Dungeons and Dragons – Roleplaying At Its Finest @SolarpopGoPlay #DungeonsandDragons @Wizards_DnD

Hi Friends,

Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game that’s been around for close to fifty years. It has been enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike – perhaps because it relies on each player’s imagination as it draws people into a magnificent fantasy world with intriguing characters, adventures and storylines.

Philip Galliford, spokesperson for Solarpop says: “Dungeons and Dragons are where heroes battle monsters, find treasures and overcome quests. All you need is a group of people, a starter kit and your imagination. It’s a game that can be played as a family, amongst friends and even amongst strangers.”

“The beauty is that the storylines are infinite, immersing the players into a wonderful fantasy world that can last for hours and can be played over a number of days, weeks even. It’s a great way to socialize and use your imagination. The additions to the game ensure that playing is always fresh and exciting. There is no lack of novelty in Dungeons and Dragons!”
Dungeons and Dragons – Roleplaying At Its Finest @SolarpopGoPlay #DungeonsandDragons @Wizards_DnD
For those unfamiliar with the game, it was inspired by miniature wargames with their small soldiers, military formations and military paraphernalia. Dungeons and Dragons, or D&D as it is also called, drew upon the concept and turned it into a fantasy game, to the point that it is widely recognised as the beginning of modern role-playing games and the role-playing games industry.

D&D is different from traditional wargaming as it allows each player to create their own character instead of using a military formation. These characters go on imaginary adventures within an exciting fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master, or DM, acts as the game referee and storyteller whilst managing the setting in which the adventure unfolds. The better the DM, the better the game.

The characters interact with the inhabitants and each other to solve problems, engage in battle, go exploring and collect treasure and knowledge. In order to rise in levels, the characters earn experience points as they play. A large part of the enjoyment of playing D&D, apart from the fun social aspect, is that players build a universe and storyline that can extend over many sessions.
Dungeons and Dragons – Roleplaying At Its Finest @SolarpopGoPlay #DungeonsandDragons @Wizards_DnD
South African fantasy author and influencer, Enricoh Alfonzo, has been playing D&D since high school and continues to be a huge fan of the D&D universe and products. “D&D is the highest of fantasy experiences out there and I love it. The imaginative plotlines and character arcs you can create are endless and so much fun. I’ve been to gaming sessions where people come dressed as their characters, which adds to the fantasy experience. If you want to start playing, think about who you would like to invite and get an Essentials Kit,” he says.

D&D Essentials Kit is all you need to get started – it’s a great introduction to the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Distributed in South Africa by Solarpop and available from these retailers:
The Search is on for new Dungeon Masters
This year we’re looking to assist players to become the best Dungeon Master they can be. The better the DM, the better the storyline, the adventures and the experience of the game. Through a series of events in various parts of the country, Solarpop will be training new DMs who will then be the storytellers and guides to their gaming groups.

“We’re very excited to see players grow as DMs, seeing their imaginations take flight and storytelling abilities to grow,” says Philip Galliford, spokesperson for Solarpop.

Fun Facts about Dungeons & Dragons
Despite the competition from other brands and games, D&D has remained the market leader in the role-playing game industry

In 2004, D&D was the best-known role-playing game in the United States, with an estimated 20 million people have played the game and more than US$1 billion in book and equipment sales worldwide

In 2017, the game had the greatest number of players in its history—12 million to 15 million in North America alone.

A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Mar 2021 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay

Hi Friends,

March 2021 was the time and moment I have been praying for as my deputation again started from 2-Mar-21 onwards after a gap of 10 months or so. The total salary that I drew from offshore was less than the rent I paid here in Johannesburg for the house and amenities every month so I was on my savings for the 10 months or so. It really gave me a perspective that you need to upgrade yourself to better organisations as and when someone offers your hike and promotions rather than keeping yourself in the same comfort zone of one organisation. I have lived 15 years in a single organisation and they are going to reward me using an R2000 voucher once I complete them in Jun-22. That's way less than the prizes of R5000 radio channels and Twitter handles of various banks are given to random people every week.

