William Shatner @WilliamShatner - SCI-FI Cultural Icon To Appear @ComicConAfrica #ComicConAfrica

Hi Friends,

Trekkies and the rest of Africa are about to lose their minds! Reed Exhibitions Africa and ReedPOP today announced that acclaimed Emmy Award winner, actor, author, producer, director, and singer William Shatner is appearing at Comic-Con Africa in September 2019. Shatner became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise.

Shatner’s Captain Kirk was charismatic, moral, just and headstrong. Brave enough to save a planet under attack and charming enough to win over the most stubborn dissenters. Kirk stubbornly took matters into his own hands, often disobeying orders, but was an inspirational leader who pushed his crew, his ship and most of all, himself, to the limits of what they could accomplish. He was also something of a womanizer, and in line with Star Trek’s fight against the status quo of the time, he featured in one of television’s first interracial kisses.

The science fiction series created by Gene Roddenberry only lasted for three seasons yet thanks in no small part to Shatner’s portray of Captain James T Kirk, the series did not die. In fact, the opposite happened. The show continued to live on in syndication and became even more popular. Star Trek became a Saturday morning cartoon that ran during the mid-1970s, and it was resurrected in a live-action film in 1979. Returning to the role of Kirk, Shatner starred in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The film's warm reception by film-goers showed how much affection the public has for Shatner and the series. Shatner continues to lend his star power to Pop Culture this day and appeared in the final season of The Big Bang Theory.
William Shatner @WilliamShatner - SCI-FI Cultural Icon To Appear @ComicConAfrica
The show was also the benefactor of one of the most successful fan-organized letter-writing campaigns in TV history. 100,000 Trekkies wrote letters demanding the show stay on the air, and 200 students marched to show their support for the franchise which was then retained for a further season.
Another of Shatner’s most successful shows was Boston Legal, where he played the character, Denny Crane. Confident, crude, irreverent, and stubborn, he elicited strong feeling in whoever met him. He founded the law firm, Crane, Poole & Schmidt featured in the show. He was flexible with his principles at work but fastidious with his personal scruples. Denny was very sure of his capabilities and stated he had won over 6,000 cases and would never lose a single one. He was a maverick, and at the time of the show he was something of a liability, yet always retained his legendary status.

Before encountering all sorts of unusual aliens and challenging situations, Shatner started his career as a child performer in radio programs for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and continued to pursue his acting career while he was a student at McGill University.

Shatner made his film debut in 1958's The Brothers Karamazov with Yul Brynner. That same year, he returned to Broadway for a two-year run in The Secret Life of Suzie Wong and in 1959 won the Theatre World Award for his performance. After a few successful acting roles on the big and small screen, on the 8 September 1966 he landed the role of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek that franchise, the role that made him synonymous with all things Sci-Fi and pop culture.

He has written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Captain Kirk and being a part of Star Trek and has co-written several novels set in the Star Trek universe. He has also written a series of science fiction novels called TekWar that were adapted for television.

But only a ticket to Comic-Con Africa will give you the opportunity to meet the Godfather of Sci-Fi. Tickets to this must-attend pop culture festival of the year are selling out fast. Tickets will get you access to all areas, except for William Shatner’s dressing room! @Everest2020SA All-Women Mountaineering Team Sets Sights On New 9 Peak Challenge Record #couragetostart #strengthtoendure

Hi Friends,

Two members of the first all-women team from Africa scheduled to climb Mt Everest in 2020 are attempting to complete the South African 9 Peaks Challenge in August this year – covering 141km of hiking, 7,888m of vertical ascent, and 5,298km of driving – as the first women-only team to do it.

