Donovan Goliath On The Art Of Content Creation #DStvCCA #ContentCreatorAwardsSA

Hi Guys,

This weekend, local content creators are set to be celebrated as the second DStv Content Creator Awards, in association with Samsung, take place in Sandton, Johannesburg. These awards shine a spotlight on South Africa’s greatest creators and thumb-stopping content that has wowed local audiences this year.

As a DStv Content Creator Awards winner himself, and two-time nominee this year, Donovan Goliath steps up as host for what promises to be an incredible evening. As an accomplished comedian, content creator and presenter, Donovan is set to bring his unique charisma, humour, and infectious energy to the stage, making him the perfect choice to guide audiences through an evening filled with creativity, innovation, and celebration. With a successful career spanning over a decade, Donovan is known for his ability to connect with diverse audiences and keep them engaged.

Donovan shares a little bit about his journey in the industry, some advice for up-and-coming creators and how he feels to be hosting this year’s DStv Content Creator Awards.
Donovan Goliath On The Art Of Content Creation #DStvCCA #ContentCreatorAwardsSA
How does it feel to be hosting this year’s DStv Content Creator Awards?
I am super excited for it! I was a winner last year so to come back onto that stage and hold everything together is amazing. I must be honest, I am a little bit nervous as well. You are performing in front of a room of some of the most talented, creative and entertaining people in the country so I have to bring my A-game.

Why do you think platforms like the DStv Content Creator Awards are so important for local creators today?
I think it is a wonderful stamp of approval. I think it gives a lot of young creators a nice boost of confidence, a nice piece of validation and especially because big brands like DStv are backing all of this is just fantastic. It helps with recognition and amplification lets a lot of content creators know that what they are doing is right and encourages us to keep going.

How do you approach a piece of content you create?
My content creation journey always starts with a funny thought or idea that gets fleshed out on paper for a while. Once I have unpacked it and believe it will be funny enough, I will record it and make the necessary edits and final tweaks. I definitely use my stand-up comedy knowledge to create content that is more interesting while combining it with witty visuals.

What is the one piece of advice you have for content creators wanting to take their career further?
It’s really difficult and it takes a really long time so don’t think that success would be something you achieve overnight. That being said, when success does come, be prepared to handle that as people will be expecting a lot from you. You have to put the work in and you have to show up every single day. Authenticity is your friend here. Finally, gear often doesn’t matter – a story is a lot more powerful than shooting on the latest camera.

What do you hope to see happen in the industry going forward?
It would be great to see a lot of the new, young creators given a seat at the table – especially when it comes to advertising and marketing. I feel like we are sharing the same stories and stereotypes recycled over and over but to have people with different perspectives and different relatable insights coming through and sharing their thoughts would be really fantastic.

As the countdown to this year’s DStv Content Creator Awards, in association with Samsung Galaxy begins, fans who didn’t manage to get a ticket to the ceremony can tune into the glitz and glam of the Purple Carpet live on the awards’ TikTok from 18:00-19:00 on Saturday 9 September.

4 reasons Why @NokiaSouth #NokiaG21 is the Perfect Travel companion for your Easter holidays?

Hi Guys,

There is no doubt that technology, such as our reliable smartphones and tablets, has enhanced our daily lives. As Easter comes, you may be considering going away for the long weekend, and your Nokia phone will be an invaluable tool that can assist you with navigation, translation, playing music and providing entertainment during those never-ending road trips.

1. Keep entertained
Car trips can be stressful and long, and creating a Spotify playlist will not only make the travels go faster, but you can also download playlists for each moment - whether a morning hike, an afternoon siesta, or an evening party. Mobile games will keep people of all ages entertained for hours, thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate on the Nokia G21. If games aren't your thing, you can spend the time watching your favourite YouTube "how-to" video, listening to a podcast, or watching a movie.

