Enterprises Count on @VeritasTechLLC as #Cloud Adoption Accelerates

Hi Friends,

Veritas reports 4x year-over-year increase in data moving to lead public clouds to power backup and disaster recovery at scale

Enterprise customers are accelerating their cloud transformation initiatives, revealed Veritas Technologies, a worldwide leader in enterprise data protection and software-defined infrastructure. Over the past year alone, Veritas has seen a four-fold increase in the amount of data moving from on-premises environments to the two leading public clouds. This is in addition to a dramatic increase in the number of NetBackup™ workloads that have moved to the cloud in that same time frame.

The cloud as an enabler of modern digital business is a primary driver of this acceleration. As dependence on the cloud increases, it requires organizations to employ data management strategies that are robust, yet flexible enough to aid their transformation, while mitigating risks. This has become abundantly clear in a world of evolving data regulations, ransomware, and virtually zero tolerance for downtime.

The movement to the cloud accelerates
The results of the company’s latest Truth in Cloud Report—a recent survey commissioned by Veritas on the challenges of cloud data management, reiterate the industry’s shift toward the cloud. The research found 47 percent of respondents characterize their company’s current infrastructure state as an even split between the public cloud and the data center. However, more than 70 percent indicate their desired end-state is to run most or all of their applications on public cloud infrastructure.

Respondents are moving quickly to make this happen for non-production systems and dev/test environments, as well as mission-critical production systems. The increasingly distributed nature of IT systems is likely one major reason many companies are also increasing their investment in the technology used to protect and secure them.

Nearly 70 percent have allocated budget to purchase new solutions to address cloud data protection in the next 12 months, and a majority expect their budget for backup and recovery to increase substantially over the next three years. However, where respondents had responsibility for both on-premises and cloud-based workloads, almost half would rather do so with a single backup solution.
Enterprises Count on @VeritasTechLLC as #Cloud Adoption Accelerates
“Our customers are overwhelmingly choosing the cloud for new workloads and advanced deployments. Today, many organizations benefit from disaster recovery orchestration, cloud data protection, and hybrid on-premises and cloud environments,” said Deepak Mohan, executive vice president, enterprise data protection and compliance, Veritas. “Our integrated Enterprise Data Services Platform makes it easy to extend enterprise-grade protection from on-premises to the cloud and ensure data is always available, compliant, and secure.”

Cloud-based data availability and protection strategies
While organizations are choosing the cloud for a variety of deployments, three use cases demonstrate the most common cloud strategies being employed by Veritas customers today:

1. Cloud as a storage target – The first foray into cloud adoption for many companies is running applications on-premises while using the cloud for storage. To ensure its data is safely stored and protected, financial services company, Profuturo Group, implemented Veritas NetBackup Appliances for rapid recovery readiness and CloudCatalyst for optimized transfer of data to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud for long-term retention. This shift has helped accelerate data backup and recovery operations, while dramatically improving efficiency.

“Moving data storage to the cloud via NetBackup and CloudCatalyst has not only improved our data protection processes but also our ability to meet storage, data availability and compliance needs for our customers and government regulators,” said Mario Alberto Correa Fuentes, manager, production and changes, Profuturo Group.

2. Data protection in the cloud for cloud-based application workloads – As application workloads shift to the cloud, the need to protect cloud-based data increases. Many companies are deploying data protection in the cloud to address this need. Global environmental services firm, Veolia, decided to improve efficiencies and reduce costs by shifting all applications and data from on-premises data centers to AWS.

“Knowing that all our data is in a central location and that we can access it instantaneously, is a huge benefit of using NetBackup with AWS. A data restore that might take days in our on-premises environment can complete in seconds or minutes in AWS,” said Aurélien Durand, storage and backup engineer, Veolia.

3. Cloud as an on-demand data center for disaster recovery – While some organizations choose to migrate the entire data center infrastructure to the cloud, others want to use the cloud as an on-demand resource for fast recovery during a disaster—natural or manmade. When China International Marine Containers, Ltd. (CIMC), wanted to move its business-critical applications to the cloud, it adopted a solution from Veritas that replicates data between an on-premises appliance and AWS cloud storage. The solution satisfies disaster recovery concerns, while significantly improving the efficiency of data protection companywide.

“Veritas has the industry-leading technology and solid industry background knowledge, with a professional local team,” said Jinjie Pan, CIO of CIMC. “Veritas is becoming our most important partner for digital transformation strategy. Through the Veritas data management solution, we can meet business requirements and pave the way for our future innovation.”