The 9 Peaks Challenge involves the ascent of the highest point of each province in South Africa, with strict adherence to set rules to successfully challenge a category record. The clock starts at the foot of the first peak and ends on the summit of the last. The ‘fastest known time for a female team’ category is unchallenged, and mountaineers Alda Waddell and Tumi Mphahlele plan to make their mark, starting on 22 August and taking between four and six days to complete it. The fastest time by a mixed pair was set in October 2018 by Jurgens and Christel Hanekom in 4 days, 18 hours, and 45 minutes.
@Everest2020SA All-Women Mountaineering Team Sets Sights On New 9 Peak Challenge Record #couragetostart #strengthtoendure
The peaks are Iron Crown (2,126m) near Haenertsburg in Limpopo; De Berg (2,331m) near Lydenburg in Mpumalanga; Seweweekspoort Peak (2,325m) in the Groot Swartberg Nature Reserve in the Western Cape; Nooigedacht (1,816m), the highest point of the Magaliesberg in North West; Mafadi (3,451m) the highest peak in South Africa in the Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal; Toringkop (1,913m) in Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve in Gauteng; Kwaduma (3,019m) in the Drakensberg in the Eastern Cape; Namahadi (3,291m) in the Drakensberg in the Free State; and Murch Point (2,156m) in the Karoo in the Northern Cape.
@Everest2020SA All-Women Mountaineering Team Sets Sights On New 9 Peak Challenge Record #couragetostart #strengthtoendure
The two intrepid women, who together with Lisa Gering and Deshun Deysel, all four from Johannesburg, are preparing to summit Everest in April and May 2020 to fulfill their dreams and to inspire young women entrepreneurs to have the ‘courage to start and the strength to endure’ – the motto of the Everest expedition.

Waddell says doing the 9 Peaks Challenge is in preparation of the #Everest2020 challenge. “It’s not an easy challenge and it is in many ways forcing Tumi and me to be focused and super fit. It’s also exciting as this is probably one of the best South African mountaineering challenges for endurance we can participate in. This Challenge will test our mental tenacity and physical endurance that we will need next year with the long days and nights in extremely cold weather. Endurance is what gets you to the top – just putting one foot in front of the other.”
@Everest2020SA All-Women Mountaineering Team Sets Sights On New 9 Peak Challenge Record #couragetostart #strengthtoendure
Waddell (45) who works at BMW SA and describes herself as the mother of 17-year-old twins, says her interest in mountaineering started in 2008 when she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. “The entire journey of mountaineering is an adventure, from meeting new people and creating lifelong bonds, to the intensive planning and mental and physical preparation needed for each climb, and the extraordinary places I’ve visited and experienced.”

Tumi, director at IG3N and Amperion Energy, is a recreational endurance athlete with a keen interest in mountain sports. She has successfully climbed three of the seven global summits – Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus and Mt. Aconcagua – and has ambitions to complete the rest over the next few years. She has also summited other mountain peaks of varying altitudes in Africa and South America. She says that the idea of being the first all-women team from Africa to summit Everest gives her goosebumps. “It will be a dream come true. While I respect the mountains and recognize the risk and dangers associated with climbing Mount Everest, I do think that the success for the team and for the continent is worth the risk.”
@Everest2020SA All-Women Mountaineering Team Sets Sights On New 9 Peak Challenge Record #couragetostart #strengthtoendure
Summiting the 9 Peaks in South Africa, and setting a record as the first all-women team to complete the challenge was her idea and in line with her abilities. “I have the mental and the physical strength, the fighting spirit, and the temperament to attempt such a feat and stay the course. I have a strong work ethic and an ability to practice objectivity, even under intense pressure. I get fulfillment from achieving the goals that I set for myself.”

Completing the 9 Peaks Challenge will also increase awareness of the team’s Everest 2020 plans and contribute to securing sponsorship, which vital for the expedition as the full cost of the preparation climbs and the climb up Mt. Everest in 2020 for the four-women team is about R5 million.

