Telkom Launched their own Music app in collaboration with Tencent named Telkom Music Powered by JOOX in South Africa for all the subscribers of Telkom Mobile Network at the monthly charge of R60 per month which includes Full access to all the songs available on the app. It's also one of the fewer data consuming songs/music apps in the market as per the comparisons done by the research team. According to data tests done by Software company Bitcube, Telkom Music Powered by JOOX consumes significantly less data than its competitors. The app consumed just 173MB to stream 100 high-quality songs, Apple Music consumed 1001MB, while Spotify consumed 1112MB and Deezer 564MB. So clearly you can see less than 200MB was consumed to download 100 songs which basically means 2MB per song. It really makes a great business case for the South African market where the data costs are still high. The app size is also very small almost 10MB to download from the Huawei App Gallery or the Google Play store as it currently supports only Android devices. I am grateful to Tencent for inviting me to the launch event and blessing me with these amazing goodies. I totally loved the event as it also marked Big Zulu's latest album named - Ichwane Lenyoka. Big Zulu to Release His Album #IchwaneLenyoka Exclusively on #TelkomMusic Powered by JOOX @BigZulu_ZN

South African rapper, songwriter and actor – Big Zulu will release 10 tracks from his forthcoming album exclusively on the newly-launched streaming music app, Telkom Music Powered by JOOX. This new body of work entitled ‘Ichwane Lenyoka’ by the isiZulu-speaking lyricist is expected to drop on Friday, 27 August 2021 and for some time, will only be available for download or streaming on the all-new, exciting music app hailed for data-saving.

Big Zulu, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene, explained: “I’m thrilled! I'm also taking two worlds and making them one.”

Telkom Music Powered by JOOX has been commended for its approach coming into the music-streaming market, placing data at the centre of its offering and eliminating limitations around access to it. The music app is proven to consume the least data of any DPS in the market when listening to music.

According to data tests done by Software company Bitcube, Telkom Music Powered by JOOX consumes significantly less data than its competitors. The app consumed just 173MB to stream 100 high-quality songs, Apple Music consumed 1001MB, while Spotify consumed 1112MB and Deezer 564MB.

The app also takes just 10MB of download space in any Android smartphone. Zulu says this is an important factor for him: “It’s the mass market my music appeals to. There's a huge part of my audience that doesn’t have the most sophisticated phones with memory and storage, for example, so this will be very helpful.”

The Bergville-born star says fans can expect thoughtful music from his forthcoming album, adding that there are songs that will be great for celebrations as well as incredible features: “I had to tap into my core. Although I've moved to Jo’burg I'm still primarily rooted in KZN. I had to take all those inspirations and bring them to life while still staying true to what one would call the Hip Hop art form,” he concluded.

“Look out for my artists on Nkabi Records and don’t touch the dial, Big Zulu is only getting started!”

Users will be able to listen to the album for free on Telkom Music Powered by JOOX when It drops on 27 August 2021, with limited features or get the all-access VIP package for just R59.99 per month.

@TelkomZA Reveals Its New Music Streaming App Powered by JOOX #TelkomMusic

Telkom Music Powered by JOOX is the newest addition to Telkom Mobile’s product offering. The leading telecommunications company in South Africa revealed its new music streaming platform, in partnership with Tencent-owned JOOX, available from the Huawei AppGallery and Google Play Store.

Telkom recognizes that the landscape of music streaming is changing and highlights that the stand-out feature of its music app is the fact that it focuses on data-saving and shared music experiences between users: “In true Telkom style, our mission is to leave no man behind and we are thrilled to introduce this offering. We’ve introduced a bouquet of products recently to cater to the content needs of our customers, including video-on-demand and gaming services; and this closes the loop neatly for us from a content viewpoint,” commented Wanda Mkhize – Telkom Executive Smarthome and Content.

“The future of music streaming will include shared, social experiences,” says Tencent Africa Services CEO Brett Loubser. “With lockdown changing the way we connect, Telkom Music Powered by JOOX will include ‘Mods’ focused on sharing one’s music experience.”

JOOX has worked with Telkom Mobile to launch Telkom Music Powered by JOOX. With an app size of just 10MB, the all-new, exciting music app is designed to save data usage and space on one’s smartphone. Telkom Music allows you to stream and download songs while using less data than any other music streaming app. Users are able to listen for free with limited features, while Telkom customers can subscribe to the all-access VIP package for just R59.99 per month.

“We are very excited to embark on this endeavour with Telkom Mobile,” Loubser adds. “The team at Telkom Mobile and at Tencent Africa have put a huge amount of effort into delivering the most accessible music streaming product possible. Our app size reduces the amount of memory used in a listener’s phone, and integration with Telkom’s app ecosystem makes it easy for millions of people to have millions of songs in their pocket.”

Powered by JOOX, music fans can expect the app to include a host of new features, including a button where users can turn on and off their data usage. In addition, Telkom Music Powered by JOOX will include a variety of other innovative features under the ‘Mods’ section of the app.

Feature ‘Music Guru’ tests your music knowledge against other users. The interactive feature plays a song clip for users to identify within a few seconds. The goal? To get the highest score against other users in various genres and categories.

The music app’s ‘Radio’ feature allows you to find new tracks to share. The feature offers a non-stop listening experience that enables users to discover new music, aligned with and relevant to music they love.

Music Together is better. And that’s why the ‘Flock’ feature allows users to create playlists together for their next big event - whether in person or virtual. With Flock, it doesn’t matter who has their phone connected to the aux.
