Stationery Review 273 - LAMY AL-star Lilac Fountain Pen (ZAR 749)

Hi Friends,

I bought this Lamy Al-Star Lilac Fountain Pen from Writegear in Cape Town during their annual pen day sale. The same is priced at ZAR 749 currently. This is my first Al-star and third fountain pen in the Lamy Range of Fountain pens. The nibs I got in my Lamy Safari were Extra-Fine, Lamy LX was Medium, and now I have taken Fine. Check it out!

Stationery Review 273 - LAMY AL-star Lilac Fountain Pen (ZAR 749)

I really love Lamy pens and totally fell in love with the Lamy Al-Star metallic range of fountain pens. It's my dream to have all the kinds of Lamy pen range from ball pens, roller gel pens, pencil and fountain pen as well.

Stationery Review 272 - Harley-Davidson Waterman Ball Pen

Hi Friends,

I bought this Harley-Davidson Motorcycles-branded pen, which is powered by Waterman. This is a ballpoint pen with the same kind of refill that we saw in our Waterman Hemisphere ball pen as well. The ink colour in this one is blue. It's really a collector's pen and I really love the same. Check it out.

Stationery Review 272 - Harley-Davidson Waterman Ball Pen

I am a fan of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and just watching them run on the road is also amazing. I came across a guy who told me various symbols when they drive in a motorcade. The pen is made really great as I can feel that the plastic inside is also a top-grade one. Waterman is going to be my favourite pen in the coming days.

Stationery Review 271 - Waterman Hemisphere Pen & Pencil Gift Set

Hi Friends,

I bought this Waterman Hemisphere Pen & Pencil Gift Set in the brushed steel version, which is really a nice-looking set for USD 90 that as written on the package, but the date of packaging is unknown to me. I really loved the same. Writing with the same shows quality products from Waterman Paris.

Stationery Review 271 - Waterman Hemisphere Pen & Pencil Gift Set

This is my first Waterman-branded product after a long while rather since childhood when I had one from my uncle. This product feels so great in your hands that you will immediately fall in love. I have really loved the twist mechanism on the pencil. This is a mechanism I have never seen in my previous pencils.

Stationery Review 270 - Hello Kitty 120 Sheets Tin by Sanrio Japan

Hi Friends,

I got this one for my daughter, who used to love Hello Kitty. These are 120 sheets of paper in two colours - pink and blue. They all come with the Hello Kitty logo printed on one side, and the back side is plain. The paper is of good quality, as we have experimented with all kinds of pens we have.

Hello Kitty is really popular amongst kids, and I have seen so many products, from bags to pens to dresses, all with this brand. Sanrio Japan makes really cool stationery products.

Stationery Review 269 - Parker Folio Fountain Pen (F) INR 450

Hi Friends,

I bought this Parker Folio Fountain Pen in India for INR 450, thinking it would be better than the Parker Vector Fountain Pen. It's a pen that is only to showcase rather than to write because, somehow, the quality has disappointed me for sure. I never felt like that, even with the Parker Jotter Kensington Fountain Pen as well as the Parker Vector, which I have been using for more than 20 years now, the same pen. Check it out!

Stationery Review 269 - Parker Folio Fountain Pen (F) INR 450

Parker Folio has been manufactured to take on the Indian markets, but there are better pens out there in this price range. Only if you are enthusiastic to get the steel body design, then you will be attracted to the same, but then the grip and feed section has only 3-4 threads, which, as told by one of the viewers it died very quickly on his Parker Folio pen. I also don't intend to keep this pen, and I will give it to someone who is celebrating their birthday etc.

Stationery Review 268 - Kokuyo Enpitsu Sharp (0.3mm) Mechanical Pencils

Hi Friends,

I got these mechanical pencils from my cousin sister, who lives in Japan. Thanks to her for the same, and these were for the kids in my family, but none of them showed any kind of respect to them, so it all came back to me. Here I am, reviewing these pencils for your entertainment and educational purposes. Check it out!

Stationery Review 268 - Kokuyo Enpitsu Sharp (0.3mm) Mechanical Pencils

I really loved these Kokuyo mechanical pencils in 0.3mm lead. Though these are lightweight, but need a little bit of care to write with, as the lead breaks immediately if you press a little harder on the page. I also liked the design of these pencils as they look lovely in your hands. Japan has some of the best stationery products in the world and I can't wait to be there to check them in person.