#TheLifesWayGoals @Walkthetalk_ #MTN702WALK #Target25km 28Jul19 - Week 5/6/7 #HuaweiHealthSA

Hi Friends,

It really requires a strong will power to continue and leave aside your regular tasks and lifestyle to carry on to some new goals in your life. I have been missing on my goal for which I was getting prepared and as I thought that I am going good, I relaxed my will power to focus on watching Netflix TV series and posting a lot of blog posts on my blog and other social media channels which I was not able to do when I was walking every alternate day as  per my schedule. Another idea hit me in Week 4 that I shall walk daily rather than stretching myself on Tue and Thu and Sat and do some regular walking to save on time and put regular effort daily. That is the worst idea as daily it's almost impossible for me to go out and with weather fluctuating in Johannesburg, South Africa my body is always looking for some reasons to not go out.
#TheLifesWayGoals @Walkthetalk_ #MTN702WALK #Target25km 28Jul19 - Week 5/6/7 #HuaweiHealthSA
After 3 weeks of TV watching including all the cricket matches and Lucifer Season 1, Designated Survivor Season 3 and many other movies I can surely say that Entertainment and Fitness can't go hand in hand for me. I have to sacrifice one at the expense of others and now since the past 3 weeks, my body is not keeping well as compared to when I was walking regularly. I am again committing myself to the schedule and going to enhance my walking in a month left to the race day. Time flies and the race day will be much nearer than I thought as I wasted first 3 weeks of June in stuff which I wanted to do but was postponing so it's a win-lose situation but I am ok about it.

I have been looking for my shoes and wanted to experiment with the PUMA ones I have but those seem to be unlucky shoes as I didn't walk in those more than 3.18km on 4th June 2019. I shall return to my old, dusty and torn shoes from New Balance as they are my heart and they love me and I love them. They are the only lucky ones which kept me on track for such a long time on anything. Let's start with them again and walk till the end in those only, who cares. It's a race for myself and my body and nobody else cares about that. I have this problem from the start of my life that I need to have all the resources ready for me to start something which is always a wrong strategy. You shall always start and resources come on the way! Let's try to change it and build towards a healthier future Aashish Rai Jain! Amen!

#TheLifesWayGoals @HuaweiZA #MTN702WALK #Target25km 28Jul19 - Week 4 #HuaweiWatchGT

Hi Friends,

Week 4 saw me down with cough and cold catching up with me and I was at the verge of falling sick and when I started my walk on 4th Tuesday, I could not go further than 3km and it took almost 40 min to complete the same too.

Let's focus this post on Huawei Watch GT and what it brings on the table for me for this walk, some key points are explained as below -
  1. Battery Life: Now I can forget that my watch is digital smartwatch as the battery life of Huawei Watch GT is huge. It can easily go for more than 1 weeks with my exercise regime but for most people, it will easily cross 2 weeks with a single charge.
  2. AMOLED Display: On Huawei Watch GT Active edition I have its 1.39 inch AMOLED 454 x 454 HD screen and it's super awesome to watch in direct sunlight too.
  3. Gestures: The AMOLED screen supports slide and touch gestures as the dial is fixed, unlike Samsung watch which needs 2 fingers to operate.
  4. Charging: The watch gets charged fully in less than 2 hours on the Magnetic charging thimble which comes in the package.
  5. Water and Dust Resistance: It's 5 ATM water-resistant and the whole casing is secured with only charging pins out in the open. The watch keeps sending notification as you put on the charging cradle that keeps these pins are dry and without any water.
  6. Lovely Straps: The watch is easy to wear with its new design of straps which are comfortable on your wrist even when you wear them day in day out. I really loved my Orange Fluoroelastomer Strap which I wear while sleeping in the night too and only take out while taking a bath and when the watch is getting charged.
  7. Watch Case: I have got the 46.5 mm case in Titanium Grey Stainless Steel which is made up of Metal, Plastic and Ceramic. Please don't go by the name of the look as the case is not Stainless Steel.
  8. Buttons: Power button and Function Buttons are the only buttons other than the touch screen to do all the functions required.
  9. No Auto Pause and Auto Start - Huawei Watch GT doesn't offer the auto start and pause when you stop during the workout which is the case with earlier Samsung Gear S2 watch I was using. In this, you have to manually do the same by just clicking a button on the top side.
  10. No Floors Measurement: Despite having an altimeter, the Huawei Watch GT is not showing the floors walked in its software. This might come as a feature later in this watch.
  11. No Music Player: Huawei Watch has no music player built into the same, hence it will remain a watch and can't control your music and you will have to carry your mobile always.
  12. 786MB RAM: is very less and it can only take very less number of Watchfaces, unlike my earlier watch Gear S2 which has a 4GB memory to accommodate songs as well as apps and 100s of watch faces.
So these were some of the things from the top of my mind about the Huawei Watch GT! My performance for the week remains good as I completed my first 15km in about 2-3 minutes less than the last race I participated last year in Pretoria for Spring Walk - 15kms.