@HuaweiZA Open Advertising ID #OAID Solution Assists #Advertisers to Deliver Personalised Ads #HDD2019ZA @HuaweiEntSAR

Hi Friends,

Over 20 million South Africans now use mobile devices. With the increase in the business and personal use of these smartphones, most advertisers are now using mobile advertising solutions as they have a comparatively wider reach. The popularity of mobile advertising solutions is anchored on the basis that they are very effective, as they can be personalized. This allows advertisers to reach people who are very likely to be interested in a product or service.

The Huawei Open Advertising ID (OAID) is a platform that supports advertising solutions that has tracking, monetization, security, personalization and advertising identifier benefits for advertisers and marketers alike. It has a key user privacy data protection feature that highlights the online security commitment by Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), whose Huawei Ads Kit features the OAID solution. In the era of big data, driven by mobile internet, user privacy protection has become a legal and moral priority.

What is Huawei OAID?
The OAID is a non-permanent device identifier that helps advertisers to identify unique users. OAID assists third-party advertising platforms in delivering personalized ads and third-party monitoring platforms for seamless ad conversions, as ads are directed to the right users. Below are some of the benefits of OAID for advertisers.

1. OAID enables advertisers to track user activity
In mobile applications, there are no cookies that track user activity to aid the provision of bespoke advertising. But in order for mobile advertisers to get insight into the user’s preferences for marketing purposes, they need user-resettable identifiers. With Huawei OAID, mobile advertisers are able to track user's activity in one application and create a better advertising experience for users by showing adverts relevant to them.

2. OAID allows marketers to conduct conversion attribution analysis
There are certain actions that users perform that indicate their intent to purchase advertised products or services, such as clicking on the price of an advertised product. This is called conversion attribution, as a purchase can be made after clicking, which means the purchase is attributable to the click action. Huawei OAID partners with the likes of Appsflyer and Adjust, which can provide advertisers with conversion attribution analysis. Attribution allows advertisers to determine which channels and messages had the greatest impact on the user’s decision to purchase a product.
@HuaweiZA Open Advertising ID #OAID Solution Assists #Advertisers to Deliver Personalised Ads #HDD2019ZA @HuaweiEntSAR
3. User data and privacy is protected
The protection of user information is central to OAID. In South Africa where cybercrime such as debit order fraud is rife, the data security feature is essential. Unlike the IMEI identification (the unique number assigned to every mobile phone), which is permanent, the OAID is generated as soon as the device is started. Users can reset the advertisement identifier in the device settings to generate a new OAID. This way, there will be no association between the device identifier and user information, making the device anonymous on the mobile internet. The OAID provides personalized advertisements for users while respecting their privacy and guarding their personal data. This feature protects advertisers from possible fines related to the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act of South Africa. Under the POPI Act, advertisers who process a lot of personal information risk hefty penalties if they compromise the information that they collect.

4. Ads are personalized
Advertising platforms can obtain the OAID and the Enable Ads Personalisation switch value through the open APIs of Huawei. Advertisers can use this feature to provide relevant adverts to users who are actually interested in the products or services, based on their activities.

5. OAID monetises apps on the advertising platform
By integrating the Ads Software Development Kit (SDK) of an advertising platform that supports OAID into developer apps, marketers can deliver personalized ads and convert traffic into revenue via Huawei mobile phones. In order to monetize their apps, advertisers or marketers need to integrate the OAID-enabled Ads SDK provided by the advertising platform and connect to the advertising platform in compliance with the required process. This feature has a positive impact on an advertiser’s bottom line.

6. OAID enables access to data analytics and insights
Data form the basis of advertisers’ marketing decisions and provide a better understanding of ad campaigns. For this reason, Huawei has forged partnerships with industry-leading mobile marketing analytics and attribution companies, such as AppsFlyer and Adjust, to jointly provide advertisers with useful data analytics and insights. Appsflyer and Adjust are some of the top 3rd party mobile analytics platforms and have more than 90% market share. This dynamic guarantees advertisers access to an omnipresent tracking platform.

Dr Wang Wei, General Manager of AppsFlyer in China, says, "As a world leader in mobile marketing analytics and attribution that accounts for more than 70% of the global market, AppsFlyer fully supports OAID-based monitoring and will ensure that customers can obtain the same accurate data and user experience with future ad purchase and placement. AppsFlyer will continue to focus on the openness and development of Huawei's HMS Core ecosystem in the future."

In the era of big data, driven by mobile internet usage, user privacy protection has become a priority for advertisers. The OAID solution addresses information security issues, ensures that users access relevant adverts and assures advertisers of monetization benefits for their efforts.

