A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Dec 2019 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay #PhotoYatra

Hi Friends,

December is the month closest to my heart as this is the anniversary month of my blog The Life's Way. I think I have poured all my energy into the same and building the brand in the last 8 years to whatever heights it has reached. The blog started with an idea to get into the Indiblogger community and participate in their blogging contests and now in 2020, Indiblogger has discontinued their establishment but I am still going strong into 2021 with more focus on Youtube Channel.

1. 7 Years of www.TheLifesWay.com #TheLifesWay #BlogAnniversary #7YearsofTheLifesWay #1890Post - https://www.thelifesway.com/2019/12/7-years-of-wwwthelifeswaycom.html - Last year I completed 7 years of The Life's Way and this year it will be my 8th anniversary. Last year I thought of focussing on video making on Youtube and IGtv and the same has been going on continuously in 2020. I have reached around 85 videos on The Life's Way Youtube Channel with more than 710+ subscribers and 3.2 Million Impressions along with 319k views to date.

2. @Vivomobile_SA Enters #SouthAfrica with Y11 & Y91C #VivaVivo #VivoSA #Smartphones - When Hawa Hyath joined the Vivo Mobiles as the Marketing Manager I was sure that I will get an invite sooner or later and soon I received one but this year she forgot to put my name into the list. I had to remind her that I am still in the country and got to review their latest 5G smartphone with Gimbal Camera system which I totally loved and it's called Vivo X50 Pro. The smartphone is too good that my wife said that she wants to buy the same whenever she travels to India in 2021 as the same is much cheaper there as compared to the price in South Africa.

3. @Starbucks_SA CEO Adrian Maizey Sees Opportunity for the Brand Locally #Starbucks - Last year I met Adrian Maizey and since then he has changed the PR company and a lot of Starbucks shops have been opened across the country but never got the chance to see him again this year. Looking forward to starting my coffee journey if it happens with Starbucks in 2021 as so far in my life, I have been a teetotaller and big fan of Taj Mahal Tea.

4. A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Dec 2018 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay #PhotoYatra - https://www.thelifesway.com/2019/12/a-memoir-this-month-last-year-dec-2018.html - December 2018 I didn't do any posts and also in 2019, the number of posts was too less as most of the time went into going to the office and then roaming around in the city and nearby places in Johannesburg, South Africa.

5. #TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 Gimbal @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay - I really loved the DJI products as I came across two or three of them which I reviewed in 2019 but this year I have not received any from the Core Group or their PR company. I really wanted to own one of the Gimbals but now I want to check out Ronin series as compared to the Osmo Mobile series of products. Let's see if The Life's Way youtube channel can fulfil this dream in 2021 or thereafter in 2022. Let's start the journey to awesomeness once again in video format.

Thanks to all the followers, readers and PR companies for taking me closer to the brands and also bringing them into my life from time to time. I am sometimes unable to meet the timelines set by the brands but soon I will follow a strict calendar schedule which I am working upon in December 2020 and 2021 thereafter. I sometimes think a lot before posting and accumulating my ideas and thoughts but now I have implemented a gathering notes policy so that the reviews come out as soon as possible as there is a subtle change in technology in the new products from the previous versions.

Also, this is the last post of December of this kind in 2020 and I am thinking of introducing some new features on my blog. I am getting some ideas which I am going to implement in video format or blog form I am not so sure but the future is video entertainment. Let's go!

Cheers!!!

DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview

Hi Friends,

I received this DJI Osmo Action camera for review for 2 weeks from DJI - Core Group and what a camera it is. I have never used any of the action cameras before and this was my first time ever with this category of cameras. It was during the time of Jacaranda bloom when I had this opportunity to test the capabilities of this action camera. The video is live on my youtube channel.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
DJI Osmo Action has a built-in battery that helps you to take videos on the go and directly competes with the famous GoPro range of products. I really loved the front screen which is really helpful in case you are doing some kind of vlogging and selfies. I took the Osmo Action for a cycle tour when I went to to the PWC Bike Park and did some cycling there along with my daughter. I also took the shots of the earthen Diya on the occasion of Diwali or during those days and the camera became too hot as it was kept almost at around 6-12 cms away from the same and it shot non-stop for around 6 minutes 45 seconds in low-light conditions.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
Let's check out the configuration DJI Global has been able to pack up in this 124 grams of technology. The front screen is 1.4 inches with 300 PPI and the back screen is 2.25 inches with 325 PPI. The camera sensor is 12 megapixels and the device is capable to take 4K videos at various frames per second and on the lower edge, it can take 720p videos with equal grace.  The device is also capable to take slow motions, timelapse and HDR videos. You can put a micro-SD card up to 256 GB for capturing all your stills and videos. The rechargeable battery is Lithium Polymer with 1300 mAh capacity which gets charged fully in around 90 minutes and can give output for around 2 hours easily if shooting in 1080p and 60 minutes if shooting in 4K video settings. DJI always gives plenty of More Packages which generally includes extra batteries and various kinds of attachments to make your experience worthwhile by spending some extra rands. The DJI Osmo Action is equipped with Bluetooth and Wifi technologies to make your content transfer easy. Also, the camera can go up to -11 degrees temperature and can go waterproof until the depth of 11 meters. It can take up to 8x slow-motion videos and also UHD quality images on the go.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
The things I fell in love with this device are

Rock-Steady stabilization - As you can see the videos from the cycle tour, I am just holding the camera in my hands without any gimbal or any kind of monopod as the attachments that came with the same, I was not at all aware how to use them. The device just came in a black box without any manuals and those attachments which don't have that screw thread mount generally found in the cameras underneath.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
Weight and Weather Proof - The device is so light to carry all day even in your jacket pockets and can be taken out to film whatever you want to showcase to the world. With just 125 grams of weight,  you can easily attach a monopod and can take this device around the world.

Dual Screens - As already told earlier that it will definitely put the focus on the photographer to be in the picture too and in all those family videos where you don't have to be on the other side of the camera. vLoggers will love to capture all their daily routines and adventure sports using this camera.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
I didn't like the low light performance of DJI Osmo Action as there was a lot of noise in the pictures as well as videos. This is not built for any kind of night action is what I felt but maybe there must be some settings or firmware updates that have come to tackle these situations too.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
But will you buy this DJI OSMO Action or go for GO PRO range of products?

DJI Osmo Action is priced at R6000 and GoPro Hero 7 Black is also retailing around R6500 in the same price range at takealot.com at the time of writing this post. The difference which I could see between the action camera is that DJI has a full-HD colored front display which is not there in Hero 7 as it has an LCD display which only shows battery life, memory capacity, and shooting mode. Hero 7 ha vertical shooting mode for Instagram stories which is totally missing in the DJI Osmo Action camera. Hero 7 also is linked to various social media channels and you can do live streaming using this device whereas there is no direct link on DJI Osmo Action for the same but DJI Mimo App does a lot of fun stuff and can share it if you connect your camera to your smartphone automatically. Hero 7 is waterproof till only 10 meters where DJI Osmo Action can go 1 meter more.
#TheLifesWayReviews - DJI Osmo Action #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal #ProductReview
So in the end, it just depends on your choice but I totally loved using the DJI Osmo Action portable camera and can take it on my various journeys if I ever want an adventure camera. I had to return this review unit after two weeks and in between those I was able to shoot various videos. Just checked the same is going for USD 279 (R 4550) including an extra charging kit (extra 2 batteries) till June 23, 2020, on the DJI website Summer Sale to be delivered to the USA. I hope it will make your life full of adventure while you UNLEASH YOUR OTHER SIDE!

How to Take #Cinematic #Timelapses at Night with #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal

Hi Friends,

Osmo Action was designed to shoot dynamic footage not only during the day but also at night.

The mesmerizing lights of city traffic can provide a new creative perspective to your footage. Read on to discover some simple tips to capture compelling night time footage with your Osmo Action.

Important Safety and Caution Disclaimer
The following steps and content have been created in a controlled environment under professional supervision. Exercise extreme safety and discretion when operating a vehicle. DJI is not responsible for any injury or damage sustained from using Osmo Action with a moving vehicle.

