Carol Ofori's Top Skin Care Tips for Radiant Winter Skin @CarolOfori

Hi Guys,

As the winter chill sets in, it's essential to adapt your skincare routine to keep your skin looking happy and vivacious. For those unsure of how to look after their skin during winter, TV and radio personality Carol Ofori shares her top tips for maintaining flawless skin during the harsh winter months.

1. Keep Hydrated
Staying hydrated is crucial for healthy skin, yet it can be challenging to drink enough water during the colder months. Despite the temptation to skip your water intake, remember that hydration is a must for maintaining your skin’s glow. Make a conscious effort to drink water regularly to ensure your skin stays supple and radiant.

2. Get Your Sleep In
Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Aim for nine hours of restful sleep to give your skin the extra love it needs during winter. Quality sleep allows your skin to repair and regenerate, helping you wake up with a refreshed and glowing complexion.

3. Get Rid Of Excess Skin
Exfoliating dead skin cells is essential, especially in winter when your skin can appear dull and lifeless. Consider visiting a skincare clinic like Skin Renewal for treatments such as chemical peels and micro-needling. These treatments reinvigorate the skin, giving it the boost it needs to stay vibrant and healthy during the harsh winter months.

4. Don’t Forget The Sunblock
A common mistake many make during winter is neglecting sunblock. Even though it's cold, the sun's UV rays remain potent, and the air is dryer, which can further damage your skin. Sunblock is a year-round necessity to protect your skin from harmful rays and prevent premature ageing.

5. Up The Moisturiser
Winter air is notoriously dry, so it's important to increase your use of moisturiser. If you usually use a dollop, add an extra one during the winter months to give your skin the support it needs. Incorporating serums and oils into your routine can also provide additional hydration, keeping your skin nourished and soft.

6. Wash Your Face Twice A Day
Maintaining clean skin is essential, especially during winter. Wash your face twice a day to remove dirt, makeup, and impurities. In the morning, start with a face wash followed by serum, eye cream, moisturiser, and sunblock. At night, use a face wash, retinol or night serum, and an evening cream to keep your skin supple and happy. Remember, never go to bed with makeup on to prevent clogged pores and breakouts.

By following these tips, you can ensure your skin remains healthy, hydrated, and radiant all winter long.

Up Your Winter Hydration Game With @VitaCocoZA Natural #CoconutWater

Hi Guys,

Most of us are pretty diligent about staying hydrated in the hot summer months especially when we exercise and enjoy fun in the sun. But did you know that getting dehydrated in winter can happen just as quickly as in warmer weather? And more often than not winter is the time we let our guard down when it comes to hydration, as our bodies’ thirst response is reduced, fooling it into thinking that it’s properly hydrated.

One delicious hydration solution that will see you through colder winter months is Vita Coco 100% Natural Coconut Water. Based on one single ingredient – fresh, natural coconut water from young, green coconuts - Vita Coco is bursting with naturally occurring potassium and essential electrolytes.

Staying hydrated with coconut water during winter has many health and beauty benefits and can contribute towards helping the following:

Lowering blood pressure
Lower weather temperatures can often lead to hypertension, due to blood vessels narrowing, but thanks to its electrolyte content, coconut water can help in regulating blood pressure.

Decrease colds and flu

By preserving your body’s precious fluid levels, you can assist in keeping infection at bay. Winter is synonymous with drier air, which can quickly rob your body of fluids, making you feel tired, weak and more susceptible to sickness. By regularly hydrating with coconut water, your body is better able to fend off these illnesses.

Skin care solved
Your skin often bears the brunt of winter with hash winds robbing it of protective lipids and indoor heating drying it out. By failing to stay hydrated, your skin will look tired and those tell-tale signs of dark circles under your eyes can often appear. So to help counteract this, up your fluid intake to improve and maintain your body’s circulation of nutrients and oxygen to give your skin an irresistible radiance. Coconut water is a great skin hydration solution, as it moisturises it from the inside out.

Keep the winter kilograms at bay

Your body needs ample fluids to break down fats and convert it to energy. Added to this, if you don’t drink enough fluids in winter, your body will quickly hold on to every drop, retaining fluids and making the numbers on the scale go up a notch. Thanks to its zero fat content, coconut water won’t wreck your diet and will also eliminate unnecessary cravings by making you feel fuller after drinking it. Also, because coconut water is an isotonic drink, it provides a great pick-me-up before, during or after exercise - spelling success for your winter workout. Don’t forget to keep hydrated even during those winter months!

Vita Coco is available in Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Spar stores nationwide, as well as independent retailers, lifestyle and fitness centres. It retails from R24.95 for the 330ml and R54.95 for the 1 Litre.

