HUAWEI Jacaranda Day Captured by #HuaweiP60Pro Celebrates the Beautiful Array of Languages and Genres of Music that Mzansi has to Offer!

Hi Guys,

Two major lifestyle brands - HUAWEI and Jacaranda FM - set Idlewinds Country Estate on fire this past Saturday. Thousands joined the music festival where Mzansi’s biggest artists like Early B, Refentse, Goodluck, Matthew Mole, Mafikizolo, and Martin Bester and his Band entertained families from morning to night.

Crowds were ushered to their feet by Jacaranda FM presenters throughout the day, bringing the familiar voices heard on Jacaranda FM every day, to a full day of interaction with their favourite on-air personalities.

Here’s what some of the artists on the line-up had to say about the show:
“The best part about HUAWEI Jacaranda Day is that we feed off the energy of the crowd, and the crowd this year was incredibly energetic and hungry for a music festival that creates such a diverse line-up of artists. Die gees was amazing!” - Jo Black

“This was our very first time performing at HUAWEI Jacaranda Day. What we loved about this event is that it’s a family event, it’s always nice to have an event where you can bring your friends, your family, your uncles and cousins, and everyone. I hope this continues next year thank you for inviting Mafikizolo – the crowd was amaaaaaazing” - Mafikizolo

“I really enjoyed showing people a different side of myself with my set. There’s no crowd like the Jacaranda FM crowd!” - Rob Forbes

“Jacaranda Day was awesome gewees – ek het a roomys by een van my fans gekry – so sweet en dankie! Dis ń great event, met wonderlike fans, dankie aan almal wat gekom het” - Karlien van Jaarsveld

“Jacaranda Day is always my favourite event of the year without a doubt and I missed it so so much. The HUAWEI Jacaranda Day was just something special this year. The love and vibe we felt on stage were indescribable, especially when you see everyone singing along, the sea of faces smiling and waving their hands in that air, just coming together for the love of music and the love of families. I met so many amazing listeners and just spending the day with everyone was truly special” - Martin Bester

“Jacaranda Day was Amazing! Everyone showed up very early on in the day and the energy was high. So grateful to have been on a power line-up with Jacaranda FM” – Mathew Mole

"I am blown away by Pretoria and Johannesburg. 10 000 people have filled up Jacaranda Day! The energy and the vibe is out of this world and I am so impressed that the city supports live music on the scale that it does! We had the best time on stage!" - Jules Harding of Goodluck.

“What a collaboration between HUAWEI and Jacaranda FM. A powerhouse communications technology brand like HUAWEI collaborating with a radio station as beloved as Jacaranda FM, set the barometer for creating a magical musical festival.” comments Deirdre King, Managing Director of Jacaranda FM.

HUAWEI and Jacaranda FM invited other big artists Demi Lee Moore, DJ Kent and Prime Circle to energise the crowds with familiar favourites and new melodies that got families on their feet.

“What an incredible vibe at Jacaranda Day 2023 – We had thousands of people come early, the weather was great, and it was incredible to see how music can bring people together across cultures and barriers, and technology does the same thing and it was an ideal partnership for HUAWEI and Jacaranda FM and we look forward to even more for 2024 and years to come” says Mr Akhram Mohamed, Vice President – Operation HUAWEI Consumer Business Group South Africa.

Martin Bester’s #Kissing Experience - Is Kissing for Every Culture? @JacarandaFM

Hi Friends,

A kiss, a smooch, a soentjie or whatever you call it – some cultures either embrace or loathe this act of affection. Martin Bester went on a kissing prank at the Jacaranda FM studios today and amongst those pranked were The Late Show host, Carla Mackenzie and Liesl Laurie, Saturday Breakfast Show host (former Miss South Africa and World 2015) who gave Martin a run for his money and smooched him right back!

For many, kissing comes with one’s culture and Carla shares the same sentiments. She’s a lover at heart and quite generous with hugs to close friends and colleagues – when it comes to family, she also prefers an endearing kiss. In South Africa, grandparents and other close relatives embrace one another with kisses on the lips to show their affection.

Check out Martin’s ‘soen-groet’ prank here

According to some cultures, kissing on the lips is reserved for people who are romantically involved or shared between close relatives.
Martin Bester’s #Kissing Experience - Is Kissing for Every Culture?
Here are some interesting kissing global facts:
  • The first on-screen kiss was shot in 1896 by the Edison Company. Titled The May Irwin-John C. Rice Kiss, the film was 30 seconds long and consisted entirely of a man and a woman kissing close up.
  • French kissing involves 34 facial muscles. A pucker kiss involves only two
  • The Romans created three categories of kissing: (1) Osculum, a kiss on the cheek, (2) Basium, a kiss on the lips, and (3) Savolium, a deep kiss.
  • Kissing may have originated when mothers orally passed chewed solid food to their infants during weaning.
  • Kissing at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony can be traced to ancient Roman tradition where a kiss was used to sign contract.

Everyone was prepared to shake off their winter blues in 5km, 8km and 15km walks, and this year’s new addition of an 8km run for those who wanted to push their limits. Festivities kicked-off bright and early with Jacaranda FM’s Thabiso 'Mack' Rapapali and Carla McKenzie firing the opening shot for the 15km race.

With Discovery as a partner, this meant participants also earned Vitality points for their participation in the SpringWalk. “The partnership with Jacaranda FM is a perfect fit for us as it brings out the core values of both businesses”, said Discovery’s Head of Sponsorships and Experiential Marketing, Iona Maclean.

After the morning’s healthy exercise, Dewald Wasserfall and Rubber Duc rocked the crowds, while others gathered in front of the big screens to catch the rugby championship clash between Australia and the Springboks. South African celebrities and fitness experts were spotted enroute. These included our very own former Miss South Africa, Liesl Laurie; Gavin Edward and the Bulls Rugby players who all enjoyed watching the rugby match. While parents enjoyed the stellar line-up, Spar kiddies’ area surely kept the little ones occupied.

United We Walk - @JacarandaFM Spring Walk 2015 @Discovery_SA

Hi Guys,

A record number of people took to the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens for the Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk 2015. Pretoria’s favourite family walk saw many smiling faces in their Jacaranda FM colours complete their 5, 8 and 15km walk. It's always great to walk and enjoy it with your friends and families.
Growing from 10000 walkers at the inaugural Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk in 2012 to the 15000 participants this 2015 event hosted with aplomb.
Jacaranda FM General Manager, Kevin Fine, elated by the success of Saturday’s event said “Seeing the Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk grow to what it is today is testament to the Jacaranda FM listener’s enthusiasm to be a part of the Jacaranda family and we are grateful to the public for making the event the resounding success it was.”
The theme for this year’s walk was ‘United We Walk’ and walkers came out in large numbers to enjoy the serenity of the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens. The day concluded with one of South Africa’s favourites, Kurt Darren, who kept the crowd entertained as everyone soaked up the last bits Spring Walk 2015 and Jacaranda City had to offer.
Keep Walking daily to have a great health and buy a fitness band if you want to track the steps and calories burnt. This will help you to keep you motivated as well as a reminder to carry on walking.

Cheers!!!