Hi Friends,

The annual Rush Esports event is quite literally upon us, and esports enthusiasts are gearing up, locking down and putting on their game faces for one of South Africa’s most thrilling events on the esports calendar. The multi-tournament, multi-platform celebration of all things competitive gaming will be exploding into life on 28, 29 and 30 June 2019, at the Sun Arena, Time Square, Pretoria.

It goes without saying that the variety of tournaments being hosted is enough to get you firing on all cylinders - FIFA 19, CS:GO, DOTA 2, StarCraft, Hearthstone, Fortnite and Tekken 7. But it’s the list of prizes up for grabs that are truly going to blow your mind. The prize pool for Rush, sponsored by Vodacom 4U and Samsung, includes cash prizes, product prizes, and overseas trips, totaling over R450,000.

The stakes have never been this high, the tournaments never this grand and the prizes never before this sensational!

“At Vodacom 4U, gaming and esports are one of the key strategic pillars that support our brand strategy,” Says Ulanova Visser, Marketing Director at Vodacom 4U. “Last year we were very excited for the opportunity to partner with Rush Esports South Africa and offer massive prizes for three gaming titles. The success of this partnership has led to us upping the ante for 2019 by doubling the number of gaming titles to six - as well as substantially increasing the overall prize purse that will be up for grabs to the competitors.
Gamers, Geeks and Fantasy Freaks – This Is Your Time To Shine! @RushCoZA #rushesports2019 #connected #vodacomfibre
“Because Vodacom’s Youth Franchise Channel is fluent in “gaming speak”, it’s only logical that Vodacom Fibre will be providing all the connectivity for the event to ensure that our gamers can enjoy serious uninterrupted gaming while competing during the weekend. Through Vodacom Fibre, we are able to offer our customers finance options to purchase gaming consoles and other products by simply adding on to their monthly contract commitment. We are also thrilled to be supporting a Fortnite Cosplay category competition at the event.”

Aside from competing, Rush offers the perfect opportunity for all ages and skill levels to get a taste of esports – even if they’re just watching. Big screens and live commentary will be giving visitors throw by throw rundowns of the tournaments, guaranteeing maximum audience thrills.

This year entrance tickets to Rush also include entrance into GeekFest - a complete weekend invasion of all things geek including Sumo Wrestling, a Dance Dance Revolution setup, Robowar competitions, a Gladiator Ring, cosplay and a LARP tournament.

To say this a jam-packed entertainment lineup is an understatement. Rush has pulled out every single stop, and then some, to ensure maximum gamer and geek immersion across the whole weekend.

Tickets to Rush are on sale now at Ticketpro and include full access to GeekFest. GeekFest tickets also include full access to Rush.

Our phones are an integral part of many aspects of our daily lives and we use them hundreds of times a day for communication, entertainment and information, both at work or school and at home.

Our phones have become especially important for those family trips. From keeping the kids occupied on those long drives to avoid the irritating “Are we there yet?” Questions, to preserving invaluable holiday memories through photos and videos, phones are something we now simply can’t do without when on vacation.

Going the distance
As phone technologies have progressed over the years, so too have their features that enable us to make the most of our family getaways. One of these is our phones’ navigation tools, powered by a long-life battery. There is no longer a need to buy multiple map books for a holiday, or even bring along a separate GPS device to chart your route. These days, you simply use your phone’s GPS app. Of course, a battery life that goes the distance is imperative for this feature; no one wants to spend the start of their holiday going miles out of their way because their phone battery (and sole navigation tool) has died on them.