1. @NescafeRicoffy Shares Pride and Respect in Every Sip #NescafeRicoffy #NESCAFERICOFFYRESPONSIBLYSOURCED - - https://www.thelifesway.com/2021/03/nescafericoffy-shares-pride-and-respect.html - I received this invite for the first time from Nescafe and attended the session too. I won an R2000 gift voucher from Sandton City along with multiple packs of Nescafe Ricoffy from them which are still going on at my home as well as the kid's nanny's house. I used the voucher to buy Polo South Africa clothes during the black Friday sale and some were spent on Lindt chocolates which I distributed to the PR companies of several brands and other individuals who invited me to their food events from time to time. Later in the year, I had the chance to meet Catherine Constantinides at Acrobranch in Melrose who was the MC at this event of Nescafe.

2. Movies @MontecasinoZA Brings Back the Magic of the Big Screen #MonteMovies #ZamundaRoyalsZA - https://www.thelifesway.com/2021/03/movies-montecasinoza-brings-back-magic.html - I received this unusual event to attend the movies at Montecasino where there was a movie for kids as well as one for adults. I was part of both the events and somehow I won in both the lucky draw contests to receive myself Coca Cola goodies, as well as Tomato Watches which I later gifted to my relatives. I really like watching movies at the theatre as compared to watching them on streaming platforms.

3. UNO® Celebrates 50 Years of Bringing People Together #UNO50 #UNO50SA @Mattel - https://www.thelifesway.com/2021/03/uno-celebrates-50-years-of-bringing.html - Mattel South Africa sent their UNO gift package on the occasion of their completion of 50 Years and this gift is such a unique one. I have kept the same in the package to date and only checked it again as I wanted to get some photos of the package. UNO is one of the games I learned and then beat all the players not once but twice in a friendly game in London.

March 2022 is already is a great month as I am getting some new opportunities to look forward to. I am able to complete the 20 kilometres I planned for every week and am on my way to reaching 1000 kilometres by the end of the year. I am also on the way to complete my 42 Years of Hanuman Chalisa prayers by the time I wanted them to be over. I also bought a lot of stuff that I always wanted to buy and now don't have to look towards any trade exchanges rather they have to pay me if they want me to do anything on my social media channels.

Simple Travel Tips to Make Roadtrips More Fun @Hasbro #GrabAndGo #Games

Hi Friends,

With all the long weekend passed, you must have realized that traveling with kids can often be challenging. Think limited packing space, long hours in the car, queues at airports, impatient children and holiday traffic. To ensure a happy ‘crew’- Hasbro, one of the world’s largest toy, game and entertainment experience companies, has a few tips to offer weary would-be travelers:

Pack light on non-essential items. Whatever the occasion, once you leave the house there’s no reason to weigh yourself down with heavy bags. Keep a ziplock bag filled with wipes and a basic change of clothes handy for any accidental spills along the way and consider travel-sized toiletries to save space.

Snack Time - stock up on a variety of healthier, on the go snacks like fresh vegetable sticks, dried fruit, mixed nuts, homemade popcorn and biltong to keep energy levels high (without all the processed sugar). Don’t forget the importance of hydration so keep bottles of water handy at all times. A packed easy-to-get-to lunch can also help keep the costs down and provide a nice picnic break along the journey. Consider simple finger foods such as chicken drumsticks, vegetable skewers, and pre-cut sandwiches/ rolls.

Board games provide great entertainment for the whole family. The portable Grab & Go selection from Hasbro Gaming is ideal for convenient, on-the-go fun and includes classics such as Monopoly, Clue, Battleship, Connect 4 and Guess Who? and the latest addition to the range Hungry Hippo.

Theme your trip with the game chosen to add excitement to the destination ahead. If you are heading to the bush give Hungry Hippo a go or if you are seaside bound Battleship it is.

The easy to store, affordable Grab & Go selection allows you to keep a range of games on-hand with options suited to the whole family. If you’re hunkering down at home for the long weekend, this provides a great opportunity to enjoy some fun family time with activities everyone can participate in.

Car Karaoke is a great way to keep the troops engaged, and immerse them in the music you love. Create a playlist before leaving home with options the whole family will enjoy and encourage all to join in a sing-a-long during the trip.

Countdowns help pass the time and a countdown to your destination is a fun way to keep everyone involved. Use visual aids that the kids can decorate in order to mark off time, keep them occupied and get them excited about the destination.