2. Capture the moments
Too often, after returning home from a pleasant holiday, we discover that we neglected to capture the special moments of the trip. While it is essential to living in the present, it is equally important to cherish memories of time spent with loved ones. Don’t worry about bringing along a camera on your next trip; by using your Nokia G21 you can capture moments with the 50 MP triple-camera and give the pictures the ‘wow factor’ with advanced low light imaging, so you’ll be able to bring all your amazing ideas to life.
4 reasons Why @NokiaSouth #NokiaG21 is the Perfect Travel companion for your Easter holidays?
3. Feel assured
Everyone has been there. We've packed our belongings, are in the car, and then it occurs to us that our charger is still plugged in at home. And with our phones, an integral part of our lives, being without a device for even a few hours can create unnecessary stress. While you might be able to make preparations to stop and buy a new charger along the way, with the Nokia G21, you can relax a little more because the battery life can last up to three days* and it also comes with 18W fast charge capability¹.

4. Work remotely (if need be)
The roads during the Easter weekend can be extremely congested, so you may wish to leave a day or two earlier and, if your job allows it, work remotely, allowing you to avoid traffic and enjoy an extra day holiday. The Nokia G21’s 6.5” screen is ideal for mobile business, video calling, and pitch presentations.

Ensure that time spent with family and friends is cherished and enjoyable and let your Nokia phone experience simply enhance every moment.

Thanks for your time, Aashish

Cheers!!!

It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like #Christmas... on @SpotifySA #SpotifySouthAfrica

Hi Friends,

With more than 21 million Christmas-themed playlists on Spotify, it’s safe to say our listeners have a healthy appetite for holiday music.

But how early do they start listening to it? Depending on where you are in the world, there’s a good chance you’ve already begun.

Most countries start to hit play on holiday hits in November, with the first big spike in listening happening around December 1st. (We’ve determined that a country is officially festive once Christmas tracks make up more than 2 percent of all listening in the region).

According to our data, the Philippines is always first out of the gate and cranks up the Yuletide tunes as early as September. Makes sense; the country kicks off a bevy of Christmas-related festivities that month. And while Filipinos can’t get enough of holiday songs from Michael Bublé, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande this time of year, they also love local veteran singer Jose Mari Chan, whose song “Christmas In Our Hearts” is a favorite in the region.

But not everyone is impatient for Christmas music; some countries like Argentina and Uruguay wait until Christmas Day itself to start listening.

(For an embeddable graphic representation of how streaming kicks into high gear around the world based on 2017 data, go here).

New Ways To Creatively Express Yourself @SpotifySA #Music #SpotifySouthAfrica

Hi Friends,

In 2018, gone are the days of handwritten love letters, sitting hunched over a radio playing a tug of war between ‘record’ and ‘stop’ to create the perfect mixtape, or diligently copying down the lyrics of a favourite song to share with someone special.

While technology may have taken us into a new era there is no reason why we still can’t express our feelings creatively, especially with the rise of music streaming services like Spotify, which have made listening to and sharing music simpler and less time consuming.

While the modern-day mixtape may take on the form of a specially curated playlist - now you can take this a step further by creating a playlist that spells out exactly how you feel or want to say simply using song titles.

Whether you want to ask someone out, apply for a job (this could work as a great covering letter), pop the question, announce there’s a baby on the way, help a friend through a tough time or simply let someone special know you’re thinking of them – the options are endless, and with a catalogue of over 35 million tracks on Spotify there’s a song to spell out any message.
New Ways To Creatively Express Yourself @SpotifySA #Music #SpotifySouthAfrica
To get you started, if you want to tell someone how much you love them, pick a few song titles that spell out how you feel and arrange them in a playlist to form one beautiful sentence.

Have some fun with your love note. Once you have created a new playlist, add a fun description of the compilation by leaving some blanks, in the description, in the form of numbers so that the recipient fills in the missing words using the associated song titles in the playlist, to read out the love note.

For example, spell out the message in the description placeholder using the playlist below:

‘’I really want to share this with 1 (the one I love) as you are the 2 (love of my life) and I know that I was 3 (made for you) because I really 4 (can’t help falling in love), this is just 5 (the way you make me feel) always!’’