For the tots
We all know the little ones can get a bit (sometimes more than a bit!) restless, especially when traveling long distances cooped up in a confined space, such as in cars or planes. Luckily, many phones now come built in with advanced gaming technologies with revolutionary graphics, thankfully redirecting kids’ attention from getting on their parents’ nerves to winning their games. Couple this with extended battery life capabilities, and we’re good to go for quite a few uninterrupted hours of peaceful traveling.

Say what?
For those trips abroad, smartphones now enable us to completely dismantle language barriers through their advanced translation features. Bus schedules, street signs, and restaurant menus no longer have to be a source of unnecessary stress and confusion, allowing us to achieve that much-needed state of peace and relaxation that the holiday was intended for.

In retrospect
Regrettably, holidays have a habit of flying by all too quickly, and before we know it we’re back at our desks again. Luckily, post-vacation blues can be combatted by looking back on our memories on our smartphone, allowing us to relive those precious times with loved ones.

Thanks to increased storage space on smartphones, no moment has to go uncaptured, which lets us reflect on every single moment of our holidays from start to finish. That high-definition video depicting your young son running on the beach, or that image of the family all huddled around a cozy fire in the bush become a great source of escape from the doldrums of everyday life.

Fit for purpose
The new Huawei P30 Pro provides users with all of these features. Its 4200mAh battery lasts roughly two days when fully charged, so you don’t have to worry about your phone dying on you midway through navigating around the Karoo. With its Leica Quad Camera System, which includes a 40MP primary camera with the HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor, the Huawei P30 Pro provides users with the ability to capture extraordinary photos and videos. Its 8MP camera with a periscope design allows for incredible zooming capabilities – without affecting the quality of the image – while the ultra-wide 20MP unit enables you to capture the most beautiful wide shot images of mountains and shorelines. Lastly, the phone’s 32MP selfie camera invites you to snap those silly holiday-mode selfies in high quality, adding even more vivid memories to the photo gallery – all of which can be stored on the phone’s 256 GB storage space.

To keep the kids busy, the new Huawei P30 Pro boasts beautiful high definition graphics for gaming and a GPU turbo 3.0. This optimizes the performance of games through an AI SIM Switch, which means no more stuttering or lag while gaming (and no more whining from the kids). When the signal in SIM 1 is poor, the system automatically switches to SIM 2 to secure a stronger network. This is ideal for traveling, as we all know phone signal can often change quite drastically when we’re on the go.

Is It Time To Replace Your Phone Battery? @HuaweiZA #Smartphone #WowWay #HuaweiService

Hi Friends,

Although phone batteries have come a long way in the past few years, they are still not built to last forever. While smartphones have advanced at a rapid rate, no longer falling prey to underperformance after passing their second birthday, phone batteries can’t offer the same performance over time, simply because they are a consumable component. Like all rechargeable batteries, phone batteries hold less power, and become less effective as they age, which usually starts happening after about 18 to 24 months. Most smartphone batteries offer about 300 to 500 charging cycles.

Here are a few signs that it might be time to replace your smartphone battery:
  • Is your phone losing its charge a lot quicker than it used to? If you used to still be at 60% around midday, even after extensive use, and you’re now at 40% while chewing on your lunchtime sarmie, then it might be time to say cheers to the battery you’re using.
  • Is your phone losing about 10% of charge within 20 minutes after unplugging it from the charger? A few percentage points of battery drop are okay, but a more significant drop might be signs of a bigger problem.
  • Is your phone refusing to charge completely, no matter how long you leave it in the charger? This might mean it’s time for out with the old (battery) and in with the new.
  • Does your phone feel hotter than usual while charging? This is because a deteriorating battery generates heat. If this is happening, then it’s definitely time to get a new battery.

For Huawei smartphone users, an easy battery replacement is within their reach, with Huawei’s special battery replacement promotion from 1 to 30 June.

If your phone is covered by Huawei’s two-year warranty, Huawei will also replace the battery – for free. Both offers include a free labor charge of R400; these days it’s crucial to get your battery replaced by the professionals, as most smartphones are not easy to open yourself.