Mr. Likun Zhao, Vice President at Huawei Consumer Business Group, Middle East and Africa, concludes, “OAID not only effectively protects user privacy but also helps developers build a more open and compliant mobile Internet ecosystem. It will play a crucial role in promoting the healthy and rapid development of the mobile industry as a whole. In the future, more and more partners will support Huawei's OAID. Together, we can jointly build an HMS Core ecosystem for a better-connected, intelligent world.”

Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?

Hi Friends,

The all-new Mavic Mini is a transformative product for DJI and the entire drone industry. It is the most advanced drone of its size ever made, featuring many of DJI’s high-performance capabilities in a drone that weighs only 249 grams. Why did we work so hard to stuff as many features as we could into such a small package? It’s another example of DJI’s commitment to drone safety.

Regulators around the world have agreed that drones weighing less than 250 grams are virtually harmless. In a fall or a collision, a sub-250g drone is just not going to cause the same kind of damage as a heavier drone. Since they consider sub-250g drones to pose the lowest risks, they have made them subject to fewer restrictions or requirements than their heavier counterparts. The rules differ in each country, but in many places, a sub-250g drone may not require registration, and may also be eligible for more complex operations, such as flying over people.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
This sub-250g weight category was created in 2015 when the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) asked a committee of aviation and drone experts to quickly determine the minimum weight of a drone that recreational drone pilots should be required to register. With personal safety the main goal, the committee employed complex formulas involving kinetic energy and terminal velocity to recommend a weight category of 250 grams and above, which the FAA then adopted.

While the 250g limit was intended only as a threshold for registration, it was quickly adopted by other countries as the threshold for many drone regulatory expectations. Any weight below that was considered so light that it was unlikely to cause safety problems, and thus there was little reason to impose stronger regulations. DJI later took a more comprehensive look at the science behind the calculations and concluded that the 250g limit was very conservative. In a white paper released in 2017, DJI said drones up to 2.2 kilograms should be considered lowest-risk. However, the 250g limit has become the global regulatory standard for drones that pose a negligible safety risk.

With that in mind, DJI is now proud to be able to manufacture a drone that provides advanced functionality within that ultra-lightweight category, making the skies safer for everyone. Every time you fly with a Mavic Mini instead of a heavier drone, you’re flying safer than before – simply by using a lighter product.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
Even as we prioritize safety, we also recognize that compliance with rules, respectful social interactions, resolution of security threats, and pilot accountability all remain important for a drone of any size, particularly one that is as capable as Mavic Mini. This is why Mavic Mini includes our GEO 2.0 geofencing system, to help prevent inadvertent flight in locations that would raise serious safety or security concerns. In the United States, if you are already registered with the FAA as a recreational drone operator, your registration is valid for all the drones you own. We encourage you to mark your Mavic Mini using that same registration number, although it is not required.

Mavic Mini is also equipped with our AeroScope system for Remote Identification, which allows safety and security officials to detect, identify, and locate the drone and its pilot during flight. AeroScope is a system that is protecting airports, stadiums, high-security events, and other sensitive locations all over the world, and it demonstrates the power of Remote ID to resolve some of the biggest concerns about drones.

DJI supports regulatory efforts around the world to create mandatory Remote ID systems. As a supporter of, and collaborator in, the forthcoming rules and standards for remote identification, DJI also expects Mavic Mini to be compatible with official Remote ID requirements once they are implemented. In our work on the FAA’s Remote Identification and Tracking Aviation Rulemaking Committee in 2017, we vocally supported the conclusions of the Working Group of security, law enforcement, and air traffic control stakeholders about which drones should be included in Remote ID. That group recommended to the FAA that remote identification be required for drones that provide the types of advanced capabilities that raise substantial security concerns, such as long-distance flight capabilities and live video downlinks. Although the FAA’s forthcoming remote ID requirements have not yet been revealed, we continue to agree with this recommendation from 2017 that a capability-based threshold for Remote ID makes more sense than a threshold based only on a drone’s weight.
Introducing the #MavicMiniSA - Why Did @DJIglobal Create a 249-Gram #Drone?
When regulators said drones weighing under 250 grams are the safest, we took that as a challenge. DJI has always made safety our top priority, and we’re proud that Mavic Mini opens a new frontier for how a small yet powerful drone can do great things in the lowest-risk category. As you enjoy flying your Mavic Mini, always consult and comply with your applicable local rules, and remember that no matter how small your drone, when you fly it, you are an ambassador for drones of all sizes. You can learn more about DJI’s safety commitment at dji.com/flysafe. Fly safely, and have fun.