Simple Travel Tips to Make Roadtrips More Fun @Hasbro #GrabAndGo #Games

Get to Know the Grab & Go range:

  • Battleship Grab & Go is the classic game of naval combat that brings together competition, strategy, and excitement. In head-to-head battle, players search for the enemy's fleet of ships and destroy them one by one. No ship is safe in this game of stealth and suspense.
  • In Connect 4 Grab & Go challenge a friend to rule the grid and be the first player to get four of your color counters in a row. The game where strategy drives the competition - line ‘em up and go for the win.
  • There’s a mystery that needs solving, and you’re just the detective to do it on the go with this Grab & Go version of the classic Clue game. Who killed the host of the fancy party? Where were they, and what weapon did they use? When the case is solved, you can store all the cards and parts in the all-in-one game unit – until the next mystery.
  • Get ready for classic Monopoly play in a portable way. This mobile Monopoly Grab & Go game lets you trade your way to success while you roll with whatever comes your way from the Chance and Community Chest cards. It’s the perfect, compact way to have Monopoly fun anytime, anywhere!
  • Chomp, chomp – you’ve got some hungry hippos on your hands. This Grab & Go version of the classic Hungry Hippos game has two chomping hippos and a whole bunch of marbles for munching. With a plastic cover to keep the marbles from rolling out, this compact game lets you have hippo-feeding fun anytime, anywhere.
  • Who’s the champion guesser? Maybe it’s you in this Guess Who? Grab & Go version. Every time you ask your opponent a yes or no question, the answer gets you closer to who’s on their Mystery Card. But you better watch out, because they’ll be asking you questions too.
The Grab & Go range from Hasbro Gaming is available from Toys R Us, ToyZone, Toy Kingdom, Hamleys, Lilliputs, Takealot.com and other major retailers. Visit www.hasbro.co.za or Facebook

Celebrating World Monopoly Day #19March @Hasbro #MonopolyTokenMadness

Hi Friends,

In celebrating World Monopoly Day on 19 March (yes it’s a thing!) – I thought I will share 10 fun facts about the world’s favorite family game brand, which has over a thousand variations and is enjoyed by more than 1 billion players in 114 countries across the globe.

1. Charles Darrow developed the MONOPOLY game in 1933, using small items from around the home, including pennies or buttons, to allow players to track their journey around the game board.

2. Darrow’s young niece had a better idea and suggested using charms, like the ones on her bracelet, to serve as the iconic tokens fans know and love today.

3. The original tokens represented familiar items from 1930s America, including an iron, purse, lantern, race car, thimble, shoe, top hat, battleship, cannon, and rocking horse.

4. Mr. Monopoly was only introduced into the game in 1936

5. In 1943, when faced with a metal shortage during World War II, wooden tokens were substituted until 1945, when the metal tokens were brought back into the game.
Celebrating World Monopoly Day #19March @Hasbro #MonopolyTokenMadness
6. The sack of money token was added in 1999 but retired less than a decade later.

7. In 2008 Mr. Monopoly began wearing an M-shaped silver metallic bowtie.

8. 2013 saw Mr. Monopoly ranked #12 on the Forbes Fictional 15 list of wealthiest characters, with a net worth of $1.2 Billion.

9. In 2015 Mr. Monopoly celebrated his 80th birthday by ringing the closing bell at the NASDAQ.

10. Last year Hasbro held a historic vote allowing fans to pick the eight tokens that would feature going forward. Over 4.3 million fans voted to secure spots for the: Scottie Dog; T-Rex; Top Hat, Car, Rubber Ducky, Cat, Penguin and Battleship token on board!

Enjoy this World Monopoly Day by becoming part of the Monopoly community and buy, trade and sell-the Monopoly way! Make your own memories and celebrate the evolution of the iconic Monopoly tokens with the  Hasbro Monopoly Token Madness board game which is making its way to the nearest store near YOU!

Make Your Selection #Durbanites As #MONOPOLYDurban Edition Coming Soon

Hi Guys,

Durbanites are in for another memorable surprise! MONOPOLY, the original fast-dealing property trading game that everybody knows and loves, is coming to our shores and creating a localised Durban city edition.

Traditionally, anyone playing the legendary board game got to know the tourist attractions and highlights of London, with the UK edition being the most widely played outside of the UK. Locations were included, such as The Angel, an Islington feature, even though this address is not a street in London, but in fact a building (and the name of the road intersection it is located at).