Stationery Review 267 - 3 Pen Stand Made by 3D Printer (Temu) ZAR 120

Hi Friends,

I bought this 3D printed pen stand from Temu for around ZAR 120, including shipping and customs fees. It's a normal 3D printed pen stand available in 2 colours - white and black. I think white would have looked better, but sometimes the plastic thread is not really white, so I am not so sure about that. The black one is okay, but the pens of the same colour feel invisible. It doesn't shine the pens, but the pens do keep it in place. This is really very lightweight. Check it out!

I do like it for the easy option to pick up your pen, pencil or fountain pen whenever ideas strike you. Your beautiful pens will be right in front of you in their full beauty. I did like it for that matter only.

I bought these Deli Sticky Notes in Kraft paper design from Mellows Stationery Shop F09 in China Mall for ZAR 5 each at the sale price. The same is priced at around ZAR 10 for retail. It's really nice notes and different from all the ones we have previously showcased to you.

HUAWEI Pura 80 Series arrives in South Africa with next-level photography and head-turning design

Hi Friends,
  • Huawei Pura 80 Series lands in South Africa with a powerful one-inch camera sensor
  • Capture brilliance day and night with the new Huawei Pura 80 Series
  • Huawei unveils the Pura 80 Series in South Africa, delivering a new era of smartphone photography
HUAWEI has officially launched the Pura 80 Series in South Africa, introducing a new chapter in flagship smartphone photography. Building on the company’s long-standing heritage in imaging innovation, the Pura 80 Series delivers one of the most advanced mobile camera systems on the market today. Its 1-inch sensor isn’t just about size; it’s backed by Huawei’s proprietary RYYB colour array, which allows for up to 40% more light intake than traditional sensors. The result is breathtaking clarity, even in low light or high-contrast scenes.

As part of the recently refreshed Pura Series, the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro makes a bold statement by being the only non-Ultra smartphone in the industry to feature a 1-inch Ultra Lighting Camera. This breakthrough in sensor technology allows for exceptional light intake, dramatically improving image quality in both bright and low-light environments.

“With the launch of the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro, we’re setting a new standard for mobile photography in South Africa and putting a photography studio in your pocket,” says Peter Feng, CEO CBG at Huawei Technologies South Africa. “It’s an uncompromising device that offers professional-grade imaging capabilities in a beautifully crafted handset.”

The Pura 80 Pro’s camera system rivals traditional DSLR performance in surprising ways. Thanks to Super HDR capabilities and Huawei’s physically adjustable aperture, users can manage light and depth like professionals, whether shooting portraits against sunlight or filming in fast-changing indoor-outdoor settings. Combined with the high dynamic range, it delivers nuanced details that typical smartphone cameras often miss.

See brilliance in every shot
The Pura 80 Pro’s imaging system is headlined by a 50MP Ultra Lighting Camera with a 1-inch RYYB sensor and 10-stop variable aperture (F1.6–F4.0), delivering unparalleled control over depth, lighting and mood. Whether you’re capturing the glow of the city at night or the warmth of a candlelit dinner, the camera intelligently adjusts to suit your subject, providing superior clarity and atmospheric detail.

The camera array also includes a 48MP Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera with a large F2.1 aperture and optical image stabilisation, along with a 40MP ultra-wide lens, ensuring versatility across distances and perspectives. For colour accuracy and vivid reproduction, HUAWEI’s Ultra Chroma Camera fine-tunes each shot at the pixel level, enabling rich, true-to-life hues, especially in mixed or dim lighting scenarios.

And with its physically adjustable aperture, a rarity even among flagship phones, users gain more creative control over depth of field and exposure, just like they would with a DSLR lens.

In challenging conditions such as neon-lit urban streets or moonlit landscapes, the Pura 80 Pro shines. With Super Night Mode and AI-powered scene detection, it excels at rendering intricate light patterns, realistic textures and dynamic tones.

For users wanting even more, the Pura 80 Ultra includes a dual telephoto setup, 16 EV dynamic range, and additional telephoto zoom capabilities, but shares core innovations like the 1-inch sensor, Ultra Chroma Camera, and RYYB technology with the Pro model.
HUAWEI Pura 80 Series arrives in South Africa with next-level photography and head-turning design

Elegant craftsmanship, iconic design
The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro doesn’t just perform beautifully - it looks the part too. Inspired by the elegance of fine Italian jewellery and a design philosophy that blends Eastern and Western aesthetics, the handset features a Silk-Textured Frame and a sleek, curved design that blends Eastern and Western aesthetics. The device is available in two refined colourways: a jaw-dropping burgundy called Glazed Red, and a timeless and breathtaking Glazed Black.