Huawei Service Day
Huawei also offers what they call Huawei Service Day, which runs in the last week of every month from Thursday to Sunday. This includes:
  • Free Exterior Phone Cleaning
  • Free Screen Protectors
  • Free Out-of-warranty Labour Charge (you only pay for parts replacement)
  • Free Software Support
Phones models included in both these offers are:

  • Cape Town Shop G 231, Somerset Mall, Centenary Dr, Somerset West
  • Durban Shop U91, Cornubia Dr, Mount Edgecombe Country Estate 2, Mount Edgecombe
Yesterday on 19th June, I went in with my Huawei P20 Pro and came to know that the Batteries for this particular smartphone is out of stock @ Melrose Arch and they will call me once they receive the same and it will be done in about 2-7 working days at R199. But when they saw a small crack on the corner of my smartphone screen the sales agent told me that it will be around R2500 for the whole thing as the battery is attached to the display and it will break further if they try to change the battery on this smartphone. I have brought my smartphone back home and using it will they call me with the battery inventory and then I can decide if I want to go and pay R2500 for the whole process.

What To Do If Your Identity Has Been Stolen? @TransUnionSA #IdentityTheft #Fraud

Hi Friends,

Finding purchases or transactions on your bank statements that you can’t explain? Receiving credit cards or statements for accounts that you never applied for? Denied credit for a purchase, even though your credit record is clear? Chances are that you’ve become one of a growing number of South Africans who have become victims of identity theft – and you need to act quickly to limit the damage, warns TransUnion senior director of the consumer business Garnet Jensen.

Jensen says identity theft is rife in South Africa, with nearly half of South African consumers have either fallen victim to identity theft or knowing someone who has, according to TransUnion research.

The problem with identity theft is that victims typically only find out about the theft months later – by which time, someone can easily have obtained false lines of credit and racked up significant debt in their name.

“Generally, thieves will use the victim’s identity to purchase products and services on credit, particularly for high-end goods like electronics and luxury items,” said Jensen. “In the worst-case scenario, thieves can use your ID to apply for large value credit purchases such as vehicle finance or even commit a crime using your identity.”
What To Do If Your Identity Has been Stolen? @TransUnionSA #IdentityTheft #Fraud
Popular targets for fraudsters include retail accounts, mobile phone contracts, and bank accounts, but ID thieves have also been known to intercept employment application or credit applications and use those documents to steal identities.

If you suspect that someone has stolen your identity, there are several things you need to do.
  • Report the theft. Immediately report the identity theft to the SAPS, and the company, bank or financial institution where the fraud occurred. For insurance fraud, contact your insurance company, and let them know that your identity has been stolen. Also, make contact with the South African Fraud Prevention Services (SAFPS) to register as a victim of identity theft.
  • Freeze your accounts. Make sure you close your existing bank accounts and the bank accounts opened by the thief. Get new accounts and PINs.
  • Protect your identity. Change your login and passwords for all of your online accounts – not just the affected ones. In fact, one of the best identity protection habits you can have is to change your email and online passwords on a regular basis. Be wary of emails and offers from unknown senders: “You don’t suddenly have a billionaire uncle overseas who has been searching for you for years and has finally found your email address,” says Jensen.
  • Monitor Your Identity. Check your credit report regularly for any signs that someone might have stolen your identity. You can review your report for signs of suspicious activity, such as accounts that you don’t recognize or credit checks from companies with which you’ve never done business.
“Reclaiming your identity and cleaning up your record is a long and arduous process,” says Jensen. “It’s important for you to maintain the security of your information and manage the recovery process if your information is compromised. Early detection, using tracking products by credit bureaus, can limit the damage to your finances and credit record, giving you a better chance of reclaiming your identity.”

You have access to a free credit report once every 12 months. To find out if you have been a victim of identity theft, visit for a free copy of your credit report.

#HelloPaisa @hellogroupsa Recognised As 1 of 50 #Fintechs Driving #FinancialInclusion #ChangingLives

Hi Friends,

In an achievement for not only home-grown organization Hello Paisa to be proud of but indeed for all South Africans to celebrate, the company was selected from over 400 hopeful applicants and placed among the globe’s top 50 fintechs. The judging panel consisted of industry experts across venture capital, banking, fintech, and other sectors. This win is particularly significant to the company and is a vindication of their commitment to driving financial inclusion.

