@NATIVE helps #Brands to Plan Better #NATIVEMedia

Most agencies are attempting to integrate digital media into the traditional media mix, bolting the digital offering onto traditional media strategies and schedules,” says Gordon Muller, Channel Strategist NATIVE Media.
“Currently digital media is being used to amplify traditional media campaigns or to facilitate brand engagement. We believe digital messaging needs to be the starting point with traditional media used to expand the offering. This is a simple but significantly different approach.”

Guilford adds that true integration is key and says agencies aren’t getting it quite right. “Currently in the media planning industry we are seeing that traditional agencies recognize the need for digital integration but don’t have the skill set to implement it effectively. The plan is to employ or assign someone to focus on the digital aspect. However this someone is trying to play in a space dominated by digital agency experts.

On the other hand digital agencies have very limited knowledge when it comes to traditional media planning. They find themselves pulled in after a traditional media plan has been decided on and asked to include a digital strategy. This puts constraints on digital within the campaign, limiting its potential and ultimately producing a strategy that does not reflect the digital behavior of today’s consumer. The shift towards digital being the starting point and underlying base of a campaign is an essential one,” she says.

Consumers have changed and will continue to change. The way media planning and strategy has always been done has to evolve to meet and exceed consumers’ changing needs. “Digital is no longer a channel. It is a vital part of every channel. We believe the success of NATIVE Media will lie in the digital expertise from NATIVE VML supported by the traditional know-how of Gordon and Trish. We are excited to be leading the way in what we believe will be a unique but needed approach to media planning,” says Arnold.

ShowMax is offering a seven-day trial period, with free access to the entire library in order to test the service. The ongoing cost of subscription is R99 per month, which allows access via five different devices. EISA Consumer Smartphone Award goes to #IgniteP8 @HuaweiZA

Before & After Party @SavannaCider - It's EPIC! #Jozi

Hi Guys,

Savanna, the premium cider that knows how to stand out from the crowd, took centre stage at an epic Before and After party at The Forum in Johannesburg. It was large, lavish and had everything that a heart desires. Great vibe, good food and above all, Premium Cider called Savanna Lite, Dry and Dark. 
“This was one of the Before and After party series taking place throughout South Africa – each event being a unique consumer experience. The evening was a celebration of the new Savanna bottle – the first change since the cider was launched in 1996,” says SA Marketing Manager, Marcel Swain. 
The guy is so humble that he walked up to me along with the esteemed photographer Marinda HeatWaveStudios  to click a picture with me and my wife. A lot of other photographs which I clicked are on my instagram page at araijain. Thanks a lot to Savanna for the invite.

Savanna fans rubbed shoulders with top comedians, Kagiso Lediga and Kurt Schoonraad, before getting into the groove with the likes of DJ Euphonic, DJ Speedsta, DJ Tira and Big Nuz in the dock. The music was extraordinary and all the guests were dancing wherever they are on the floor. There was a game where everyone interested has to get 4 stamps from various stalls on display on a passport kind which will then go into a lucky draw. A lucky girl won the Beats HD headphones and a couple won some expensive sunglasses from Savanna. It was not a goodies day for me thought but I enjoyed the music and awesome desserts.

M-Net Movies and MultiChoice brings #StarWars Pop-Up Channel #DisneyAfrica

M-Net Movies and MultiChoice are making African television history with a new pop up channel featuring all six epic films from the Star Wars Saga. From 31 August until 13 September DStv Premium customers will be transported to a galaxy far, far away with a special channel on M-Net Movies 109. This groundbreaking two week long addition to the existing nine M-Net Movies channels on DStv is the continent's very first events channel built around international movies, as well as Africa's first channel dedicated to all things Star Wars.
Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and all the other iconic Star Wars characters will wield their lightsabers on channel 109 on DStv Premium, which will feature all the Star Wars movies, as well as other programming linked to the franchise.