@SamsungSA Delivers #AirConditioning That’s Effective in #Summer and #Winter

Hi Guys,

Samsung Electronics South Africa has vast experience in the development of air conditioning and has long been committed to creating cooling solutions that are both powerful and convenient, thereby ensuring optimum comfort for users. However, what many consumers are unaware of is the fact that Samsung air conditioners are equally effective at warming up a room and they can perform more efficiently than the average heater.

Although South Africa is renowned for its long, warm summers, when the winter hits, the cold can really affect internal living spaces. The traditional method of dealing with the cold is to utilise a bar or fan heater, but these products tend to work best as personal heating appliances and are less effective when attempting to warm an entire room.

Michael McKechnie, Director of Digital Appliances Group at Samsung Electronics SA, points out that Samsung’s air conditioners may have a reputation for being cooling appliances, but they are just as good when it comes to heating a room.
Samsung Air Conditioners #TheLifesWay #PhotoYatra
“You simply cannot obtain the same amount of comfort or efficiency in heating from another source, as these appliances are designed to control the entire room’s temperature. Moreover, an air conditioner allows you to maintain your desired room temperature more effectively too,” says McKechnie.

“Consumers may be concerned that an air conditioner will use more power, but even this is not necessarily the case. Our products have a built in inverter that sets the appliance to idle once the room reaches optimal temperature, switching on again only if the temperature drops below this level. A heater, on the other hand, is likely to remain on throughout the day in order to keep a room warm, so it clearly draws a lot of electricity.”

He adds that another, intangible benefit of using an air conditioner for heat is that by more consistently controlling the temperature of the room, you are less likely to get ill from constant changes in temperature. In addition, Samsung’s premium products have ‘Virus Doctor’ built into them. This technology promotes clean air through a simple plasma ion, which is able to kill more than 99% of germs in the air.

One concern consumers may have is that purchasing an air conditioner is a much larger investment than buying a simple heater. McKechnie suggests that it should be remembered that such an appliance will be useful throughout the year, heating rooms in winter but will also be able to cool them in the long summer months.

“Furthermore, although for new customers an air conditioner may be more costly than a simple heater, Samsung distributors have a finance scheme in place that will allow individuals to buy an appliance at a set monthly rate that includes a warranty, as well as a maintenance plan. This means they can get a high quality product, capable of serving their needs for many seasons to come, at a reasonable price.”

“Ultimately, Samsung is committed to creating air conditioning solutions that are not only powerful and convenient, but that ensure optimum comfort in both winter and summer, all while delivering peak energy efficiency, which translates into lower electricity bills for consumers,” concludes McKechnie.

Cheers!!!

Why Are We Hungrier In #Winters? @KelloggsZA #KelloggsBFBD

Hi Guys,

As South Africa goes through its winter months, many are experiencing the hunger and food cravings that occur as the days turn colder. As temperatures fall, our appetite seems to spiral out of control - but why is it that we are hungrier in winter?

Studies have shown that as outdoor temperatures drop, the body temperature drops and that is what actually sets up a longing for foods that will warm you the quickest. Shivering triggers a self-preservation mode that sends our body a message to heat up fast. Although all food, including fruits and vegetables, will help create the extra heat we crave, for most it’s the traditional comfort foods that we turn to when it gets colder.1

"In winter we are likely to drink more hot beverages. If using more than a teaspoon of sugar, this could be problematic for weight management. Couple this with a biscuit or two and this can drastically increase your normal energy intake," says Kwa Zulu Natal-based registered dietician Kelly Francis.
While for some it is falling temperatures that sets appetites in motion, for others, it's the decrease in sunlight and an onset of Seasonal Affective Disorder (or SAD) - a type of depression caused by a decrease in light exposure. Predominantly, it occurs in winter but disappears as the days get longer in spring and summer. Those who suffer from SAD seek quick sources of serotonin, which come from carb-heavy meals.

“High fibre carbohydrate breakfast choices, with the addition of protein rich dairy provide sustained energy, naturally stabilizing blood glucose levels and the appetite,” Francis added.
Although our appetites have increased this winter, for many children in South Africa, hunger is a reality they face every day, every season. Today almost one in five children in South Africa goes to school without breakfast, which has a direct impact on their growth and development. Winter temperatures also further increase children’s ability to fight off illness, meaning more learners are sick and missing school in the winter months.2

Kellogg’s South Africa aims to combat this issue with its Breakfasts for Better Days™ initiative. The initiative is continuing to spread the importance message of staying healthy by providing children across the country with a balanced breakfast, giving them the vital fuel they need to learn effectively.

Since the programme’s launch in 2014, over 13 million breakfasts have been served up, with 25 000 children getting a balanced breakfast every school day in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Eastern and Western Cape provinces. The breakfast offerings include Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Instant Porridge, which provides energy and warmth during the winter.
