#Johannesburg Movie Lovers having Gala Time @Sterkinekor Eastgate

Movie lovers are having their wishes fulfilled as the new, state-of-the-art Ster-Kinekor cinema complex at Eastgate has opened its doors. The complex, now situated on the roof level of the shopping centre, houses an IMAX® theatre, two luxurious Cine Prestige 3D cinemas and seven Ster-Kinekor cinemas, two of which are 3D-ready.

Two lounge areas, one exclusively for SK Club members – the SK Club Lounge, offers customers the perfect place to relax with family and friends, both before and after the movie, while exciting new catering offerings, including a range of Pizza Hut pizzas, will satisfy any movie-watching hunger pangs.

Ster-Kinekor has a host of special treats and innovations in store for movie lovers at Eastgate.

Cine Prestige luxury…

These include the two ultra-luxurious Cine Prestige cinemas. Cine Prestige is the ‘business-class’ of cinema, and epitomises film-viewing heaven and pure luxury rolled into one. The two 39-seater Cine Prestige cinemas share an exclusive VIP Lounge area where both tickets and catering can be purchased. Here, customers can order a selection of delicious gourmet platters, coffees, desserts and cakes, the mandatory soft drink and popcorn and, as a new addition, a selection of Fairview wines and craft beers (only served to patrons aged 18 years and older). Customers can also pre-order any of these items to be served to them by the Cine Prestige waiters at their seats inside the cinema.

The large, red leather seats inside the cinemas are fully-reclinable at the touch of a button, and ooze lavish comfort. Each chair has a snack tray for the platters and refreshments, and also includes another Ster-Kinekor first: a refrigerated cup-holder.

SK Club Lounge

If you are a member of Ster-Kinekor’s loyalty programme, SK Club, you have the use of your very own exclusive lounge area – the SK Club Lounge. Here, members can relax and enjoy a range of delicious snacks and drinks from a dedicated catering counter. Here they can order a selection of imported Austrian coffees, desserts, delicious slices of cake to a range of Pizza Hut pizzas including a new Choc Dessert pizza, and frozen yoghurt. For the over-18s, select wines from Fairview Estate and a selection of craft beers can be enjoyed, both before and after the movie.

Catering self-service style

At the self-service catering terminals, customers can order their snacks and combos, and make a payment, before proceeding to the catering counter to collect their order. The introduction of this technology puts the power of choice in the hands of our customers. The self-service terminals provide our customers with a seamless experience when buying movie tickets and snacks, before entering the cinema to sit back and enjoy the latest blockbuster on our big screens.

“An exciting new addition to the catering offering at Ster-Kinekor Eastgate is a range of pizzas from Pizza Hut. There is a choice of eight different toppings available in small and large sizes, including an exotic Choc Dessert pizza to add a sweet touch to your movie date!” comments Matandela.

An Inter-Galactic IMAXPERIENCE @SterKinekor #TheForceAwakensSA #StarWars

The wait is nearly over… with just a few days to go until the South African release of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX® 3D on 16 December 2015. The film releases at Ster-Kinekor cinemas countrywide – including its IMAX and Cine Prestige theatres – two days before its US release. This seventh installment in the Star Wars Saga promises to be an adventure of epic proportions as audiences travel back to a galaxy far, far away!

As Star Wars fever grips South Africa, Ster-Kinekor has announced that advance bookings to watch the film in its IMAX® 3D theatres have reached record levels. To date, more than 34 500 tickets have already been purchased to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Ster-Kinekor cinemas across South Africa.

Of these pre-sales, more than half the tickets – 18 300 (as at 09 December) – are bookings to watch the film in IMAX® 3D, which offers the most immersive cinematic experience in which to watch this latest film in the Star Wars Saga. Come 16 December, Ster-Kinekor estimates that pre-ticket sales across all its cinema offerings – IMAX® 3D, Cine Prestige 3D and in 2D and 3D at all other Ster-Kinekor cinemas – could reach record-breaking levels.

This figure also represents the most advance bookings of any IMAX title for Ster-Kinekor, which is quite an achievement, considering that this number of tickets is spread across only six screens: the IMAX theatres at Gateway in Durban, The Grove in Pretoria, Cape Gate in Cape Town, Baywest Mall in Port Elizabeth, Cradlestone Mall in Krugersdorp, and the new IMAX Theatre at Eastgate in Johannesburg.

Star Wars fans of all ages who have followed the saga will now be able to return to that galaxy far, far away, meet new heroes and villains, and welcome back some old friends in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Set 30 years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, cinema-goers will be able to delve into the events that transpired after the Rebel Alliance triumphed over the evil Galactic Empire over the forest moon of Endor.

A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Jun 2014

Hi Guys,

June 2014 was the time when I got into Ster Kinekor's media previews list and started blogging about the movies that I started watching with them. It was a great opportunity and I got myself fully involved in the same. Also, this was the month when I revived my blog for several opportunities in South Africa and started to focus on building a name for myself.

This post is special as it was for Samsung's first community blogger challenge which they launched with a great idea. I won this contest and got a Wild Card entry into the finals. I also received this amazing Samsung NX300 mirrorless Smart Camera. The camera is awesome as it takes very great low light photographs as well as great portraits.

This was the first event I attended in Johannesburg and really met some cool people at the launch. I received my first gift of Cine Prestige Diary & a Pen. I still have the same and really love attending Ster Kinekor events from time to time.

Ster Kinekor - Cine Prestige @ Sandton City, Johannesburg

Ster Kinekor cinemas requires no introduction in South Africa and when they launched their fifth Cine Prestige in Sandton City, I was lucky enough to be invited for the launch event as well as to see the latest movie Edge of Tomorrow in 3D on the luxurious leather seats with great catering services. It was red carpet show with a lot of who's who of Jozi welcomed to attend the launch event. I met some of the great people there. At the end of the event, I received an awesome Cine Prestige Diary and Pen with stylus which I always wanted to have. Thanks a lot. Here is a snapshot of the media release - 

Movie-lovers have enjoyed the eleven state-of-the-art Ster-Kinekor cinemas on offer at Sandton City for over 40 years, resulting in it being one of the group’s busiest sites. The best thing I loved about the #CinePrestige seats is the refrigerated glass chamber to keep your drink chilled throughout the movie which can be turned ON or OFF as per your convenience. The seats are comfortable and I would love to see one extra pillow to be supplied as when in full reclining position your neck is not in a perfect angle to see the screen. Also, if they can provide with a small blanket also so that we can have a comfortable experience and doze off if the movie is not good enough. I agree it will increase a lot of investment and a lot of hygiene stuff into the equation but that's my wishlist. The popcorn, drinks etc is not included in the ticket price as compared to what happens in India's PVR Gold Class where you get a complimentary drink in the ticket price.

But overall the theater has a great aura of luxury as soon as you enter the lounge till the time you reach your seats. There is a place to keep your food on the side of your seat which is well lighted so that you can see what you are eating. Overall, it's a great experience and I can't wait to buy the tickets and reinvent my love for awesome movie experience.
