and palm trees really brings the pirates of the Caribbean ship look of the whole place. 

The place is filled with a lot of shopping extravaganza and foodies paradise. A thing I have observed in Dubai is that even at value restaurants the food is tasty and you can fill your stomach for as low as AED 20 including a soft-drink or hot drink. 

My small one 2 years old Reyansh really loved entering the sea with his mother and sister. My brother too joined them for a while and Reyansh stayed inside till he was totally wet and needed a change of clothes later.  

The place is filled with wonders like this Doodle vent for the parking and basements make this whole place a unique experience. Even the beach has covered changing space for a single person and also there are showers to take a bath and also if you only want to wash your hands and feet, there are separate taps which I have never seen anywhere in the world. 

In the end, La Mer has my heart flying like a balloon in the air while I try to catch it back and also my breath. I wish I could have visited the place in the evening when the lights are fully lit and the place will look golden on the white sands of the Arabian Gulf at La Mer Beach 2.5 kilometers long in Dubai.

Hi Friends,

Beach vibes are always something that attracts us a lot and La Mer Dubai is a perfect spot to enjoy all day long. We spent some 2-3 hours at the location and totally loved the same. This is a great spot to do a picnic with the family.  

The La Mer Dubai is filled with Graffiti walls which are Instagram and Tik Tok ready. I was not able to take all the photos for all the walls as I felt really tired due to the harsh sunshine. 

I saw a lot of people walking and parking in the normal streets and crossing the streets towards La Mer where we parked underground in the parking. I only understood why they were doing so as the parking inside was AED20 per hour and I paid AED40 for my stay there in cash. 

But despite the high cost of parking inside the mall, the place is totally urbane and chic worthy of spending such a huge amount of money on parking. I am now not telling what it will cost for the ice creams etc as this place is not for cheap bargains etc. It will give you pleasure if you can spend some money. 

Keisha really loved the Turkish Icecream playing with her as he served the ice cream in a unique style which is not only fun to watch but brings much more fun. 

There is always something for everyone to do at La Mer Dubai as kids played under the small fountains and parents did bring extra clothes for them. 

I really loved this full-wall graffiti of local people being representing that person of every culture in whatever clothes - traditional or fashionable is welcome at La Mer Dubai and can enjoy his or her life with his or her family and friends. 

Here is the first view of the beach overlooking the Burj Khalifa skyscrapers making Dubai what it is and fetching a lot of footfall and tourists from around the world. Go check it out!

Hi Friends, 

Many things make up our thought patterns, perceptions and our way of seeing things and we always cast it in gold that it will be how we think it will be. But those are the shackles that will be broken sooner or later as you travel across the world and that's why they say that it's great to travel so that it open not only your eyes but the mind too. 

Dubai has so many eye-openers which you won't think that even exists in the city of Dubai but they are made world-class rather brought the world to the grand city of Dubai, UAE. 

Meraas Dubai has developed a La Mer Beach and the area around the beach into an old town and shopping mall full of restaurants, bistro, cafes, food trucks and the lovely graffiti walls and sea view. 

In short, it a small Laguna which is just like an old American town where you see cowboys and there are stores that only exist in America and are retailing in Dubai. Someone definitely took the inspirations from the old Hollywood movies or the actual towns in the USA. 

La Mer is a 2.5km long beachfront of relaxing white sand that incorporates minimalist and contemporary design overlooking the Arabian Gulf.  

The shops will suit the needs of a child to an elderly person to just relax along the beachfront. It also suits the pockets of every individual with products and eating joints ranging from food trucks to five-star restaurants.  

I totally loved walking around the La Mer beach despite the sun which was shining so high that even opening eyes was difficult that day. 

Overall, La Mer is something you would want to go, chill and relax with your friends and family. Even if you go alone, it's a place to just buy your favorite drink or ice cream and chill on the beach. Totally worth your time and try to go in the evenings or night unless you want to enter the Arabian Gulf for a swim in the ocean. Hi Friends, 

You can imagine how difficult is it to sustain the confectionary business where we see that the chocolates we used to eat in our childhood are no longer in the country and we are talking about the shop which was opened in Hamidiye Street during the Ottoman Empire in 1864 and is still standing tall.

Though founded by the father named Ismail Hakki Zade, the shop is on the name of his son Hafiz Mustafa who invented and founded Pogaca which are palm-sized buns with or without any kind of filling. Though father also was selling Akide which is hard candy.

Hafiz Mustafa was so good that he won 11 awards in Europe between 1926 to 1938 for his delicacies in the field of confectionary. Later his son Cecil took over before taken over by his wife and daughter. This is told that during this time the professionalism to be the world leaders made the confectionary gain word of mouth.

The company has changed hands thrice in the last 156 years of history and always been serving customers from around the world with the best of Baklavas, Turkish delights, hard candies, milk puddings, cakes, and many more items.

Despite being such a successful brand, the staff was cordial and helped to get you to your tongue's experimentation with various kinds of flavors with all respect. They never told no or pressured you to buy because they know you will as the taste slowly grows on you if you are eating for the first time also.

They offer sweets in different containers which can be called as gift-ready or collectibles if you like tin containers to keep your valuables later. Also, you can choose a single piece of different items and they will pack everything for you to enjoy at your leisure at home.

The baklava is mouth-watering and my wife totally loved the Pista version of the same. I really liked the Turkish delight in the Pomegranate flavor. The rates will be a bit higher as already told as compared to the rates at Duty-free shops in airports offering various other kinds of Turkish delights and baklava.

Someone rightly said that to win the heart of anyone, you need to make his tongue happy and what's better than a dessert which he can't say no to. I have always been a fan of chocolates, candies, sweets and whatever has sugar in it.

Hafiz Mustafa is an Istanbul based company founded in 1864 and making the best Turkish Delights and Baklava since then. They have definitely maintained quality and offer you the best of the best in their trade. 

Don't forget the name if you are in Dubai Mall just came out of Burj Khalifa the shop is right there and also they have a cafe to take care of your coffee and tea requirements. 

There will be something for every age and sugar level intake at this shop. 

I totally fell in love with the presentation of food items on the shopping windows and all these photos are what is displayed in the windows. 

The child in me really wanted all the candies inside this tray as I wanted to grab them in my hands and start munching the Turkish delights in different tastes and flavors. 

They also offer plenty of suitable gift items in your price range to take the best Turkish delights and baklava for your loved ones across the world.