Each day of the week, starting 31 August, the M-Net Movies Star Wars channel will screen one of the blockbusters that dominated global popular culture since its epic release in 1977 – from the cult classic Star Wars: A New Hope with which George Lucas introduced us to Star Wars mythology to 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith which was praised for its mind-blowing digital effects. The movies will play in chronological order of release at 19:30 CAT as well as at 06:00 CAT on the same day, while those who missed out on the action during the week can binge-watch the entire galactic saga from beginning to end on Sundays.
The movies will be interspersed with animated features and series, documentaries and other delights from the Star Wars universe. With this M-Net Movies Pop-Up channel fans will be able to enjoy all their favorite Star Wars battles, plots and characters before the cinematic release of the brand-new Star Wars film later this year. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is due for release by the Walt Disney Company in December 2015.

In addition to the Star Wars content available to DStv Premium customers on channel 109, young and old alike can also look forward to a magical Star Wars online experience on www.mnet.tv. The RIDER comes pre-installed with a full map of Africa with 57 African countries and Free Lifetime Map updates. The device make use of different colour options for different times of day which enhances Sunlight Visibility also.
The device also makes use of TomTom’s Lifetime Traffic feeds to create a real-time map for users to choose the safest route based on congested roads. TomTom Runner Cardio has an innovative technology to get accurate heart rate information without the need for a separate chest strap. Your heart rate is measured through a sensor in the watch that monitors changes in the blood flow in your wrist. This is done by shining light through the skin and detecting the changing light reflections. It's the same technology which we saw in FitBit Charge HR which I reviewed on my blog.

The running watch can be synced with your smartphone using the TomTom mySports mobile app available for both Android and iOS. Now you can track, analyze and share your stats on popular running sites using the apps. The watch has 4-way button on the lower portion of the strap which helps you navigate and setup the watch in your day to day usage.

The watch is specifically for people who are very much into running unlike Fitbit Charge HR which can be used as a watch or lifestyle band also. TomTom Runner Cardio has bluetooth connectivity along with the GPS + Glonass which uses the TomTom QuickGPSfix to quickly connect. 

TomTom Runner Cardio has built in alarm and the battery gives you around 8-10 hours of battery life. The watch can be charged using the special cable which comes packaged in the box. Also the watch is waterproof upto a level of 50m (5ATM).  I found the watch to be a niche product for daily runners/joggers and those who wants to take this hobby or health regime further into a serious side.

TriggerFish's Story Lab - Storytelling Comes to Africa #DisneyAfrica

Triggerfish is a Cape Town based media and entertainment company passionate about producing original character-driven stories with universal appeal. Established in 1996 as a boutique stop-frame animation studio, it made some of South Africa's most memorable commercials. After the international success of its first two feature films, Triggerfish Animation Studios is establishing The Triggerfish Story Lab with the support of The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and The Walt Disney Company.

Triggerfish will be investing up to R44m over the next three years in The Story Lab, which aims to give Africa’s most talented storytellers and filmmakers the opportunity to develop their ideas alongside Triggerfish’s international network of mentors. Selected storytellers will potentially have their concepts developed into episodic TV content or an animated feature film for the global market.
Triggerfish is conducting a continent-wide search for storytellers. These storytellers will be carefully selected, based not only on the creative and commercial merits of their concept, but also on their track record. The entries will be evaluated by a high-profile panel of both local and international experts, including British director and co-founder of Aardman Peter Lord (Chicken Run, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists), Hollywood writer Jonathan Roberts (The Lion King), and a panel of development executives from The Walt Disney Company, as well as South African storyteller Gcina Mhlope, comedian David Kau and Triggerfish’s development team of Anthony Silverston, Wayne Thornley and Raffaella Delle Donne.

Shortlisted storytellers will take part in two weeks of workshops with leading Hollywood script consultants Karl Iglesias, author of Writing for Emotional Impact, and Pilar Alessandra, author of The Coffee Break Screenwriter. The selected Story Lab participants will also receive two weeks of mentoring with key studio and television executives at Disney’s headquarters in Burbank, California.
“We are ready to bring a fresh voice to the world,” says Anthony Silverston, head of development at Triggerfish. “We believe there is extraordinary talent in Africa and the Story Lab is the perfect way to partner with them.”