1. The One I Love – R.E.M
2. Love Of My Life - Queen
3. Made For You – Banky W
4. Can’t Help Falling In Love – Elvis Presley
5. The Way You Make Me Feel – Michael Jackson

Take it one step further and pop the big question with a creative playlist proposal.

Title your playlist: I have a question for you? And indicate in the descriptor that the song titles spell out a message, then list the tracks in the following order and share the link to the playlist with your significant other. Turn it into a collaborative playlist and eagerly await the answer.

· I Just Called to Say I Love You
· You’re the One that I want
· Spend My Life With You
· I Have a Question
· Marry Me
· What’s your Answer?

On @SpotifySA Playlists Have No Borders - Broadening Reach for Local Artists #SpotifySouthAfrica

Hi Friends,

The launch of Spotify, the largest global music streaming subscription service, into South Africa in March provided a ‘game-changing’ opportunity for the local music industry, according to Claudius Boller, Spotify MD for Middle East & Africa.

Globally, Spotify has enhanced the way artists connect with music fans by introducing individual artists and their music to millions of people around the world. With a worldwide community of over 180 million music fans across 65 countries, the introduction of Spotify to the South African market extends the potential global reach for local artists. The benefits of having a dedicated local music curator on board for South Africa has ensured that local artists are supported across Spotify - promoting these artists to a broad audience who otherwise may not have been exposed to South African talent.

This was the case with South African megastar AKA, where tracks from his latest sell-out album Touch My Blood, featured on global Spotify playlist We Everywhere. To date, AKA’s Beyoncé track holds the highest first-day streaming record for a South African single, in the country.

A key feature of Spotify’s commitment to artists and their careers is Spotify for Artists, a powerful free resource for artists and their managers to track the global performance of their music in real time. In this way, artists can better understand and build their audiences, with invaluable statistical data and insights into who is listening to their music, which music is performing the best, and where those fans are located.
On @SpotifySA Playlists Have No Borders - Broadening Reach for Local Artists #SpotifySouthAfrica
With this resource, artists can access a range of analytics including; the demographics of their listening audience, listeners’ anonymized geographical locations, similar artists that their fans listen to, the number of real-time listeners, song performance data, playlist data and playlist notifications.

Spotify for Artists provides the analytical support that artists need to optimize their performance and focus on doing what they do best - creating music to share with fans around the world. This data provides strategic insight to direct how artists promote themselves and the potential to explore different market and audiences based on who is listening to their music.

The latest data reflects that local artists such as DJ Maphorisa have more Spotify listeners in Paris, Toronto, London, Montreal, and New York than in Johannesburg while most of Babes Wodumo’s Spotify listeners come from Los Angeles, London, Mexico City, Chicago, and New York. Nasty C’s key Spotify listenership originates from Paris, Toronto, London, Montreal, and New York, with additional listeners in Japan and Mexico, which certainly helped propel his latest track King to the spot of second highest first-day streaming record for a South African track since launch. Most streamed South African female artist Shekhinah, also has listeners in the US, Canada, and Sweden among her top 10 listener countries. Overall Jeremy Loops is the most streamed South African artist since launching.*

Educational empowerment is a key focus of the Spotify for Artists platform, with a host of useful and informative video and editorial content to better understand Spotify, music streaming and the music industry in general. The Spotify community, made up of industry experts and musicians, has a wealth of music industry knowledge. To ensure this knowledge is accessible to artists at all stages of their career, Spotify for Artists launched The Game Plan, an original video drawing on the expertise of the Spotify community, to provide tips, tools, and strategies that can help artists build their careers, both on and off the Spotify platform.

The Spotify for Artists platform launched in April 2017 and has since expanded to include a variety of new features and analytics updates and is constantly improving and developing new products and services to better suit the needs of artists at all stages of their career. The Spotify for Artists app also recently launched on both iOS and Android platforms, improving the real-time access for artists allowing them to directly control their profiles from their phones, wherever they are.