1. Attach Osmo Action to a Vehicle
To add a unique vantage point to your Timelapse, we recommend attaching Osmo Action to a vehicle while recording. You can use an Osmo Action Adhesive Mount and Camera Frame to do so.

2. Plan Your Route
The best conditions for shooting this type of Timelapse are straight routes with a lot of lights along the way. Additionally, it is best to avoid roads with too many traffic lights or busy traffic since long stops during recording will reduce the dynamic effect.
How to Take #Cinematic #Timelapses at Night with #OsmoAction @DJIGlobal
3. Select Timelapse
You can easily switch the shooting mode to Timelapse via Osmo Action’s back screen.
After that, adjust the shooting interval and duration.

4. Set the Shutter Speed
To create a beautiful effect of blurred lights, we suggest you slow the shutter speed to 2-3 seconds. If the image is too bright due to the slow shutter speed, you may want to use ND filters to help balance the brightness.

5. Start Recording
After you have completed the preparation, press the shutter button to start recording. After the recording is finished, Osmo Action will complete post-processing automatically.

Check out this tutorial to learn more about shooting Timelapse videos with Osmo Action.

Cheers!!!

#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 Gimbal @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay

Hi Friends,

DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is the latest smartphone gimbal from the house of DJI who are world leaders in making your videography experience take up a notch higher. Gimbal not only helps to stabilize your videos but also you can be part of your own selfies beyond your extended arm and can track your movements to make your vlogging a natural process. I bought DJI Osmo Mobile 2 and it was there without being opened for 2 months before I opened the same on my birthday this year on 22nd July and soon I found out that the new one is getting launched so I returned the Osmo Mobile 2 to wait for the Osmo Mobile 3. I got the chance to be part of the special invite to attend the review unit takeaway kind of launch event for 2 weeks. These are certain things that made me immediately fell in love with this gimbal. Let's check out one by one -
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
1. Portability - DJI Osmo Mobile 2 which I took to the Photo and Film Expo this year at Kyalami was difficult to carry even in your carry bag. The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is not only foldable but also weights less. This can be folded and you can just put it in your backpack or jeans back pocket for immediate retrieval. Also, a locking mechanism ensures that your gimbal is ready to be carried with ease. The Gimbal weights 405 grams and with the tripod that comes in combo package it will be around 450 grams and with smartphones on the top, it will be around 700 grams in total. If you buy the combo package, you will get a hard case to safeguard your gimbal against any shocks and breaks but it won't be able to hold the tripod inside the hard-shelled case.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
2. Switching Orientations - Portrait mode was introduced in DJI Osmo Mobile 2 but in Mobile 3 version, it can be done with a press of a button and your capturing world can be turned from landscape mode to portrait and vice versa. Even changing from rear camera to front camera is just some clicks of a single button and you are ready to start vlogging or taking selfies. Mounting a smartphone is made easy and you are ready to shoot videos in no time. Any smartphones having a maximum weight of 225 grams is good enough for the device.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
3. Charging the smartphone - Earlier it was difficult to charge your smartphone while in use on Mobile 2 as the smartphone charging socket was hidden in one of the two arms but with DJI Osmo Mobile 3, there is only a single arm leaving the phone sockets open for your consumption. You can easily attach your charging cable and withdraw power from the gimbal as it works as a power bank too. Also, the gimbal has a battery life of 15 hours as marked on the packaging and can be fully charged in around 2.5 hours. The Li-ion battery capacity is 2450 mAh which is enough to charge any smartphone.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
4. Gesture Controls and Active Tracking - Some of the new features introduced are Active tracking 3.0 where the new gimbal can track your movements and keep the smartphone rear camera looking towards you. The same is just activated in the settings and then touching the smartphone screen to focus on a person immediately and track him or her. Gesture control is a feature usually seen in a smartphone selfie camera where you show your palm or peace sign and picture countdown timer starts.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
5. Panoramic Rotation - The best part of DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is that it can be used without installing any app on your smartphone. Any smartphone can be installed on the arm of the gimbal and then you can scroll the smartphone camera from one end to another and also you can control the speed of rotation. Huawei also introduced a collaboration with Osmo Mobile 3 during its launch of the Mate 30 series smartphone. The panoramic rotation helps you take great video shots at the top of the mountains or at the beach and the applications are huge.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
6. DJI Mimo App -  A new smartphone application has been introduced for Mobile 3 gimbal where it enhances the capabilities of your videography with pre-installed programmed modes to shoot 10 seconds or more video in 13 fun templates. Story mode creates awesome cinematic videos ready to be shared on your social media channels online. This is the place where you will spend most of the time learning, editing and sharing.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
7. Next Level Photography and Videography - The new gimbal can take timelapse, hyper-lapse and motion lapse with ease and without making you sweat much. Also the slow-motion is so cinematic that you will fall in love with the same. Also with one touch, you can shoot various funky videos where the editing will be done by the Gimbal DJI Mimo App.
#TheLifesWayReviews - #OsmoMobile3 @DJIGlobal #7YearsofTheLifesWay
Overall this is something you should have if you are into smartphone videography or photography and wants to take it a notch higher. Also, the gimbal will introduce stabilization to your artificial image-stabilized smartphone camera and you will definitely see better results. I see it as a huge potential to make you an amateur YouTuber as with the combo package, you can install the gimbal on the active tracking version and start talking to the camera and a video will be ready to be shared in no time wherever you are in the whole world. Go check it out!

