Samsung Galaxy Buds Live has a unique shape and since the launch event on 5-Aug-2020 I wanted to have them in my kitty and it came true on Christmas 2020 when Samsung South Africa sent me an annual gift for the first time for all the support I did for the brand on my blog posts. I was really happy to receive the same in Mystic Bronze colour and grateful to Samsung for fulfilling my untold wish. 

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live design amazed the world with its unique iconic design and immediately after the launch event, people started mapping it to various shapes especially kidney beans. When the whole world is travelling the stem earphones route, Samsung broke the barriers for a new shape never seen before. I really love the comfort and fit Buds Live brings to my ears with its ergonomic design. The next thing is the bling that Mystic Bronze colour brings and the people immediately recognizes that these are Samsung Galaxy Buds Live. With a glossy finish on one end, the earbuds are packaged in a jewellery-box styled square charging case with 50mm length and breadth and the height of the box is around 28mm which is really great to open and close. The magnets are strong and keep the earbuds secure even if you try to shake the open case. It also comes in Mystic White and Mystic Black colour which I have not seen much because everyone wants this Mystic Bronze I think. Also, there are no buttons anywhere on the case and earbuds are touch-sensitive so everything is controlled via the Galaxy Wearables app or the touch. More about the app in the review later on. 

Instead of having silicone earbuds, Galaxy Buds Live has wingtips sizes (1 extra in the pack along with a USB type C charging cable) coming in the package that also secures in your ears. I never faced a problem of them falling even if I am running but may happen if you touching them, again and again, to increase/decrease the volume or to change songs etc. If you are touching them with force, also you need to adjust them so that they don't fall. The earbuds only weigh 5.6 grams and the charging case is 42.2 grams. The battery capacity of each earbud is 60mAh and the case has 472mAh of reserved power which charges the buds around 3.5 times fully. The Galaxy Buds Live are fast charging enabled where 5 minutes of charging can provide for 60 minutes of playback. As per Samsung, each earbud can last for 6 hours of continuous playback of music with ANC off and the charging case will provide for 15 hours totalling 21 hours in a single charge. The case has wireless charging where you can charge the earbuds using the Galaxy smartphone with wireless reverse charging. 

Each earbud has 12mm speakers with sound by AKG not forgetting that part to bring you a whole range of frequencies to cover low to high clear notes. The earbuds also have a bass duct to get that dhinchak effect in your ears. Air vents provide the necessary space to reduce blockage and putting unnecessary pressure on your ears. The earbuds also have 3 built-in mics - the glossy end has 2 and one on the rear side touching your ears along with a voice pickup unit. This setup takes the vibrations from your jaws to enhance the sound quality when you are on call etc. The touch on the earbuds is really responsive and can work even if you are wearing a buff as in South Africa, many people use Buff as their face mask. I use a buff to keep my neck covered during winters and sometimes takes it up to cover my ears too. Overall, Galaxy Buds Live has around 7 sensors which include an accelerometer, IR, hall, touch, grip, gyro and voice pickup unit. A single tap play and pause track, double-tap can play next track or can be used to answer or end the call, triple tap play previous track whereas touch and hold can be customized to users choice (ANC, Bixby, Volume up/down, Spotify) or to decline the call. 

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live also comes with ANC i.e. Active Noise Cancellation in an open type earbuds design. ANC provides some kind of isolation to your ears but you have to wear both earbuds to enable the ANC feature. There is a sound made every time you switch ON or OFF the ANC. Also, it only provides the basic ANC and is not as strong as you might expect from the in-ear earbuds because they already isolate a lot of noise using the earbuds stem going into the ears canals. In Galaxy BudsLive the ANC switches off very little noise from the surroundings but depending on where you are using them, it will provide some form of noise cancellation and will have ambient noise coming to you too. There is no way in the app to control the level of ANC as seen in the newer versions of Galaxy Buds. 

All wireless earbuds need seamless connections between all the devices you use your earbuds on and Buds Live has Bluetooth v5.0 supporting A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and I didn't face any problem in connecting them to my laptop, Galaxy smartphone as well as the other branded smartphones. The earbuds are compatible with Android v5.0 onwards and iOS 10 upwards.  

Let's talk about all the features available in the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app from where you can control these kidney beans shaped earbuds. Touch controls can be set to 4 options - ANC, Bixby, Volume Up/Down, Spotify. You can also block the touch completely in case you want to and in that case all controls need to be done via the paired device. The equalizers that are present in settings are 6 - Normal, Bass Boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear and Treble Boost. Find my earbuds is another feature that helps you find them as earbuds start making chirpy sounds if one or both are lost somewhere under your sofa and are still able to get connected to the main device. Labs provide the gaming mode which really minimises the audio delay for a great gaming sound experience. It also has an option to relieve the pressure with ambient sound to ease the feeling of compression when wearing the earbuds without the ANC feature ON. 

