A Memoir - This Month Last Year - May 2018 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay

Hi Friends,

May 2018 saw the maximum number of blog posts for 2018 on The Life's Way with 61 in a single month which was last done in the month of April 2016 with 62 blog posts. But this year I am taking it slow and steady and not doing anything for anyone for free. If I am getting something from the brands, then only I am doing the posts else I will write my own blog posts on whatever topic I love to write on. I have been a fool to do all those posts for all the brands which will never call me to their launch events or send me anything on any of the occasions to keep and I am no longer interested in collecting stuff which I don't want like pen drives and cheap unbranded headphones.

1. Simple Travel Tips to Make Roadtrips More Fun @Hasbro #GrabAndGo #Games - http://www.thelifesway.com/2018/05/simple-travel-tips-to-make-roadtrips_2.html - Hasbro has been a consistent partner for The Life's Way as it continues to send their latest games for my daughter and she loved this Grab and Go series too. Hasbro sent Jail goodies (Monopoly Board Game) including a cheap metal handcuff which my daughter used to held my father's hands and it didn't open as easy as it should and she put it tightly which caused a lot of stress in the family.

2. Product Review - @XPG_Global EMIX I30 #WiredEarphones #Gaming Headset @AdataTechnology - http://www.thelifesway.com/2018/05/product-review-xpgglobal-emix-i30_23.html - Adata Technology launched their XPG EMIX I30 3D earphones and I got the opportunity to review and keep the same and I totally fell in love with the same. I am still using them when I want to hear something good and in my own zone. Thanks to the brand for the same.

I am really happy to share these blog posts with my readers on a monthly basis.

4. Movie Review - @Avengers: Infinity War #AvengersInfinityWar @SterKinekor @TheMallofAfrica #MARVEL - http://www.thelifesway.com/2018/05/movie-review-avengers-infinity-war.html - Avengers Infinity War is an amazing movie and it was the best first part of the movie and after watching the new Avengers: Endgame for 182 minutes, I feel that the first version really brought that curiosity and the eagerness to watch the second part. Russo brothers have been able to do that and break all the records with the second part. Go watch it if you have not!

Space: Not The Final Frontier @ADATATechnology #ExternalHardDrive

Hi Friends,

Space. It may once have been the final frontier, but now it’s the one thing that anyone with technology runs out of. The sheer volume of data generated every day is staggering with the average for 2017 working out to around 2.5 quintillion bytes daily. Research by Domo also revealed what takes place in one hot internet minute – users watch more than four million videos, Google spits out 3.6 million search results and Instagram gains nearly 50,000 new images. That’s in just one minute. While it’s unlikely that your system is about to gather up that much data in one lifetime, the challenge of space remains just that, challenging.

According to Tony Yu, South African country manager at ADATA, the need for space is only increasing, especially for people who spend their time working with huge files. And this number isn’t small or niche either.

“Whether you are gaming on a console or a laptop, looking for a way to secure critical data or simply trying to find places to squeeze in large files, storage space is often lacking,” he says. “This demand has ignited a marked trend towards the development of new and cost-effective storage solutions that can handle the weight of the data and meet the needs of the user.”

One of these solutions is the external hard drive (HDD). It’s the natural, comfortable cousin of the internal hard drive or solid state drive (SSD) that is locked in place by design. The external HDD fits in your pocket, go with you when you need it, can be stored safely and used to backup critical data all at the same time.
Space: Not The Final Frontier @ADATATechnology #ExternalHardDrive
The added edge of security is, of course, a bonus when you consider how easily systems are being compromised today. Although if you don’t leave your external HDD plugged in, that will only make it just as vulnerable as other systems connected to the net.

“In addition to security, the external HDD is accessible and easy to use – plug and play convenience on the move,” adds Yu. “Unlike cloud storage solutions, the external HDD doesn’t need the internet to connect you to your data, and there is such a wide variety of sizes and designs that they fit most lifestyles and budgets.”

It’s true that not all external HDD are created equal. Some are slim and simple, introducing an array of colours alongside various storage capacities and capabilities. Others are military grade and rugged, ready to be dipped and dusted and thrown into the road. Although nobody is entirely sure why you would want to do this, there are external HDDs that can handle it.