“We are excited to be supporting Triggerfish on this innovative project,” says Christine Service, senior vice president and country manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa. “We believe the Story Lab provides a unique opportunity to discover this continent’s next generation of storytellers.”

“The dti is committed to developing a pool of creative talent that can produce international quality animation production scripts,” says Nelly Molokoane from the dti’s Film and TV Incentives Unit, adding that the department is honoured to support projects that will contribute to job creation.
“The Story Lab will be a great catalyst for African creativity on the global stage,” says Triggerfish CEO Stuart Forrest. “We look forward to opening up the Triggerfish production platform and our networks to the continent’s top creative talent."

The development process can take a number of years. For each phase of development, Triggerfish will provide financial support, workspace, and expert guidance by internal and international consultants and mentors, as well as a route to market through top-tier relationships with Hollywood agency William Morris Endeavor. Animation has proven to be a successful medium for South African films to travel internationally, with Triggerfish’s films Adventures in Zambezia and Khumba (www.zambeziamovie.com & www.khumbamovie.com ) being distributed in over 150 countries and dubbed into over 27 languages.

Applications are welcome from all writing and creative disciplines, not just experienced film and TV screenwriters. Applicants must be over 21 and either African citizens or permanent residents. An Amazing Slots Race @TsogoSun @SilverstarZA to be Winners!

It’s an amazing race to the slots! Tsogo Sun launched its third annual increasingly-popular Slots Factor tournament with an Amazing Slots Race for media and celebrities on 23 July at Silverstar Casino. With a healthy dose of excitement, teamwork, quick thinking, tough competition, and prowess, thee event saw the six teams battling it out for great prizes and the fabulous prestige of winning. I was in Team Black and really enjoyed my journey towards the finish line which was well planned with series of tasks and activities to do.

The Tsogo Sun Slots Factor heats are currently underway and run for eight weeks from 20 July to 13 September across Tsogo Sun’s 14 casinos around the country, offering a record total of R2,4 million in cash and Freeplay, which includes a guaranteed first prize of R1 million in cash, and many other prizes. Do try your luck in the same and may be you can earn a fortune in this lifetime!

The Amazing Racers met at Montecasino where they were divided into their colour-coded teams and driven to Silverstar casino in Amazing Slots Race branded vehicles. After introductions and explanations, the race was on!

Each team had to visit four pit stops, two roadblocks, and a detour – all of which took in several of the precinct’s entertainment and food offerings – quickly completing the challenges along the route. Throughout the race, they were required to Tweet and Instagram their achievements and progress. The pitstops and roadblocks were really hard as well as great on entertainment. It really required a lot of effort to complete the same and we really enjoyed all the activities as a black team.

At the end of the Amazing Slots Race was the final challenge. Each team had to earn a R100 Slots Factor note during the race, which was used as the buy-in for a special Slots Factor tournament. After some heated action at the slot machines it was on to the prize-giving, where the Orange team won the prize for crossing the finishing line first, winning a Montecasino experience each. The second element of the competition – the Slots Factor tournament – was won by Team Red, who won R20 000 in cash.

My team (Black) was just short of 49 points from the Team Red in Slot Factor and we lost the game by a narrow margin. I could not score as much as my fellow team mates and we lost the game at the slots. But we won the best Team Spirit award which included a 2-night stay at Silvestar Casino in the Presedential Suite for a family. I am going to book the same asap and enjoy a holiday during Aug/Sep. 

Meanwhile, the excitement of the Slots Factor has just begun; the tournament runs from 20 July through to the finals at each casino that will take place on 19 September and the grand group final, taking place at Suncoast on 25 and 26 September.

A buy-in price of R100 cash makes the tournament accessible to everyone and entitles the participant to one entry into the tournament. Every cent of the buy-insacross the 14 casinos contributes to the final prize money, which means it could increase by the time the finals are held. This year Tsogo Sun is allowing packaged buy-ins, which include R200 for two tournament entries and R50 in Casino FreePlay, and R500 for five tournament entries and R150 in Casino FreePlay, valid for the day of play only.