In the end, I started using them as soon I received them and totally fell in love with the design and quality of the earbuds. I totally loved the features as BudsLive was the first one of the whole series that I received as I had never used the Buds or Buds+ earlier in my life. Buds and Buds+ are still something I have never used but I have used the Samsung uFlex headsets (over the neck). I found the dynamic equalizer for my taste to listen to all the Bollywood music and other audiobooks and even during watching web series etc on Galaxy Buds Live. Though it didn't have the ambient noise feature of the previous generation but due to its comfortable size and fit, you will be able to listen to the other person voice with some kind of concentration and music being stopped. I have used them continuously while trying to complete all the episodes of various web series in a single go and easily lasted me for around 5 hours of non-stop audio. The case keeps providing power to make earbuds reach 100% while its battery decreases over time but I found that I didn't need to charge them for around a week based on all my listenings. 

I have stopped using the earbuds as much because I didn't walk for many months in the evenings due to being Corona Postive and weakness thereafter but I used them to connect to my laptop to attend office teams calls and other WhatsApp calls. Also, I never took them to the road when I used to go for long walks as anyone can easily recognize them and may try to snatch and grab so I never took that risk. I found that my voice goes clearly to the person I am talking to and these are really great for your day to day use. Overall, I am very happy with the performance of Galaxy BudsLive and this will remain in my Tech Museum for their unique design and for being the first of the Galaxy Buds series which I used in my life. I have always longed for Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Icon and many other released before these but finally, my draught was fulfilled by Samsung for the Farewell 2020 gifts. I received these Huawei FreeBuds 3 just on the last day of the lockdown when I went and picked them up from the PR agency of Huawei and grateful to them for giving me a red one to review and use them as my day to day Bluetooth enabled earphones. The first thing I fell in love with these earphones was the packaging Huawei always makes as it felt premium and totally loved the design of the overall structure. As soon as the box was opened I really loved the circular case which really was something unique and easily slips into your pockets without any edges causing any kind of irritation etc. The third thing was the ease with which these earphones gets connected to your smartphones or any Bluetooth enabled device even laptop and tablets. Just plug and play as it connects with the device immediately and if you take them out and put them back the music stops immediately. The fourth one which will definitely bring you to think about these is they have an active noise cancellation feature built into the same and you can adjust the cancellation as per your size of the ears and fitting of the earbuds. 

Last month in April 2020, I used them for almost 100 km of the walk which took me around 20 hours of music and audiobooks play. Along with that, I must have heard the live TV news channels for almost more than 30 hours or so using these earphones and lately I have watched several web series on the sleepless nights and the reviews of all of those are in the pipeline on my blog if not published till date. I really am in love with these earbuds from the stable of Huawei Electronics and various other electronic items I have received over the years in the goodies bags if you attend any of their launch events. I am going to post about all of them sooner than later and more focus is now on execution rather than thinking a lot. 

There is an app called AI Life by Huawei that you can install them to keep you and your earbuds updated and personalize the various touch buttons along with the noise cancellation adjustments. The QR code is supplied when you open the package along with various instruction manuals and warranty cards. I was not able to understand the circular button interface inside the app but as you rotate the same, it adjusts the noise isolation inside the earbuds to create a more controlled environment as per your ear size. Also, the app helps you to update the Huawei FreeBuds3 to the latest firmware and no need of Huawei smartphone like the Huawei FreeLace earphones which only gets updated when you are connected to a Huawei smartphone. The noise cancellation helps you to reduce up to 15dB ambient noise and though the generator volumes will go on as there is no silicon casing kind of setup which can completely isolate the external sound. My first opinion was to go back to the Huawei FreeLace earphones but the convenience to use 

Huawei FreeBuds3 offers audio performance using it's highly sensitive 14.2mm dynamic driver, with is able to produce natural sound and brings clarity during the calls too. It also has a Bass-tube which produces the audio effects similar to listening to the music inside the studio. This feature really helps me go through a lot of audiobooks as the voice clarity holds the punch on each word and sentence spoken by the reader. Moreover the FreeBuds 3 picks up voice from your bone vibrations to enhance your voice quality during the phone calls. Each earbud has a 30mAh battery and the case is equipped with 410mAh battery. This gives the earbuds to go for around 4 hours in a single charge and case then can charge the whole unit at least 5 times to make them work for around 20 hours. But then the performance all depends on the volume levels and noise-cancellation being used. I was able to get more than 3.5 hours in a single charge. The overall case and earbuds can be fully charged quickly in about 90 minutes or so. I don't have any wireless charging (Qi Standard 2W) set up or any smartphone with reverse charging at the moment so I could not check how easily these can be charged using the power of wireless during these social distancing times.