Each of the 50 winners named was selected based on their achievements and impact which demonstrates the power that financial inclusion has in the global effort to expand access, usage, and quality of financial services, across both advanced and emerging markets.
#HelloPaisa @hellogroupsa Recognised As 1 of 50 #Fintechs Driving #FinancialInclusion #ChangingLives
Based on their local insights, Hello Paisa identified that the cost of remitting funds from South Africa was too expensive, takes too long and - in some cases - there were no legal means available. Hello Paisa stepped up to lead the charge in finding a practical solution. Making use of industry-leading technology, as well as partnering with the globe’s most reputable partners, the company was successful in their lobbying efforts with regulators. The result was the company’s popular platform, geared towards driving down costs of international remittance and creating a means through which users can safely and legally send funds around the world.

In May 2019, Hello Paisa launched its digital banking offering in partnership with Sasfin Bank Limited to service yet another need of its loyal customers.

According to Ahmed Cassim, the Managing Director of Hello Paisa, “For the past four years, Hello Paisa has thrived on the principle of doing well and doing good. Fundamentally, we are a community company focused on empowering people, and creating a culture of social enterprise utilizing technology as a catalyst. We have changed lives, through offering our customers a SIM card to call their families, remittance solutions to send money home, and now we are embarking on the next chapter of offering a bank account to keep their money safe and a debit card to transact - anywhere and everywhere.”

Comedian @ChrisForrestSA Makes Star Turn as a Hapless Hustler in @KingsOfMulberry #KingsOfMulberryStreet

Hi Friends,

South African funny man Chris Forrest stars in Judy Naidoo’s latest film Kings of Mulberry Street, which will be in cinemas from 28 June 2019.

The film tells the story of two nine-year-old boys feisty Ticky (Aaqil Hoosen) and his sidekick the more timid Baboo (Shaan Nathoo), who set out to rid their community of local bully and crime boss, Raja.

The film is set in the 80s, in the fictional town of Sugarhill District in KwaZulu Natal. Forrest plays the role of Mr. White, the typical born and bred Durban beach bum. A colorful local and a hustler of note, he knows all the players in the criminal underworld. Unfortunately for Mr. White, he’s always the pawn and never the boss, but he’s a likable ‘ou’.

“Mr. White acts as the go-between for the unscrupulous Raja and a major drug syndicate,” says Naidoo. “He plays a big part in Raja’s scheme, and his ability to tolerate abuse from him is both painful and funny to observers. Chris was perfect for this role because of his unique sense of humor and he is one of the country’s most popular comedians.”
Comedian @ChrisForrestSA Makes Star Turn as a Hapless Hustler in @KingsOfMulberry #KingsOfMulberryStreet
Chris started out at the “Funny Farm” at what was then called the Randburg Waterfront and has since gone on to perform at every major comedy club, showcase or festival in the country.

He appeared in the 46664 “It’s No Joke” comedy show as one of South Africa’s top 10 comics, and is also a regular on the “Heavyweight Comedy Jam”, “The Blacks Only Show” and the “Kingsize Comedy Show”.

He has performed at several international festivals including the Edinburgh Festival, The Lyric Theatre in London, and major festivals in Dubai, Ghana, Botswana, and Swaziland.

In 2013 Chris hosted the prestigious Comics Choice Awards. Chris has also hosted his own episode of “Comedy Central Presents Live at Parker’s” and performed four successful one-man shows namely “Chris Forrest, He’s a really nice guy” which was broadcast on Comedy Central, “The Flipside”, “The Guy from TV” and most recently “Who’s Your Daddy?”

“Chris has such a unique quirkiness about him, that he was an obvious choice for the role. He has these really expressive, crazy eyes, you simply cannot help but laugh. He is also just such a lovely human being and has added enormous comedy value to Kings of Mulberry Street”, says Naidoo.

“Kings of Mulberry Street” will be distributed in South Africa by Indigenous Film Distribution, in partnership with Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

Catch “Kings of Mulberry Street” in cinemas from 28 June 2019.