“The ADATA HD710 Pro and HD650 are dust and waterproof and have military grade shock resistance,” says Yu, “The new HD650 has the 4TB capacity which is a new milestone for unpowered USB external hard drives. Both can withstand being immersed in water for up to an hour and have been designed to handle a lot of wear and tear to prevent data corruption.”

For those who aren’t that into beating up their hard drives, there is the HV300 and the HD330 external hard drive range from ADATA. The HV300 is only 10.3mm thick, and the HV330 is both slim and tough with a silicone layer that protects it against accidents.

Regardless of personal taste in style, colour and durability, the one thing that all external hard drives bring is more space. It may not be the final frontier anymore, not when capacity is up to 4TB, but at least the challenge of finding more of it has been resolved in a handy, portable and lightweight device. The Ultimate #Gaming Experience, Right Now @ADATAtechnology #SSD #DRAM

Hi Friends,

It is said that there are two types of gamer in this world. The PC gamer and the console gamer. The former’s demise has long been predicted, but statistically, PC gaming is even more popular today than it was when it started. Steam game sales hit an astonishing $US4.3 billion in 2017, increasing by more than 18% from 2015, and PwC has predicted that gaming will be worth more than US$31 million by 2019. For those who love the creak of the keyboard and the strife of the mouse as they hurtle through virtual worlds at the speed of reflex and storyline, PC gaming is the ultimate immersive experience. But, like anything, there are ways to make it even better…

According to Tony Yu, South African country manager at ADATA, there are some subtle tips and tricks that can transform your gaming experience and give you that extra edge in the boss fight.

“The first step is to upgrade to a solid-state-drive (SSD),” he says. “These are so much faster than previous hard drives and have the potential to reduce loading times and improve performance significantly. Their capabilities are not to be confused with graphics performance, though. Your graphics processing unit (GPU) is your key to unlocking exceptional visuals so improving gaming graphics should start with you ensuring that it, and all your other hardware, are regularly updated. It’s also worth running regular PC diagnostics to ensure that both your SSD and GPU, among other essential elements, are working properly.”
The Ultimate Gaming Experience, Right Now @ADATAtechnology #SSD #DRAM
SSD may not introduce gorgeous graphics, but it does really deliver on loading times which, for those who play open world games and in vast online vistas, makes a big difference to the experience. Constant ‘hitching’ in a game is frustrating and an SSD is your secret weapon in defeating it. For additional online security, especially for people who enjoy playing online, a virtual private network (VPN) is another vital element to help you smooth over the edges of your experience.

“Some parts of the online gaming community have been known to attack players and force them offline, so by using a VPN you protect your identity and remove the threat,” says Yu.

The next step is to invest in memory designed specifically for gaming. As Rock, Paper, Shotgun says, ‘…what you absolutely, positively need and what will make your computing life, in general, more pleasant and your gaming, in particular, more enjoyable aren’t the same thing’. What you want is beautiful memory designed specifically for PC gaming that can handle the worlds and beasts thrown at it with elegant aplomb. That’s gaming.

“Discerning gamers with an eye for the perfect gaming experience should consider investing in technology that has hybrid cooling capabilities as this instantly improves performance and gain,” adds Yu. “High-quality chips and cooling systems designed to work optimally with leading GPUs and systems will make any game into something special. These are also excellent tools for anyone keen to move into eSports or play games on a more competitive level.”

Finally, to really round off the perfect game, you need the right mouse and keyboard. Your mouse must have incredibly high DPI, at least 3200, and a smooth ride with a comfortable grip, and it is advisable to invest into a mechanical keyboard as it offers superb tactical feedback and control. With most ranges designed for gamers, you can even adjust the lighting effects which is, let’s face it, cool.

“Of course, great gaming technology, such as the ADATA XPG Spectric D80 DDR4 RGB, not only has liquid nitrogen cooling but can be overclocked to take advantage of it,” concludes Yu. “It’s a world first RGB DDR4 memory with hybrid liquid-air cooling to deliver extraordinary performance and in May 2018 it reached the SPECTRIX D80 LN2 OC 5531 MHz record. We are committed to keep improving on our performance and we are proud that our DRAM is already compatible with at least four motherboard brands, namely Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock. We will continue adding other brands to this list.”