The pebble-shaped earbuds are made of glossy plastic without any silicon casing which sometimes irritates your ears and you have to take them out for your ears to rest. The Huawei FreeBuds 3 comes in three colors - Carbon Black, Ceramic White, and Red. But the overall casing fits easily in your ears as the weight is very low around 4.5g each and the case is around 48 grams. The company calls the design of the earbud as Dolphin Bionic design. The earbuds have a touch-sensitive option by which you can pause/play the audio from the right earbud and the left one enables the Noise-Cancellation. These options you can change in the Huawei AI Life app as per your convenience and most used feature in your life. What I have observed that the touch also works when I was wearing Buff over my ears as it was extremely cold some days back in Johannesburg. This was something that really made me a fan of these earbuds. The design of earbuds and casing is such that you won't be able to put right earbuds into the left ear or vice versa and also inside the charging case it will go in its own slot.

Moreover these Huawei FreeBuds 3 are really intelligent in terms of automatic wearing detection and Pop-up and pair to your smartphone. Huawei Kirin A1 chipset really enables all these kinds of advanced features in these earbuds. Kirin A1 is an ultra-low-power consuming processor that enables 5.1 Bluetooth connection and using Huawei Isochronous Dual Channel transmission technology and a class-leading 356MHz audio processor the FreeBuds3 brings music clarity like no other earbuds. I was afraid as I dropped each of the earbuds from my height of six feet to the ground in my walks but other than a small dent on the casing nothing has changed so the quality of these earbuds is great.

The retail price is around R3000 but you can get the same for around R2500 or so during the online sales on Huawei Store and comes with a free wireless charger that I didn't receive from the company. There is nothing else I wanted in these earbuds which is not there and these really look great in their design and performance. If you getting them when you are ordering any new Huawei Smartphone do go for the bundled deal as you won't regret your decision later. These are one of the best in the price range for sure. There is always a scope to improve the active noise cancellation as Huawei FreeBuds 3 needs to fight with the Sony's and Apple's of the world in this category of earbuds. RATING 4.5/5

Product Review - BeoPlay H7 @BangOlufsenSA #BeoPlaySA #TheLifesWay

Bang and Olufsen needs no introduction in the niche audio market. The earphones and headphone gear they make is extremely great and expensive for those who love quality of sound that BeoPlay devices brings to the sensory organs. 

I had a wonderful opportunity to review H7 headphones and simply fell in love with the same. I have used several headphones from all other brands but never felt so great listening to music via these headphones. For those who have paid around R7000 for a single pair of headsets without any active noise cancellation features etc. there must be something in the sound quality. I think at this price a user can easily go for Bose Active Noise Cancellation headphones and save around R1500 to buy Beats Sports earphones. 

First thing that you feel when you open the packaging of any Bang and Olufsen product is the quality and detailing it has. It's an experience for which you definitely have to watch the un-boxing videos available on YouTube. I simply adore reviewing the niche products and the happiness it brings in opening a mint condition product or any product as you feel the excitement it brings. These over-ear headphones weigh only 280gram and can be carried around your neck while not in use. 

I got the Bang and Olufsen H7 during the summer holidays and it was awesome to use them in office as there were no holidays for me in December last year. The leather touch and feel of the headphones is the best and premium. The headphones connects to your smartphones using the Bluetooth and has the option to use the 3.5mm headphones cable to connect.

The device has controls on the touch panel of the earphones by which you can control the volume along with next/previous/play songs. Its really good to use but will take a while to remember the gestures to use on the touch panel so as to perform certain functions. The on-off button is on the side to enable the bluetooth headpdhones. In case battery dies after long hours of play, then you can always listen to using the cables supplied along with the headphones. The best part is the Bluetooth 4.2 version (AptX and AAC codecs) which will reduce the connection loss and give the super speed premium audio experience even in wifi enabled noisy frequencies. 

The quality is really great and we have seen that Band and Olufsen always write L and R on the ear cups and the same is true with these headphones also. The leather earcups are extremely comfortable to wear even for long hours. The sound quality is superb and all the songs and video's I watched using these gave me a complete surround sound experience. These headphones are also designed by Jacob Wagner along with various other from the brand including H2, H3, H6, H8 and Beolab 19. 

