We are flooded with things that we need to carry along with us as we embark on a journey outside our home and sometimes during those situations we always lose control in terms of not finding the keys, bag as we roam around the house and our eyes are not able to see the thing right in front of us. That's what haste makes you as you go like a headless chicken yelling at the top of your voice and feeling irritated at the kids, wife or any other family member or maids. I have seen moments like this in my life from time to time despite commanding that the keys should only be kept at this location, the bags shall go here in this almirah, the important documents shall be put in this file but in our day to day living those rules are missed from time to time. When you miss these rules due to whatever reason, there is going to be an incident soon enough. 

Samsung has launched a new device that can keep your small worries away that can reduce your irritation and also enables that you keep track of them using your smartphone or even smartphone in case you lost that too. The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag comes in two versions Tag and Tag+. The Smart Tag basically makes anything trackable. The other function performed by a SmartTag is to enable any IoT device to turn on or off using the press of a button on the tag. The SmartTag only weighs 13 grams and feels like a premium device in its rounded square shape. It has a keyhole slot to attach to your keys, pets locket or anything which has importance in your life. 

Samsung SmartTag works on Bluetooth 5.0 technology and has a coverage of around 120meters. It has its own battery CR2032 which will last for around 300 days. There is a buzzer speaker which buzzes when you want it to use the SmartThings app preinstalled on a Samsung device. Using the app you can assign what happens when you press the button or keep it held. Using both the options you can control your other smart devices, send notifications to anyone and do various other things. You can adjust the volume and ringtone in case you want your tag to find your smartphone. It can be any other ringtone that is not assigned as a regular one on your smartphone making it easier to listen and identify your lost phone. The app also shows the battery capacity left in the SmartTag with sufficient being 16-100%, Low 6-15% and Very low from 0-5%. 

The best part is if you have multiple tags attached to various living or non-living things you can name them too. Also, you mark the category to which a particular tag is assigned to options being -

So as you can see the options and use is based on what your brain can think of as Samsung has provided you with the latest technology to enjoy. I really loved the option of attaching them to a Drone, Car or cane. The drone is something that gets flown away and has its own way of losing and the last I read the location drone provides is not exact whereas the SamrtTag will be able to navigate you to the exact location where your drone lost its power. The car is also one category which can help you during those shows where you park some kilometres away from the stadium and gets lost after the show. It has happened to me a lot during the Monster Trucks shows as well as always in one of the shopping malls and a yearly event of The Rand Show in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am sure the SmartTag will now guide me to the car and I need to test this feature on my next trip. 

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag retails around R499 per piece and there are 2 pieces packs also available at some discounted prices from various online retailers. It's currently only compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones as well as tablets with Android versions higher than 8.0. In the end, SmartTag is something unique and makes your things smart just be a simple attachment to the same. There are a lot of accessories that will be built across this new device once the market starts responding to this and the adoption factor becomes high. The Galaxy SmartTag + is another option you can go for but I have not had my hands on the same so far. I currently only have a single SmartTag but I intended to have a collection of the same in different colours for my several items which I want to track in the future. The Evolution of The Mobile Camera @SamsungMobileSA #MobilePhotography #DoWhatYouCant

Whilst Samsung cannot claim to have inspired the first duck face (pout), or the wagging tongue we see so often on social media today, it can lay claim to having spurred the mania when it introduced its first camera phone as far back as the year 2000. Back then even the names of the phones were unimaginative but being able to capture pictures with a mobile phone, using an image sensor of 0.35MP, is pretty cool even with a name like SCH-V200.

Two years later Samsung innovated the flip phone with its SCH-X590, which boasted an image sensor of 0.11MP, by pioneering a rotating camera, allowing users to capture pictures from the front and rear of the phone - sound familiar? Yes, this was the phone that birthed selfies on a grand scale [#Iconic].

Leading the pack, Samsung decided to up the ante on the flip phone and introduced a phone with a swing-style screen in 2003, allowing users to capture images from new angles. The SCH-V420 came with an image sensor of 0.3MP, granting it bigger pixels to accompany those creative photographs.

Leaping from one milestone to greatness, in 2005 Samsung gave the world a mobile camera phone for all aspiring pocket photographers. The SCH-V770 had a first of its kind 7MP camera, that supported manual functions and wide-angle & tele-conversion lenses. It also featured 3x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom and autofocus. Ground ‘shuttering’ stuff.

The year 2010 gave us the best soccer world cup to date and Samsung’s first smartphone. Even the names started getting cooler. The Galaxy S had a 5MP camera with a wide range of modes like panorama, stop motion and cartoon shot. The touchscreen changed how people interacted with their phones and viewed their pictures.

Good isn’t good enough if it can be better and in 2014 Samsung gave us better in the form of the Galaxy S5. Coupling the fastest auto-focus (0.3seconds) and Real-Time High Dynamic Range (HDR), the Galaxy S5’s 16 MP CMOS camera made pictures more vivid, brighter and instantly ready to be shared.

The more records you smash, the more driven to outdo yourself you become. In 2017 Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 8, its first smartphone with dual 12MP rear cameras with optical image stabilisation on both the telephoto and wide-angle lenses. The Live Focus feature allowed users to add a bokeh effect for more professional-looking portraits.

Craige Fleischer, Vice President of Integrated Mobility for Samsung South Africa, says, “Capturing images to remember special occasions has been part of the human story since the beginning of time – from rock paintings to the latest art portraiture. Samsung’s innovative development grew from the SCH-V200’s camera to what we have today. Even though this now feels light-years away, Samsung continues leading the way when it comes to superlative photographic ability. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphone cameras are simply the best on the market today.”