Cheers!!!

Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?

Hi Friends,

The all-new Mavic Mini is a transformative product for DJI and the entire drone industry. It is the most advanced drone of its size ever made, featuring many of DJI’s high-performance capabilities in a drone that weighs only 249 grams. Why did we work so hard to stuff as many features as we could into such a small package? It’s another example of DJI’s commitment to drone safety.

Regulators around the world have agreed that drones weighing less than 250 grams are virtually harmless. In a fall or a collision, a sub-250g drone is just not going to cause the same kind of damage as a heavier drone. Since they consider sub-250g drones to pose the lowest risks, they have made them subject to fewer restrictions or requirements than their heavier counterparts. The rules differ in each country, but in many places, a sub-250g drone may not require registration, and may also be eligible for more complex operations, such as flying over people.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
This sub-250g weight category was created in 2015 when the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) asked a committee of aviation and drone experts to quickly determine the minimum weight of a drone that recreational drone pilots should be required to register. With personal safety the main goal, the committee employed complex formulas involving kinetic energy and terminal velocity to recommend a weight category of 250 grams and above, which the FAA then adopted.

While the 250g limit was intended only as a threshold for registration, it was quickly adopted by other countries as the threshold for many drone regulatory expectations. Any weight below that was considered so light that it was unlikely to cause safety problems, and thus there was little reason to impose stronger regulations. DJI later took a more comprehensive look at the science behind the calculations and concluded that the 250g limit was very conservative. In a white paper released in 2017, DJI said drones up to 2.2 kilograms should be considered lowest-risk. However, the 250g limit has become the global regulatory standard for drones that pose a negligible safety risk.

With that in mind, DJI is now proud to be able to manufacture a drone that provides advanced functionality within that ultra-lightweight category, making the skies safer for everyone. Every time you fly with a Mavic Mini instead of a heavier drone, you’re flying safer than before – simply by using a lighter product.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
Even as we prioritize safety, we also recognize that compliance with rules, respectful social interactions, resolution of security threats, and pilot accountability all remain important for a drone of any size, particularly one that is as capable as Mavic Mini. This is why Mavic Mini includes our GEO 2.0 geofencing system, to help prevent inadvertent flight in locations that would raise serious safety or security concerns. In the United States, if you are already registered with the FAA as a recreational drone operator, your registration is valid for all the drones you own. We encourage you to mark your Mavic Mini using that same registration number, although it is not required.

Mavic Mini is also equipped with our AeroScope system for Remote Identification, which allows safety and security officials to detect, identify, and locate the drone and its pilot during flight. AeroScope is a system that is protecting airports, stadiums, high-security events, and other sensitive locations all over the world, and it demonstrates the power of Remote ID to resolve some of the biggest concerns about drones.