Key Considerations When Buying Your Next #PowerBank @ADATAtechnology #TravelIdeas

Hi Friends,

Power banks are very handy, particularly when you’re an avid traveler, but what are some of the key considerations you should keep in mind when purchasing one? ADATA country manager for South Africa, Tony Yu, advises that if you’re in the market for a new power bank to use while traveling by air, you must ensure that the safety aspects of your device are up to scratch.

“According to IATA rules, you are not allowed to travel with a power bank in your cargo luggage and are only permitted to travel with it in your carry-on luggage,” he says. “Even then, there are restrictions on the number of power banks you can carry as well as their power rating.”
Key Considerations When Buying Your Next #PowerBank @ADATAtechnology
The IATA rules state that power banks that contain lithium ion batteries must have a power rating of less than 100 Wh to be carried onto an aircraft. Should that power rating be exceeded, special permission must be obtained from the airline operator to carry it on board and even then, it may not exceed 160 Wh.

Yu says that other key considerations should include a thorough review of the brand and built-in safety specifications. “The first question you should ask yourself is whether the power bank you are considering purchasing has circuit protection,” he says. “Multiple circuit protection will protect the power bank from overcharging or discharging, making it much safer to use. ADATAs power banks have additional protection measures in place to prevent overcurrent, -heating, -Voltage and short-circuiting as well.”
Key Considerations When Buying Your Next #PowerBank @ADATAtechnology
“You must also ensure that you purchase a power bank from a reputable brand, that designs and tests their products to ensure they comply with international safety standards. The circuit design is also crucial, and it is even better when fire-resistant casings are used,” says Yu.

“Depending on the type of activities you engage in, you might also want to consider whether the power bank is dust and waterproof and is resistant to shocks and drops. This is particularly important for people with an active, outdoors lifestyle that require a sturdier power bank to charge their devices while on the move,” he says.

I hope you will make the right decision and check out the Wh values before buying your next Power Bank to keep your little devices charged all the time.

Warning Signs That It Is Time to Replace Your #SSD @AdataTechnology @XPG_Global

Hi Friends,

While solid state drives (SSD) are more stable than hard drives, age can eventually cause them to fail. It is therefore important to know what signs to keep an eye out for, which could signal an impending failure. According to Tony Yu, South African country manager at ADATA, while there are tools available to monitor your SSD for flaws, there are some very specific signs you can look out for.

“While the technology in SSDs has evolved over the years, making them even more stable and reliable, there are instances where they can fail. When a computer attempts to read or save a file, but it takes unusually long, the system will eventually abandon the task and give an error message. These are known as bad blocks and can result in you not being able to read from or write files to the SSD,” he says. Other symptoms of bad blocks include needing to repair your PC or file system, and the freezing and crashing of active applications. “If you are getting frequent errors when moving files or your system is running slow, particularly when you access large files, you should consider running a diagnostic tool to determine whether there are any physical problems with your drive. I would also advise you to back up your files immediately to avoid data loss.”

Yu says there are two ways in which bad blocks can affect your files. “If your system refuses to write data to the drive, I would recommend that you try and save the files to another location, or copy it to the cloud, restart your computer and try saving them to the drive again. Fortunately, in this case, the data has not been compromised as it was not written to the drive in the first place,” he says. “Unfortunately, if your system refuses to read the data, you have a much bigger problem, because often, that data is lost for good.”
Warning Signs That It Is Time to Replace Your SSD @AdataTechnology @XPG_Global #SolidStateDrives
An error popping up stating that your PC needs to be repaired can be a sign of your SSD developing bad blocks. “While this error sometimes pops up purely because the computer was not shut down properly, it can mean that you have issues with your SSD. Fortunately, most operating systems come with built-in repair tools that will guide you through the steps of repairing the file system,” says Yu. “There is the possibility of losing some data in the process though, which is why we recommend that you back up your data on a regular basis.”

Another symptom that your SSD is on its way out, is when your computer crashes during the boot process, but works fine after hitting the reset button multiple times. “If you are experiencing this, I would suggest that you immediately back up your data, because this is usually caused by a bad block or an impending SSD failure,” he says. “Again, it’s best to use a diagnostic tool to test whether it is the drive and, if you have backed up your data, consider reformatting your drive and reinstalling the operating system.”