These headphones have replaceable battery hidden in one side of the earcups and with cloth carry pouch these can be places in your bagpack to survive easily for several years giving you unlimited audio pleasure via its Electro-dynamic 40mm driver. The aluminium body adds to the matte look of the earphones and you can also use the Beoplay App to enhance the experience of using these headphones. I was not aware of the app in December and what it can do at that time so I am unable to comment more on the same. But overall these are the one Bang and Olufsen H7 headphones you can blindly buy if you have some R7000 to spend and you love to show off the type of audiophile you are and you won't be disappointed at all. I think I am jealous of these Bang and Olufsen headphones as I don't have so much of money to buy the same and the review units also stays for shorter period of two weeks. I hope in future I will have one of these if Universe grants me when I deserve to have one.

Cecilie Manz (1972) is a Danish industrial designer considered to be one of the leading Danish industrial designers of her generation. In September 2014, she won the Danish Crown Prince Couple’s Culture Award for her contribution to design. Her work includes furniture, jewellery, lamps and sculptures and her Mikado table has been included in MOMA’s design collection. I have fallen in love with the brand as I reviewed H7 earlier and H2 currently in headphones series but unable to find words to define the awesome audio experience these headphones produces.

A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Mar 2015 www.thelifesway.com

March 2015 was the time when the work started to build up in office and I needed to find time to work on my blog. I remember the time as I attended a lot of events and met a lot of new people. Also, I got in touch with my favourite brand HTC to review it's new phone HTC ONE M8 at that time. 

1. Product Review - HTC One #M8 #HTCTheOne - http://www.thelifesway.com/2015/03/product-review-htc-one-m8-htctheone.html - HTC has been with me since the first Google G1 android phone in 2010 and then subsequently I moved to Nexus One in 2011 and bought my own HTC ONE M7 in 2012 when it was launched and really loved the Beats Audio in the same along with Boom Speakers. Now I am using M8 and really loving the performance of the same. 

2. Product Review - @Kinivo BTE40 - Bluetooth Stereo Earphones - http://www.thelifesway.com/2015/03/product-review-kinivo-bte40-bluetooth.html - Bluetooth earphones are great accessory to your smartphones as it makes your life easier. I totally fell in love with Sony MW600 which I bought and reviewed it earlier but now I got this Kinivo one. Kinivo products are really cool and value for money. I have again fallen in love with this little bluetooth earphones. 

3. Product Review - HUAWEI Mobile WiFi E5220 - http://www.thelifesway.com/2015/03/product-review-huawei-mobile-wifi-e5220.html - Huawei has now progressed into making smartphones also but this little 3G wifi dongle has helped me to stay connected no matter where I am. With battery life of almost 3-4 hours, I have been able to tweet/instagram using the Telkom data connection I use on this gadget. I received a new upgraded version of the device at one of the launches of Huawei but need to start using the same. Till that time, this one is working perfectly well other than sometimes it hangs and then you have to hard reboot the same. 

4. @TheCapital_SA - 20 West - Stay Contemporary! - http://www.thelifesway.com/2015/03/thecapitalsa-20-west-stay-contemporary.html - I attended the media launch of Capital 20 West and totally loved the property. It's really a cool place to hang out which is just next to Graystone Drive and near Sandton City. Check it out sometime. 

5. #AvengersJozi - SA Fashion Week & MARVEL Designs - http://www.thelifesway.com/2015/03/avengersjozi-sa-fashion-week-marvel.html - Disney Africa showcased it's clothing at the SA Fashion Week. The designs were as fabulous as Disney's cartoon characters and it has a lot to offer. Check it out.

Google Cast Now On #BeoPlay Speakers @BangOlufsenSA

B&O PLAY has announced a partnership with Google to bring Google CastTM to B&O PLAY’s in-market and future range of network speakers. All network speakers will have Google Cast built-in and will be available at the end of Q1 2016.

Google Cast lets you enjoy music streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn on your network speakers. You simply tap the Cast button on your favorite mobile music app to start playing music from your B&O PLAY network speakers.

With Google Cast, you can enjoy music directly from the cloud instead of playing music from your device, which gives premium audio quality and ensures that incoming calls or texts do not disrupt the music listening experience. The two in-market network speakers from B&O PLAY, the BeoPlay A6 and the second-generation BeoPlay A9, are already compatible with the Google Cast technology. Google Cast will be available via a software update at the end of Q1 2016. Besides Google Cast, B&O PLAY’s network speakers support Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth, making it possible to choose between various streaming technologies.