DJI supports regulatory efforts around the world to create mandatory Remote ID systems. As a supporter of, and collaborator in, the forthcoming rules and standards for remote identification, DJI also expects Mavic Mini to be compatible with official Remote ID requirements once they are implemented. In our work on the FAA’s Remote Identification and Tracking Aviation Rulemaking Committee in 2017, we vocally supported the conclusions of the Working Group of security, law enforcement, and air traffic control stakeholders about which drones should be included in Remote ID. That group recommended to the FAA that remote identification be required for drones that provide the types of advanced capabilities that raise substantial security concerns, such as long-distance flight capabilities and live video downlinks. Although the FAA’s forthcoming remote ID requirements have not yet been revealed, we continue to agree with this recommendation from 2017 that a capability-based threshold for Remote ID makes more sense than a threshold based only on a drone’s weight.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
When regulators said drones weighing under 250 grams are the safest, we took that as a challenge. DJI has always made safety our top priority, and we’re proud that Mavic Mini opens a new frontier for how a small yet powerful drone can do great things in the lowest-risk category. As you enjoy flying your Mavic Mini, always consult and comply with your applicable local rules, and remember that no matter how small your drone, when you fly it, you are an ambassador for drones of all sizes. You can learn more about DJI’s safety commitment at dji.com/flysafe. Fly safely, and have fun.

Cheers!!!

This mode allows you to take a timelapse while the camera is moving, introducing a stunning motion effect to your footage. Owing to its incredibly small size, I was able to safely position Osmo Pocket on a flat surface and started recording. After five minutes, my Osmo Pocket had effortlessly accomplished its first Motionlapse.

Ready for Anything
When you are on the prowl for exciting footage, the last thing you want to worry about is carrying around bulky camera equipment and accessories. To be on top of your game, you need to react quickly to whatever the situation presents. Osmo Pocket really comes into its own in these moments. The device turns on in seconds, shooting smooth footage whenever your moment arises.

ActiveTrack
Shooting clear, stable footage is often achieved when you use a large camera on a tripod. While this method is reliable, these types of static shots limit your freedom to move around and fully immerse your viewer. This is why I decided to get right in the thick of the action and use ActiveTrack to film from a more personal perspective.

I headed down to a local food market, where vendors were engaged in their early morning preparations. While the local butcher was busy with his daily activities, I enabled ActiveTrack by selecting him on my smartphone screen. In a matter of seconds, Osmo Pocket was able to track his every movement accurately. This feature gave me the complete freedom to film without disturbing others in their daily activities.

Capture Your Memories
Food photography is a huge passion of mine, and as a writer of a food blog, I would welcome any device that can capture the magic of my culinary adventures. With this in mind, I took Osmo Pocket right into the heart of the kitchen to see if it was up for the challenge.

In just a few seconds, I was able to capture pictures in stunning detail thanks to Osmo Pocket’s 1/2.3-inch sensor and 80° wide-angle lens. Having a device that shoots this easily makes traveling all the more fun!

Glorious Slow Motion
Osmo Pocket also features a Slow Motion mode, which is incredibly easy to select from the interactive menu. In just a few seconds, every tantalizing part of my dish was captured in glorious high-definition detail! Combining slow motion and stabilized footage provides a delicious slice of the action.

The World from Your Perspective
During the middle of the day, I decided to dust off my tennis rackets and hit the courts. Eager to immerse the viewer at this moment, I took Osmo Pocket with me to record my perspective. The FPV mode cleverly allowed the camera to follow my every movement, letting the viewer experience an uninterrupted flow of twists, turns, and all-round magic on the tennis court!

In the Spotlight of Your Adventure
Osmo Pocket also has an intelligent FaceTrack mode that enables the device to automatically track human faces, which makes taking vlogs and selfies incredibly easy! After rotating the camera around using the interactive touchscreen, FaceTrack automatically recognized my face and let me record instantly. This feature is incredibly responsive and it was able to keep my face in focus even as I rotated the device (and spun around in circles).