In the event of the drive becoming read-only, data can still be recovered. “If you are unable to save to the drive, we recommend that you try and connect it to another device as an external or secondary hard drive. That way, if the SSD is still working, you can at least recover all your files and delete all the data before discarding your SSD,” says Yu

Product Review - @XPG_Global EMIX I30 #WiredEarphones #Gaming Headset @AdataTechnology

Hi Friends,

Sometimes you make a view about certain things without even trying them out and that called your perception towards that brand or product. I too have a lot of perceptions which are generally correct but sometimes they get challenged by the value the product offers and makes me think why I had that perception in the first place. I always try to find out the reason and keeps challenging my brain for all the perceptions learned during this lifetime. One of these products which challenged my perception is called XPG EMIX I30 which I was able to review is this Gaming Headset from ADATA Technology. Launched during the last year and made its way to South Africa recently is World's first real 3D surround in-ear headsets and after reading its specifications, I contacted the PR company to arrange a review unit at that time.

XPG is not a new name in the Gaming Industry Market for launching products which are excellent, reliable and value for money. They are mostly in Solid State Drives and DRAM modules for increasing the random access memory for your gaming desktop and laptops. Adata Technology is more into external storage, USB flash drives, memory cards and readers, power banks, cables and more recently wireless chargers. Coming back to the product XPG EMIX I30, the first thing you will like is the packaging of the product and the accessories the package contains. As these are wired handsets, so they will give you the pleasure of using your old 3.5mm jacked devices and you will really enjoy the same.
Product Review - @XPG_Global EMIX I30 #WiredEarphones #Gaming Headset @AdataTechnology
Packed inside a small pack is the premium carrying case with XPG logo to carry your earphones around. The pack is small enough to fit your jeans pocket and can be easily held in your hands too. Inside the package, you will also receive airplane adapter along with a 2-in-a adapter cable to connect to most of the gaming devices. As all earphones contain, EMIX I30 comes with extra earplugs in Small, Medium and Large sizes. The product is packaged in a black box with red streaks which really makes the product look premium.

Coming to the main in-ear headsets unit, the first time I saw them, I just waited for some time before taking them out of the packaging. I just loved the Red and Black design matching the natural shape of the pottery vessels from Egypt. This shape helps the XPG earphones to bring in the necessary technology to bring world's first real 3D - 5.2 surround-sound effect. The earphones have an inner vacuum tube which allows EMIX I30 to transfer sound in a way that creates a convincing spatial effect. The elastic materials that line this tube move inwards and outwards based on frequency, allowing for a wider range of frequencies. Each earphone has a micro-subwoofer embedded for bass boost, and together with these innovative designs, these 13.5 mm driver unit creates an impressive surround effect which is rich in bass and clear sound.
Product Review - @XPG_Global EMIX I30 #WiredEarphones #Gaming Headset @AdataTechnology
Extra 3.5mm driver unit amongst its competitors really helps the headsets punch in extra bass and also the ability to handle deeper lows and sharper highs to cater to all kinds of music, movies, and games. I have been able to test these earphones in various genre of songs and totally loved the same. It brought in the feeling that how much I love music and what I am missing these days in my day to day struggle for earnings and running the family.

The design of the earbuds is very good where the cable is handled on the left side for left earbud and right earbud has the cable connected on the extreme right end of the earbuds. This really helps you to put them into your ears correctly without thinking and working out which way is the microphone so that will be right side etc. There is a small cavity on the top ends of both the drums of the earbuds. Silicon earplugs provide noise isolation and are comfortable to wear because the earbuds are really lightweight. The right side cable also contains in-cable remote button and mic for attending to phone calls and conversing with your fellow players during gameplay. You will be able to control track forward and rewind, play and pause and several other general functions with the same.
Product Review - @XPG_Global EMIX I30 #WiredEarphones #Gaming Headset @AdataTechnology
I am not a fan of powerful bass other than while watching movies but these days, you can control the same on your smartphone using some of the audio equalizer settings. I have used these headsets with Sony Walkman MP3 player and iPod Shuffle along with several other smartphones available with my family members. After using them for more than a month, I can proudly say that these earphones can easily replace my day to day earphones which are Bose MIE2i mobile headsets since 2013. What I loved about Bose earphones was the theatre like surround sound effects but these headsets produce 5.2 channel surround sound with full noise isolation which brings in powerful effects. I delayed my review post for a fortnight so that I can continue to use this review unit so you can judge how much I loved these earphones! Ha Ha Ha!!!