Having ticked all the boxes and surpassed its own imaginings, Samsung decided to reimagine the camera. From these alchemic efforts came the Galaxy S9’s camera. It is called a camera because the English language has not evolved enough to come up with the correct name. The-super-speed-dual pixel-12MP-with-960 frames per second-sensitive even to low light-reads-like-a-human-eye-camera allows users to capture the world as they see it in both bright and dark lights. It also enables you to express yourself using an emoji that looks just like you through its Augmented Reality Emoji feature. Users are able to create captivating Super Slow-mo videos to share with their friends and also make GIFs with three styles of looping: reverse, forward, or swing.

There was a time when there simply wasn’t much choice of products to buy or services to use. You used the local doctor, shopped at the greengrocer or butcher, milk was milk, and if you look all the way back to the year 1908, the only car on offer was a Ford Model T. As the world becomes a village and purchases can be made in cyberspace from anywhere in the world, not only do products have to stand out from the crowd, but customer service must be exceptional.

Digital communication may have changed communication in many ways, but it has also taken the customer experience back to the good old days when a handshake and a smile closed a deal or smoothed ruffled feathers – but with a twist. With the advent of social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook, it’s far easier for consumers to make their voice heard, instantly and very publicly. Now all interactions are out there in full color; whether it’s a complaint or a compliment, customers can air their opinions and experiences to simply everyone. Social media has made customers more confident and has changed the balance of power between brands and customers. This, coupled with the Always-On culture of today’s world, demands that companies stay on their toes and have quick come-backs and exceptional customer service plans. As Generation Y’ers and Millennials grow up and their buying power escalates, there’s even more pressure on companies to stay ahead of the game, because these market segments are not only highly proficient with digital communication, they also believe that experience trumps material possessions.

The experiences they want don’t just come to the fore after a customer has purchased a product or used a service – the journey begins with the customer’s need or desire. It starts with a presence in the right place at the right time with a promise that can be backed-up. Customers no longer simply pick the first product they see that seems to meet their needs. Before making a decision, they check – is the promise true, what have other people’s experiences have been, is this excellent value for money?

A brief social media post saying, ‘Hey I’m thinking about buying a new phone,’ will yield numerous responses which will detail peer opinions, recommendations, and warnings. It doesn’t matter if the opinions are skewed or even wrong – they will be the potential customer’s primary decision-making foundation. U.S. Research and advisory company Gartner indicates that by 2020, customers will manage 85% of the relationship with an enterprise without interacting with a human.

Richard Chetty, Director of Services at Samsung South Africa, says, “In a space where opinions can be shared at the click of a button, it’s imperative to ensure customer service is exceptional. No company or product will ever be perfect, but if you efficiently and effectively address imperfections or customers’ pain points, you’ll be able to retain them and gain others. The true experience of a brand happens when customer service is called upon to perform.”

Studies indicate that the perceived quality of a product only accounts for 13% of the decision to engage with a company – a whopping 69% of people stop doing business with a company because of bad service. Additionally, 88% of customers prefer dealing with a company with strong customer service as opposed to a company with the latest, most innovative products.[i]

“As a leading technology company, Samsung offers the very latest in innovation – and it is vital that our customer service matches that, as well as our brand promise that strives to make customers’ lives better. We are consistently creating new and innovative ways to ensure our customers can enjoy seamless use of our products,” concludes Chetty.

The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter how brilliant your product is, if you aren’t able to engage with your customers, they’ll stop buying from you. Whether your customers are complaining or complimenting, they expect to be heard, recognized and have their opinions addressed.

@SamsungSA Donates #Smartphones To @GiftoftheGivers #NGO #CSR

Samsung Electronics South Africa has donated 31 smartphones to a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Gift of the Givers South Africa, in an effort to support communications within the association’s emergency teams.

Badr Kazi, Corporate Liaison Manager at Gift of the Givers South Africa, says that advanced and reliable mobile connectivity is crucial for the organisation’s various specialist teams. “When our workers are assisting at the scene of a crisis, effective communications is quite simply a matter of life and death,” he says.

Kazi explains that Gift of the Givers teams must coordinate their operations under extreme conditions, often where telecommunications and power infrastructure has been destroyed. “With the assistance of our sponsors, we typically set up a portable hot spot and organise our operations using mobile phones. In a situation such as the aftermath of a natural catastrophe, these mobile phones have to be very reliable, rugged and easy to use, as well as deliver long battery life. We were therefore delighted to receive the advanced smartphones from Samsung, which meet every requirement we have for communications in areas that have experienced devastation.” 

Samsung donated a range of handsets with features ideal for this nature of critical work. Among them were the Galaxy K Zoom, a phone-camera hybrid with a 20.7 MP camera ideal for recording and sharing information about critical scenes and the Chat 333, with automatic chat group features ideal for collaborative communications by teams. 

“Samsung smartphones’ durable design, a broad range of intelligent features and long-lasting batteries will make them invaluable tools for supporting the important work Gift of the Givers rescue teams carry out. We always aim to be a catalyst to the betterment of people’s lives and are particularly proud of this initiative due to its potential to positively impact so many,” says Michelle Potgieter, Director: Corporate Marketing and Communications at Samsung Electronics South Africa. 

Gift of the Givers has a large team comprising disaster, emergency and ambulance services units. The response workers, led by Head of Search and Rescue Dr Ahmed Bham, have attended serious incidents around the world, including launching field operations during the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and setting up hospitals in Syria.

“We are extremely grateful to Samsung for this donation, which will go a long way to ensuring our workers are able to operate effectively in affected areas. Our management services will benefit greatly from advanced mobile capabilities we now have access to,” continues Kazi.
