@SamsungMobileSA Newest 108Mp Mobile Image Sensor with Advanced Features @SamsungSA

Hi Friends,

Samsung ISOCELL HM3 comes in 0.8µm and with nine-pixel binning, providing optimum brightness and enhanced auto-focusing Smart ISO Pro and Super PD Plus fine-tune the sensor’s performance for premium mobile imaging experiences

Samsung, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced its latest 108-megapixel (Mp) mobile image sensor, Samsung ISOCELL HM3. With a wide spectrum of advanced sensor technologies, the HM3 can capture sharper and more vivid images in ultra-high resolution with faster auto-focus and extended dynamic range.

“While a pixel is just a single dot of colour when in millions, these dots can be transformed into stunning snapshots of life. With more pixels, images are sharper, with fuller details that can maintain their integrity even when enlarged. Samsung has been at the forefront of bringing the most pixels to mobile image sensors as well as various supporting technologies that take sensor performances to the next level,” said Duckhyun Chang, executive vice president of the sensor business at Samsung Electronics. “The ISOCELL HM3 is the culmination of Samsung’s latest sensor technologies that will help deliver premium mobile experiences to today’s smart-device users.”

The 1/1.33” ISOCELL HM3 with 0.8μm-sized pixels is a new addition to Samsung ISOCELL’s 108Mp product line-up. For faster auto-focus, the HM3 integrates an improved Super PD Plus feature. Super PD Plus adds AF-optimised micro-lenses over the phase-detection focusing agents, increasing measurement accuracy of the agents by 50-per cent. The enhanced phase-detection autofocusing (PDAF) solution helps to keep moving subjects in sharp focus and delivers optimum results in dark environments.

In mixed-light environments, such as at the end of a tunnel, the HM3 adopts Smart ISO Pro, a high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging technology that uses an intra-scene dual conversion gain (iDCG) solution. Smart ISO Pro simultaneously captures a frame in both high and low ISO, then merges them into a single image in 12-bit colour depth and with reduced noise. As Smart ISO Pro does not require multiple exposure shots to create a standard HDR image, it can significantly reduce motion artefacts. In addition, with a low-noise mode, it improves the light sensitivity by 50-per cent to capture brighter and clearer results in low-light environments than its predecessor.

The HM3’s pixel layout is specially arranged in three-by-three single colour structures suitable for nine-pixel binning. By merging nine neighbouring pixels, the 108Mp HM3 mimics a 12Mp image sensor with large 2.4μm-pixels, heightening light sensitivity when taking photographs in low-light environments. With an improved binning hardware IP, the HM3 supports seamless transitions between 108Mp and 12Mp resolutions.

Designs of the new sensor have also been optimised to reduce energy usage under preview mode by 6.5-per cent, offering added power efficiency to the overall mobile device.

Samsung ISOCELL HM3 is currently in mass production.

Actual performance may vary depending on the device and user environment.

* Samsung first announced its ISOCELL technology in 2013, which reduces colour crosstalk between pixels by placing a physical barrier, allowing small-sized pixels to achieve higher colour fidelity. Based on this technology, Samsung introduced the industry’s first 1.0um-pixel image sensor in 2015 and a 0.9-pixel sensor in 2017. Samsung continues to enhance its pixel isolation methods with ISOCELL Plus and the ISOCELL 2.0 technologies.

Cheers!!!

Product Review - @LGMobileSA V20 Android #Smartphone @LGSouthAfrica #PlayMore

Hi Friends,

Continuing the trend of posting a product review everyday in these months, I am finishing reviews of all the devices I have received but could not due to time issues or work pressure. I do apologize to all the brands for the same but sometimes you gets lost in the ROI calculations or the value which you are getting in return from the brands. Here I am going to discuss an amazing android smartphone, which came to me a long time back and I simply adored the camera and the hardware it has on it.

We are talking about the revolutionary LG Mobile V20 also called as LGH990 and this is after I had extensively used LG G5 and fell in love with it's camera and gaming capabilities along with modular design. LG V20 the first thing I loved was it's dual camera which is 16MP standard (normal 75 degree camera) and 8MP wide 135 degree camera lens which is just in continuation of the LG G5 cameras. But with LG V20 the front camera which is 5MP also offered wide (120 degree) and standard (83 degree) selfies mechanisms. More than this hardware on the device, there are many hybrid auto focus which utilizes LDAF (Laser Detection Auto Focus), PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and Contrast AF technologies to capture every moment of fun.