Note - All the images are from the website. I will be posting the images on my Instagram page soon.

The Role of #PortableStorage in a #Cloud-Dominated World - Tony Yu @ADATATechnology

Hi Friends,

While the use of cloud is on the increase, there is still a very important role for portable storage, particularly in countries where pervasive and reliable connectivity is lacking, and the cost of data is prohibitive. This is the view of Tony Yu, ADATA country manager for South Africa.

“In South Africa, fixed-line connectivity is still concentrated around urban areas, with people in more remote areas relying on mobile connectivity to access the internet. The challenge we face, however, is that mobile data in the country is expensive, with South Africa ranking as the most expensive in the top 6 countries in Africa,” he says. “For consumers to use cloud storage they require reliable connectivity that is affordable. A slow or unstable connection could be the source of much frustration for the consumer.”

Yu believes there are several circumstances where portable storage would make more sense for consumers. “With a portable storage device, they will still be able to back up the data that is important to them, without requiring an internet connection or using up their expensive mobile data. The cost of data roaming is also very high, so for traveling professionals, a portable storage device might also be a better option.”
The Role of #PortableStorage in a #Cloud-Dominated World - Tony Yu @ADATATechnology
In 2017, mobile service providers came under fire for the high cost of connectivity, but, despite out of bundle rates being reduced, the overall cost of data remains very high. The service providers have argued that they require more spectrum to be made available for them to roll out more affordable data bundles, but the process of spectrum allocation is yet to commence. “Unless something is done to extend fixed-line connectivity and drive down the cost of mobile data, using cloud storage will not be a viable option for many South Africans. Couple that with the fact that the cost of portable hard drives has come down significantly since they first hit the market and you have a much better solution for consumers’ backup and data storage needs,” he says.
Many pundits will argue that cloud storage is far more secure and reliable due to the resources that the big cloud providers put into their public cloud solutions, and that portable hard drives are more vulnerable to damage, due to their portability. “Portable hard drives have evolved enormously over the past couple of years,” says Yu. “We, as ADATA, for example, have hard drives available that have military-grade shock resistance and have water and dust resistant protection. Additionally, these devices are equipped with shock sensors and should they detect strong vibrations while the device is in use its protective systems will be activated to prevent further damage.”

Product Review - @ADATATechnology HD650 2.5" External Hard Disk Drive #Gadgets

Hi Friends,

We all love technology and with the increasing pixel size of the camera and the HD quality of movies, we all are always in need of digital space. Though there are newer cloud technologies coming into the market to make some space on our devices but then we are always skeptical about saving our data online as some events of hacking has showed us during the Game of Thrones episodes released online or the hollywood stars personal images going viral or various other data thefts happened on some of the online networks from big brands.

I remember my journey of data crunching (as we may call it) to collect data from friends and relatives which is unique and not with me on their desktop computers. I used to take my 20GB hdd out from my desktop PC and then take it to the friend's house and get some stuff like mp3 songs, movies, books and softwares. I subsequently migrated to 40GB and then 80GB with an external hard disk casing setup brought by my brother from Singapore. When my brother bought a Sony PS3, he exchanged his 40GB hdd for 200GB hdd and I bought a small 2.5mm casing to use the same. It worked but as the movie size increased and the greediness to keep all the good movies on the hard disk, this space too became less and full.

Product Review - @ADATATechnology HD650 2.5" External Hard Disk Drive #Gadgets
I bought one Transcend 640GB portable hdd from Nehru Place, New Delhi but that hard disk didn't lasted more than a year and died when I was using it to transfer data from some friend in London. It came with a 5 year warranty but could never got it replaced using the Brand's after-sales mechanism. Then I bought a Western Digital 1TB Elements hard disk which is still working with some bad sectors which I formatted after a span of 5 years losing some data in the process.

Here in South Africa, I came across ADATA Technology's HD650 Portable 2.5" Hard Disk in 1TB version which was just 201 gram considering it has impact absorbing rubber coating and 3 layered construction to keep the original disks safe and your data intact. The hard disk is simply covered with a silicon case just like we cover our smartphones. Other than that it also has an exclusive plastic shock structure casing to take care of certain things silicons covers are not able to. To add extra protection, the hard disk is equipped on a cushioned mounting making it unique and great on paper.