Regional versions of the MONOPOLY game have been produced for the last 20 years, and to date, the game is licensed in 103 countries, with South Africa currently on this illustrious list for the National South African Board, as well as the Cape Town regional feature.

The BEST part about the MONOPOLY Durban version coming to our shores is the fact that Durbanites will be encouraged to be part of the selection process to choose which recognisable city hotspots will appear on the final board, to be on shelves around November 2017.

A dedicated MONOPOLY Durban Facebook page will be created that will be the home for voting, and where the final location choices will be announced. From Wednesday, the 10th of May, for two weeks, MONOPOLY enthusiasts are invited to nominate Durban properties via the MONOPOLY Durban page:https://www.facebook.com/MonopolyDBN/
Make Your Selection #Durbanites As #Monopoly DURBAN Edition Coming Soon
There will be localised ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, so feel free to submit Durban’s most popular phrases and words to be used for this purpose as well. Local brands are also encouraged to get involved and sponsor locations to have their properties featured on the board.

The MONOPOLY Durban announcement comes hot on the heels of the resounding success of the Cape Town regional version that was launched to local residents last year.

Robert Osborne, Sales Manager at Winning Moves, London, notes that “Over the past years we have witnessed the city of Durban establishing itself as one of the premier destinations of choice for entertainment and leisure in the country. Durban has also served as host to some of the most prestigious social events in the country as well.”

“Durban has long been one of the regions on our list of targets, and this year seems like the perfect year for us to create the MONOPOLY Durban regional version. We’re extremely excited to see how it’s received and have high hopes that Durban will be the second of many South African regional MONOPOLY games to be launched in upcoming years,” concludes Osborne.

Winning Moves, manufacturers of the official Durban version of MONOPOLY under license from Hasbro, says the game will be on shop shelves around November 2017.

MONOPOLY first hit shop shelves in 1935 – and since then has been played by more than 500 million people. Today it is played in 111 countries and enjoyed in 43 different languages.

Cheers!!!

Teachers Test their Chess Skills in Fun Tournament @MontecasinoZA #MovesForLife

Hi Guys,

In a fun and informal chess tournament to thank teachers for their valuable contribution to the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Chess programme, 85 teachers from five primary schools in the Diepsloot area pitted their skills against each other in a series of friendly games and quizzes at Montecasino, which sponsors the programme in the area.

Nationally, Tsogo Sun Moves for Life operates in 57 schools around the country, with 23 766 participating learners, 569 educators, and 22 tutors from the local communities. The programmes are sponsored by eight of Tsogo Sun’s casinos, which also sponsor annual chess tournaments for learners from the schools in their catchments areas, as well as separate chess tournaments for the teachers, to give them a well-earned break from teaching for a day.

The teachers are from Paradise Bend Primary, Muzomuhle Primary, Diepsloot 4 Primary, Reshomile Primary, and Musengavhadzimu Primary.
Says Shanda Paine, Tsogo Sun Group CSI Manager, “The aim of the Moves for Life chess programme is to use chess as an education tool that helps to improve maths, science, and problem-solving in learners – particularly in disadvantaged areas. We’re extremely aware that the strength of the programme is dependent on the dedication, enthusiasm, hard work that the teachers put in, as well as the sacrifices that they make to ensure the success of the programme. We’re indebted to them and this is one way we can treat them to a day of entertainment and fun at our participating casinos.” The tournament also serves as social year-end event for the teachers in the programme.

In the Teacher Tournaments different work stations are set up where the teachers compete in friendly games such as quizzes and board games that test their chess knowledge, as well as the classroom activities and integrated lessons that they have implemented during the year.
This is the second year that Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Teacher Tournaments have been hosted. “The teachers are very enthusiastic about these tournaments – and every year the numbers of participating teachers increases. Not only is it a day of fun, but they also say they enjoy networking with teacher colleagues from other schools, and the chance to pick up ideas and suggestions on how to improve their own lessons,” adds Paine.

As these are not formal tournaments, there is no overall winning teacher or school, but there are constant small prizes that are won at every work station during the course of the games.

“We’re delighted at the growth and success of the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life chess programme over the past few years and proud of the youngsters who are moving up to participate in major chess championships around the country, but we’re also thrilled that the programme is proving to be an effective tool that is equipping teachers to master maths concepts, which in turn is helping children to master the basic building blocks of maths in a fun and incidental way,” says Paine.