The second feature I loved in LG V20 is it's Second Screen on the top portion of the smartphone which can be used independently to showcase and access recent apps, quick tools and shortcuts. I simply loved writing my name on the second screen in a cursive font making it a unique feature to the overall smartphone. Also the second screen option offers quick replies to text messages if you are involved in other applications like any games or so.

LG V20 Smartphone is loaded with Android Nougat Operating system (7.0) and powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset which a Quad-Core 2.1 GHz processor which never slows down the smartphone. The RAM on the V20 is 4GB which is enough to handle all kinds of applications and resolution of the 5.7 inch screen is 2560 x 1440 QHD at 515ppi. The device weights around 173 grams and has removable battery of 3200mAh. The smartphone also offers expendable storage capacity via micro-sd card upto 2TB and works on a nano-SIM to connect to 4G LTE network. The internal memory that this smartphone offers is 64GB which is enough to fit into your daily needs.

LG Electronics went way more advanced in terms of video and audio capabilities on this smartphone. Let's talk about the video features first as this smartphone comes with Steady Record 2.0 which can minimize the unintentional hand shaking to capture sharp, smooth and crisp videos. We can think of Steady Record as the smartphone Gimble but on the smartphone rather than external handle.

Along with this the smartphone LG V20 gives you power to manually record videos and customize your sound so as to eliminate noise and amplify the story and moments you want to capture. This is done using 3 High AOP (Acoustic Overload Point) Mics which is claimed by LG that it can record loud scenes at sporting events without cheering fans distorting the sound. The 2 mics are on the top of the smartphone and one is at the bottom. The audio files can be then saved in lossless audio format with Hi-Fi Recording. LG V20 also offers HD Audio Recorder and Studio modes to take your audio recording to the next level. In the manual mode for video's you can adjust the white balance, ISO, shutter speed, EV, Auto-exposure Lock, manual and auto focus along with Hi-Fi audio at 24 bit, 49kHz. With so many features you will feel like a director of the movie and even can become one when phone is operated on your voice commands using Audio Directivity Control.

Captured the Flames and the red essence on the end of burning woods too
LG V20 also features Quad DAC which lets you listen to music that’s closer to the original sound by reducing white noise and up-sampling music files to Hi-Fi quality—allowing you to feel like you’re at a live performance. The package also contains special LG noise-isolating earphones and if you are buying the smartphone, I think you get Bang and Olufsen earphones too. My review unit only has LG earphones along with a fast charger and type-C charging cable. The smartphone feels great in the hands with its sleek metal body and easy to reach fingerprint scanner on the back cover to lock and unlock the phone easily. The back cover can be taken off to insert the battery or the micro-SD card using a small button on the right hand side of the phone.

@SamsungSA Elevates #Smartphone #Camera Quality With New Image Sensor #GalaxyS7

Hi Guys,

Samsung Electronics South Africa, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, announced its newest 12 megapixel (Mp) image sensor for smartphones, which will elevate the quality of mobile phone pictures. Already in mass production, this 1.4μm-pixel-based image sensor is equipped with Dual Pixel technology that has been reserved for digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. The technology enables rapid auto-focus for fast photo shooting while producing premium image quality on mobile devices, even in low light situations.

“With 12 million pixels working as a phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) agent, the new image sensor adds professional auto-focus performance to mobile devices, such as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 5,” said Craige Fleischer, Director of Integrated Mobility at Samsung Electronics South Africa. “Consumers will be able to capture their daily events and precious moments instantly on a smartphone, regardless of lighting conditions.”

Samsung’s new image sensor with Dual Pixel technology employs two photodiodes located on the left and right halves of a pixel. The conventional image sensor commits less than five percent of its pixels, with only one photodiode each, which converts light particles into measurable photocurrent for phase detection. Significantly faster auto-focus is now possible, as each and every pixel of the Dual Pixel image sensor is capable of detecting phase differences of perceived light. With such groundbreaking improvements, the image sensor ensures clear and sharp images, especially whilst capturing moving objects, even in poor lighting conditions.

The new image sensor has also adopted Samsung’s ISOCELL technology, which isolates the photodiodes in each pixel with a physical wall to further reduce colour bleeding, maximizing the image sensor’s performance.

The new image sensor is built with cutting-edge, chip-stacking technology that allows for top-of-the-line performance while keeping the size small. The Dual Pixel image sensor combines a 65 nanometer (nm) sensor with a 28nm logic chip that delivers outstanding quality photos in a sleek smartphone design.

I am amazed at the camera of S6 I used last year and I have just received Samsung's S7 Edge for review and using that camera I will post pictures on my instagram channel.

Cheers!!!