Product Review - @ADATATechnology HD650 2.5" External Hard Disk Drive #Gadgets
The hard disk looks good and the plastic case is resistant to any types of scratching and marring. The transfer speeds are fast with compatible USB 3.0 interface. It's backward compatible also which means you can still use the same with your old laptops or desktops with 2.0 USB type connection. The approximate actual hard disk capacity is generally 93% of the total marked by manufacturers so we get around 931 GB on this one.

The transfer speeds are great on my old Dell laptop which has a USB 3.0 interface and I could transfer the movies and data from my laptop to the hard disk very fast and same was true when I returned the data back to the laptop. I was not brave enough to play with the review hard disk and throw the same on the ground but I felt it can take some rough handling and can be used when you are on a traveling as the build quality is nice.
Product Review - @ADATATechnology HD650 2.5" External Hard Disk Drive #Gadgets
I am thinking of buying another one to use it for all my travel to different locations and as and when I stay in any of the hotels with big TV and entertainment units, I can plug in my own content in the NTFS formatted hdd as most of the smart TV's are Linux based and unable to recognize FAT32 formatted hard disks. Adata offers a 3 years warranty on it's HD650 and is available in Black, Blue and Red colors. I really loved the Red color in this hard disk.

Go checkout the Adata HD650 if it suits your requirements and check out some of the other products by the brand too.

Cheers!!!

@ADATAtechnology Launches the XPG SX6000 PCIe Gen3x2 M.2 2280 SSD #SouthAfrica

Hi Friends,

ADATA Technology, a leading manufacturer of high performance DRAM modules and NAND Flash products, today launched the XPG SX6000 SSD. The product represents a bold move to provide PCI Express storage performance for nearly the same price to end users as that of traditional 2.5” SATA SSD. The SX6000 uses the compact M.2 form factor and reaches 1000MB/s read and 800MB/s write, easily doubling SATA SSD throughput without a relative increase in price. This is part of an ADATA focus on high speed, compact M.2 drives aimed at gamers, overclockers, and PC DIY enthusiasts. The SX6000 meets NVMe 1.2 specs and offers up to 1TB capacity, all at an approachable entry-level alongside its more premium stablemates the SX7000, SX8000, and SX9000.

Twice the speed without a need to spend significantly more

The leading advantage of the SX6000 is embodied in its superb cost-performance ratio. Using 3D TLC NAND, a Realtek controller, NVMe 1.2 technology, and a PCIe Gen3x2 interface, it reaches 1000MB/s read and 800MB/s write. Compared to a typical 500MB/s by 400MB/s on SATA III SSDs, this means doubled performance for less than 10% more spend in same-capacity comparisons. Increasingly, motherboards ship with two and four M.2 slots, up from a single slot on select boards just two years ago. Therefore, PCIe M.2 SSDs are expected to become more normative and the SX6000 encourages this trend as an affordable high speed alternative that works great as an OS drive and mass storage.

The perfect upgrade or alternative in multiple capacity options
ADATA produces the SX6000 in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Once more, each model is less than 10% costlier than a same-capacity SATA III SSD. For PC users looking at tangible performance enhancements, the SX6000 makes complete sense as a SATA III successor.

Feature rich and designed for long-term use

The SX6000 incorporates the usual range of performance and longevity-enhancing features shared by all ADATA and XPG SSDs. Wear leveling, DRAM Cache, and SLC Caching all ensure better load distribution and sustained peak performance even when handling large tasks such as moving AAA game titles or rendering video. While other PCIe M.2 SSDs may be faster, the SX6000 easily surpasses SATA SSDs and of course leaves hard drives far behind, being ten times faster than the quickest mechanical solution.

Thanks to their oversized drivers, EMIX I30 earphones are able to produce patented 5.2-channel surround sound with a strong spatial effect. While compact and light, EMIX I30 earphones bring gamers impactful sound whether at home or on the go.

Versatile cross-platform compatibility
EMIX H30 and EMIX I30 work driver-free on PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox, Switch, and mobile devices. This means gamers no longer need to purchase dedicated headsets for different devices. Products will be available at TVR Distribution, in Dec. 2017, RRP still to be confirmed.