New to the tournament this year is that the participant obtaining the highest score from a single buy-in or heat at each casino over the eight-week period will qualify for the grand finals at Suncoast without having to play off in the individual casino finals. Casino Free Play prizes will also be awarded to the top daily credit earners in the tournament to add to the fun and excitement on the floor and to keep the action constantly lively.

Celebrating Women's Month @SterKinekor #SouthAfrica #August

The month of August is synonymous with celebrating women in South Africa, and Ster-Kinekor has the perfect way for women everywhere to celebrate this special month. Connect with your girlfriends, mothers and sisters, and spend some quality time together, while enjoying a feel-good film with some of Hollywood’s famous leading ladies. The great line-up of films releasing to celebrate Women’s Month this August, include: Woman in Gold that released on 31 July; Lila & Eve releasing on 07 August; Trainwreck (on 14 August); Paper Towns (21 August); and Mistress America and Ricki & the Flash, both releasing on 04 September. All these great titles promise ‘great moments’ to share, laugh, cry, love and smile together.

Woman in Gold stars Dame Helen Mirren as Maria Altmann, a Holocaust survivor in her eighties now living in Los Angeles. She is trying to recover some of her family’s art that was stolen by the Nazis in Vienna prior to World War II. Together with her young lawyer, E. Randolf Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), she decides to take on the government of Austria and fights them for almost a decade to reclaim the famous artist Gustav Klimt's iconic painting of her aunt, ‘Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I’ – the Woman in Gold of the film’s title. This drama has a running time of 1hr 46mins, and carries a 10-12PG classification. This is an awesome movie and I really loved Helen Mirren in the same.

Lila & Eve is a drama revolving around Lila (Viola Davis), a grief-stricken mother reeling from her son's murder. She attends a support group where she meets Eve (Jennifer Lopez), whose daughter has dies. Eve urges her to take matters into her own hands to track down her son's killers. When the local authorities fail to take any action, the two of them embark on a journey of revenge, but also one of recovery. This film has a running time of 1hr 34mins, and carries a 13LV classification.

Both these thrilling dramas are showing now on the big screen at Ster-Kinekor and Cinema Nouveau cinemas countrywide, and bookings are open.
Trainwreck is a romantic comedy about magazine writer Amy (played by Amy Schumer), whose father drilled it into her head that monogamy is not realistic – as a result, she has made promiscuity her credo by which to live her life. As much as she enjoys an uninhibited life free of commitment, Amy is stuck in a rut. While writing a profile about the charming and successful sports doctor, Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), she finds herself actually falling in love for the first time - and what's more, Aaron seems to like her too. How will this commitment-phobic girl face her fears know that she has met the good guy? Watch this hilarious film at Ster-Kinekor from 14 August to find out!

Another drama, Paper Towns is a coming-of-age story that centres around Quentin (Nat Wolff) and his enigmatic neighbour, Margo (Cara Delevigne), who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears - leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. The search leads Quentin and his quick-witted friends on an exhilarating adventure that is in equal parts both hilarious and moving. Ultimately, to track down Margo, Quentin must find a deeper understanding of what true friendship - and true love – really are.

In Mistress America, Tracy (Lola Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York. She is rescued from her solitude by her soon-to-be stepsister Brooke (Greta Gerwig), an adventurous girl about town who entangles Tracy in alluringly mad schemes. This film is a comedy about dream-chasing, score-settling, makeshift families, and cat-stealing.

Ricki & the Flash stars Meryl Streep as Ricki, an aging rock star who abandons her family to chase fame and stardom. The sacrifice delivers the stardom she craves, but costs her a relationship with her family. After years of rocking with her band, The Flash, her life is interrupted by a call from her ex-husband (Kevin Kline). She discovers their estranged daughter (Mamie Gummer) is going through a tough situation and decides to head back home. Given the opportunity to reconcile and make things right, Ricki must again choose between the music she loves and the family she has lost. Ster-Kinekor is ready to rock you this Women’s Month!