Download the Spotify app via the Android or iOS app store or by heading to www.spotify.com - to embed Spotify into a website - right click on any playlist, go to 'share' and copy the embed code.

All Roads Lead to #OppiKoppi, Take the Music with You @SpotifySA #SpotifySouthAfrica

Hi Friends,

One of South Africa’s biggest multi-day music festival, OppiKoppi is coming up, and as any festival veteran will tell you it’s essential to get yourself Oppi ready beforehand.

While your survival pack should include a strong flashlight, sunscreen, a bandana mouth/nose guard against the dust and a great pair of plastic wellies for when the dust turns to mud, the key ingredient to a great weekend is assembling your top squad to share in the fun.

For most of the 20 000 strong crowds the journey to Oppi is based on how quickly you can get there and get the party started. This time round turn your Oppi drive into a scenic road trip by journeying through one of the country’s best road trips routes - the Valley Route - and start the Oppi experience as soon as you get on the road.

Start off your journey by creating a Spotify playlist, featuring some of the OppiKoppi Nomakanjani 2018 line-ups, gearing up for what’s ahead.
All Roads Lead to #OppiKoppi, Take the Music with You @SpotifySA #SpotifySouthAfrica
With multi-stages during the 3-day festival, the best part of Oppi is the range of musical talent available, with something for everyone. From favorites to discovering new artists, the 2018 line-up includes award-winning rapper Kwesta, legendary rock band Wonderboom, electronic music sensation GoodLuck, alternate Afrikaans rock band, Fokofpolisiekar, skater kid turned electronic music producer Muzi and more including the 2018 tribute artist, iconic Zimbabwean human right activist and musician extraordinaire, Oliver Mtukudzi.

All users can enjoy listening to some of the 2018 OppiKoppi artists in the line-up for free on Spotify. And if you have upgraded to Spotify Premium, then you can download your playlists to listen offline wherever and whenever you are and don’t need to worry about adverts interrupting your listening. Consider creating a collaborative playlist (click the ‘more button’ (…) and select the collaborative playlist, make sure there is a tick next to it, you have the option to share your playlist as a link), where everyone can contribute their musical choices.

Best of all, the weekend doesn’t need to end as you drive through the gates. It’s easy to update and add to the playlist ensuring your journey home with some great Oppi memories.

Alternatively, you can take a listen to the already curated The Sound of OppiKoppi playlist, with

Spotify delivers music for every taste and mood. South African users have instant access to a wide range of local playlists expertly curated and regularly updated by our team of music experts, including Hip Hop Juice, Top Hits South Africa, House Nation, iGqom Le and SA Gold, alongside millions of Spotify and fan-built international playlists.

Unique music personalization and discovery features
A major feature of the Spotify service is its personalization, which allows fans to find the music they already love with ease, and will also help them discover new music and artists to love, based on their taste and listening patterns. When a new user joins Spotify, we take them through a ‘Taste Onboarding’ process, which helps Spotify quickly learn more about your music tastes.

Personalised discovery features including Daily Mix (a series of playlists combining your favourite tracks with new songs we think you’ll love), Release Radar (a playlist of new music based on the artists you follow and listen to most, updated every Friday) and Discover Weekly (a playlist based on your unique listening habits - coming soon) mean you’re never more than a moment away from the music you love.

Music Streaming: The Now of Digital Marketing @EclipsePR

Hi Guys,

In today’s competitive world, brands are tapping into new ways of becoming more accessible and relevant to their consumers. Some are turning to music streaming networks to differentiate themselves from their competition. They realise that the way we listen to and acquire music is always changing. This can prove to be another tool in their arsenal to gain more customers.

“Music streaming services see millions of music lovers signing up daily. From Apple Music to Spotify, the online music sphere has become a platform for brands wanting to connect with individuals that they would otherwise have not been targeting,” says Jacki McEwen, Co-owner & Managing Director at Eclipse Public Relations.