Breathtaking Panoramas
To capture your destination with breathtaking definition, Osmo Pocket can take a 180° and 3×3 Panorama. What surprised me most was how easy it is to obtain this kind of shot. After selecting the mode on Osmo Pocket’s interactive screen, I held the device out with one hand and the camera automatically rotated in different directions to capture the panorama.

Bring the Night Alive
Travel adventures extend far beyond the reach of daylight. Many film-worthy scenes and spontaneous moments come alive in the night. With this in mind, I set out to discover how Osmo Pocket performs in low-light conditions. The 3-axis mechanical stabilized gimbal eliminated any unwanted movement and kept the camera perfectly stable for great low-light footage.

Nothing Can Stop You
Developed with convenience and endurance in mind, Osmo Pocket has a battery life that supports a 140-minute video. I was able to take it everywhere with me during the day and obtain a variety of different shots. And thanks to its one-hour fast charge, I was able to boost the battery to a 90% charge! After a full day of filming, Osmo Pocket stood triumphant, having effortlessly surpassed all the challenges thrown it's way.

The Bottom Line
What impresses most about Osmo Pocket is how easy it is to take smooth professional-looking footage. The device is extremely portable and starts within a few seconds, which gave me the freedom to film spontaneous moments as they arose throughout my day. Whatever journey brought to the plate, Osmo Pocket handles the challenge with ease. For anyone looking for a portable device that effortlessly captures the beauty of life, DJI Osmo Pocket certainly delivers.

A new dawn for handheld stabilization is here.

@DJIGlobal Pioneers Fight Against #Malaria In #Africa With Spray #Drones

Hi Friends,

Drone manufacturer teams up with a malaria task force using the Agras MG-1S to contribute to malaria elimination

DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, and a team of entomologists in the field of malaria elimination are working together to develop a revolutionary technique to fight the disease. By combining the research team’s expertise and DJI’s drone technology, a new way to fight the potentially deadly disease has been created. For the first time, there is a real chance to make a breakthrough in malaria elimination with the help of spray drones.

DJI joined a team of entomologists in Zanzibar to conduct a pilot project using a modified DJI MG1-S Agras drone which sprayed mosquito-infested rice fields with a unique non-toxic and biodegradable silicone-based liquid (Aquatain AMF). The liquid was spread across stagnant water to create a very thin film that prevents pupae and larvae from breathing at the surface, causing them to drown and die.

“We are proud to be pioneers in this field along with scientific experts using our spray drones against malaria in Africa, and we have great hopes that this approach will significantly contribute towards defeating this fatal disease in affected regions around the world”, said Dr. Barbara Stelzner, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication at DJI Europe. “Reducing the cases of new malaria infections will not only put an end to all the suffering of people, but it will also contribute to generating larger harvests, and provide new economic perspectives in Africa.”

By flying drones that spray biological insecticides in rice fields, the team of experts aims to demonstrate that the mosquito population can be significantly reduced. They will sample the larvae and emerging mosquito population before, during and after spraying to determine the possible impact of this approach in large rice irrigation schemes that are found throughout Africa.

“This experience has been made possible thanks to a customized DJI Agras MG1-S spray drone, enabling the deployment of the Aquatain liquid over rice paddies”, said Dr. Bart Knols, the scientist behind the project, who dedicates his life to research and fighting malaria. “The use of spray drones proves to be essential in efficiently treating large rice fields because spraying by hand is very time consuming and using a helicopter is too expensive and simply not realistic.”

After the trial, the scientific team intends to publish the findings in a scientific journal and communicate further on the results.

“This pilot project is the first attempt to fight malaria with spray drones on such a large scale. If the results of these tests are as good as expected, this could give a tremendous boost for winning the fight against malaria,” said Professor Wolfgang Richard Mukabana from the University of Nairobi. The elimination of malaria in Zanzibar is the public health priority of the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Program (ZAMEP), which welcomed this innovative spray drone technology as a promising tool to eradicate the disease.

Thanks to the support of Tanzania Flying Labs, a local robotics organization and its branch located at the State University of Zanzibar, the project will contribute towards economic development by empowering local and regional drone pilots through flight training, data acquisition, and business planning.