For more information go to www.montecasino.co.za, join on Facebook at www.facebook.com/montecasino or follow on Twitter at @MontecasinoZA.

#RummikubSA Infuses A Contemporary Twist To The Well-loved Board Game @PrimaToys

Hi Guys,

Rummikub has been around for decades and has become a firm board game favourite amongst children and adults alike.

The internationally renowned game was invented by a man named Ephraim Hertzano in the early 1930s. With help from his family, he hand-made the first sets in the backyard of his home. Hertzano sold these sets door-to-door and on a consignment basis to small shops. As the years passed the game grew in popularity with the result that the family licensed it to other countries. Then in 1977, something amazing happened that would ensure that Rummikub became a household name across many countries; it became a bestselling game in the United States.
#RummikubSA Infuses A Contemporary Twist To The Well-loved Board Game @PrimaToys
Since then Rummikub has enjoyed a number of variations, to ensure that it caters for all ages and that it is continuously infused with new and exciting rules and additions.

This year, the brand has launched Rummikub with Twist, adding a fresh and contemporary twist into the traditional game of Rummikub. New, brightly coloured tiles and a collection of jokers add excitement to the strategy and the fun. I really enjoyed playing the same for the first time at the launch. After the first game, my mind was processing a lot of ideas to play and win the same with the right combination of runs and numbers.

“The new Rummikub with a Twist is perfect for those who are avid players of the game as well as people who are new to it. It is ideal for ages seven and over and has no upper age limit. It’s a game that truly brings people together,” says Chiquita Patrizi, spokesperson for Prima Toys.

#SouthAfrica Get On Board with @Hasbro Monopoly Mzansi #VoteMonopolyMzansi

Hi Guys,

Every South African has that special spot in our beautiful country that captures the spirit of South Africa for them. Now Hasbro, one of the world’s largest toy, game and entertainment experience companies, is giving you the chance to get your favourite South African location, street attraction or destination on board and be part of Monopoly history - be it a beach, your chosen shopping mall or where you met the love of your life.

For the past 15 years numerous regional country versions of Monopoly have been produced and to date the game is licensed in 103 countries, with South Africa being the latest addition. Monopoly Mzansi, a localised South African edition, is set to be available in-store by the end of the year. What makes this edition exciting is that South Africans have the opportunity to take part in the location selection process and decide which recognisable locations they want to appear on the board by voting for their choice online or on mobile at www.monopolymzansi.co.za

www.monopolymzansi.co.za
“South Africans are known for their ‘gees’ and pride in their country. Which is why we are extremely excited about the upcoming launch of Monopoly Mzansi and encourage all South Africans to really make this version of Monopoly their own and vote. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get all the streets, places and tourist attractions that make up the essence of South Africa, from Vilakazi Street to The Big Hole, on board. Fans can explore the nominated Monopoly Mzansi locations online and then vote for their favourite. Share your vote so your friends get a say as well,” says Siphiwe Thabethe, country marketing manager for Hasbro South Africa

Capetonians love their mountain, and they should as it is one of the worlds new 7 wonders of nature, but this is an opportunity for Durbanites to cast their vote – do you want so see the Golden Mile on the board? Joburgers, is Nelson Mandela Square going to be the Monopoly Mzansi shopping destination of choice for all of SA? Show how much you love your city and vote to make sure that your favourite locations make it onto the final board!

Fans have an opportunity to vote once a day, but may return the following day to cast another vote, which does not necessarily have to be the same as the previous day’s vote. Fans also have the option to share their vote on Facebook and twitter with the #votemonopolymzansi to encourage more South Africans to vote. You can also keep track of your favorite locations standing on our interactive leader board on our web and mobisite.

“Today tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and South Africa is without a doubt one of the greatest destinations to visit. Therefore, supporting localised initiatives such as Monopoly Mzansi that showcase our rich culture and heritage, is the perfect way to drive tourism, not just internationally but also locally. Monopoly Mzansi is a great opportunity to build nation pride and to highlight that South Africa has countless tourist experiences to be discovered that we hope will encourage local tourism support, “says Margie Whitehouse, CMO of South African Tourism.

Voting will be open for exactly one month with the last day being the 31st of March. The final game will include 22 streets or places plus four transport hubs, so don’t miss your chance to help create something that will change the gaming scene in SA.