Leading the front line in company curated playlists is Spotify. This platform is one of the largest music steaming services in the world. It was established before Apple Music, or even Tidal for that matter, were a twinkle in their creators’ eye.

For the past couple of years, businesses have been working on innovative projects in the hopes of building their brand and strengthening their relationship with consumers. This involves the creation of playlists that suit a brand’s style and image.
Music Streaming: The Now of Digital Marketing @EclipsePR
The Big Four: The benefits of music streaming for business
A music streaming strategy for brands goes hand in hand with social media tactics. There are four main benefits of music streaming that Senior Vice President of Pandora’s Strategic Solutions, Heidi Browning, identified in an article written for The Drum:

1) Engagement: Music streaming services enable consumers to create a personalised experience. In doing so, they have created an audience that is constantly engaging with these platforms through creating content unique to their interests. It has been reported by Vevo that millennials are spending on average 25 hours a week streaming music. If brands want to reach Generation Z, they need to be in tune with the streaming market.

2) Attention: We live in what is known as the “earbud generation”. What does this mean for marketers? While most adverts are focused on what we can see, what people hear commands more attention, as the brain can only focus on one auditory process at a time.

3) Context: Streaming music has made it easier for brands to reach their audiences without interrupting them. Listening to music has become a daily activity in the lives of many people and brands can only benefit from using these platforms to reach their target markets. Consumers use music for a variety of different reasons, often based on their moods. If brands can tap into a genre or theme of music, they can reach the right the people simply by aligning themselves with the right platform or playlist.

4) Resonance: Nielsen Catalina Solutions reported that audio is the most effective channel in delivering a Return On Investment (ROI). These platforms give brands the opportunity to interact with their customers in an environment that Browning calls “emotionally and contextually relevant” which sends a message that resonates with their consumers.

Music streaming platforms are inter-aligning themselves with the same practices that they offer businesses. Streaming platforms are turning to lucrative partnerships with artists to increase their subscriptions. They are using their own spaces within these platforms to draw in a very eager consumer. With almost 30 million subscribers signing up to streaming platforms, music streaming has changed the way we listen to and experience music.

Music streaming has allowed for the creation of a database that brands can pull from. With each playlist being made to the fancy of the consumer, it has become easy for brands to find their target market on these streaming platforms. Imagine an entire database of people that fit your brand that you can access purely by aligning with the right platform. By creating a playlist, you can get your brand’s name into the ears of a generation that is constantly listening to music.

“The digital era of music is constantly growing and expanding. It’s impossible to think of what could be next, but in 10 years’ time we could be listening to music in unexpected new ways. In order for brands to stay relevant, they need to embrace what these platforms have to offer. They are the now of media and the now of marketing,” concludes McEwen.

Google Cast Now On #BeoPlay Speakers @BangOlufsenSA

Hi Guys,

B&O PLAY has announced a partnership with Google to bring Google CastTM to B&O PLAY’s in-market and future range of network speakers. All network speakers will have Google Cast built-in and will be available at the end of Q1 2016.

Google Cast lets you enjoy music streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn on your network speakers. You simply tap the Cast button on your favorite mobile music app to start playing music from your B&O PLAY network speakers.

“Having the ability to connect music seamlessly to speakers has always been integral to B&O PLAY’s success. With Google Cast, you can enjoy music directly from the cloud instead of playing music from your device, which gives premium audio quality and ensures that incoming calls or texts do not disrupt the music listening experience. We believe that freedom of choice in streaming technologies is increasingly important to consumers, so we are proud to bring Google Cast to our network speakers”, says Corporate VP of B&O PLAY Henrik Taudorf Lorensen.

The two in-market network speakers from B&O PLAY, the BeoPlay A6 and the second-generation BeoPlay A9, are already compatible with the Google Cast technology. Google Cast will be available via a software update at the end of Q1 2016. Besides Google Cast, B&O PLAY’s network speakers support Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth, making it possible to choose between various streaming technologies.