The 6.8-inch HUAWEI X-True Display™ offers a 1–120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and 1440Hz PWM dimming for fluid, eye-friendly visuals. With peak brightness reaching 3000 nits, the screen remains clear and vibrant, even in direct sunlight.

Smart performance meets daily convenience
Under the hood, the Pura 80 Pro runs on EMUI 15, offering a host of intelligent features, including AI Messaging (which hides message content from non-owners), AI Gesture Controls, and Smart Control Button with fingerprint recognition.

Battery life is equally impressive, thanks to a 5170 mAh battery that supports 100W HUAWEI SuperCharge (wired) and 80W Wireless SuperCharge - making all-day usage and quick top-ups easier than ever. The handset also boasts IP68 and IP69 ratings, offering both water resistance and protection against high-pressure sprays.

Local Legends Don’t Just Race — They Build the Road for Others

Hi Guys,

In a sport where speed meets precision, and passion fuels every lap, two young local racers are carving their own path in the high-octane world of motorsport. Nathi Msimanga and Simphiwe Mohlahlo are more than just drivers; they’re Driven to be Legendary, living proof that with determination and resilience, legends are born, even in the face of obstacles.

From the very first time Nathi Msimanga picked up a Hot Wheels car and created the roar of an engine, to the time he felt the thrill of speed back in 2016, he knew racing was more than a hobby; it was his calling. Introduced to South African motorsport by his father, Nathi’s passion quickly grew beyond just competition. “It wasn’t just about racing cars, it was about the challenge, the drive to turn something I love into a real career, even when most people don’t understand why I’m chasing this dream,” he shares.

Local Legends Don’t Just Race — They Build the Road for Others

For Nathi, entering motorsport wasn’t simple. “The path to becoming a racer wasn’t easy. There’s little information about the cost, requirements, the various opportunities for racers of different ages or about the possible career paths for aspiring local racers. I was lucky my dad had an extensive network, which helped me get started.” That determination to break into an underrepresented sport continues to fuel his ambition to climb the leaderboard and inspire others to do the same.

Local Legends Don’t Just Race — They Build the Road for Others

Simphiwe Mohlahlo’s journey took a different route. Though she always admired speed and fast cars, it wasn’t until recently that she found herself fully immersed in the racing world. “I started attending events in 2023, just soaking it all in to understand what it takes to become a racer. Motorsport felt like a distant dream, especially as a woman. So I want to show girls of all ages that it’s possible to break through, no matter how expensive or tough it seems.”

Her drive to be legendary comes from a bigger purpose: “Every time I get into a racing car, I’m breaking barriers, creating awareness and building a path for other women who want to follow. It’s about creating opportunities and awareness for the next generation, reminding them that the Hot Wheels car in their hands is the beginning of a journey to being fulfilled.”

Local Legends Don’t Just Race — They Build the Road for Others

Being legendary, for both of them, is about more than trophies or fame. It’s about encouraging others to make a mark that’s uniquely theirs. “It’s about creating something new from your own passion, not copying what others have done,” Nathi says. Simphiwe agrees, adding, “Legends push beyond limits, break barriers, and overcome every challenge, proving what the words ‘dedication’ and ‘talent’ really mean.”

Local Legends Don’t Just Race — They Build the Road for Others

They both understand the power of inspiration. Showing kids in South Africa that racing isn’t just a fantasy from movies or overseas, it’s real and possible here. It starts with your first Hot Wheels car that leads you into the driver’s seat, and sometimes, it’s building a collection of premium cars that continues to inspire you to even greater heights. Simphiwe urges parents to notice and nurture the interests their children have, even if those interests don’t fit the usual mould. “My journey is different from most racers who start young, but I’m proof you can catch up and compete when you’re truly dedicated.”

Their favourite Hot Wheels cars reflect their personalities. Nathi is drawn to the iconic Fast and Furious R34 GTR, while Simphiwe champions the bold Ford Mustang Dark Horse. These little cars are more than toys; they’re symbols of speed, ambition, and dreams.

Together, Nathi and Simphiwe have turned their passion for racing into a lasting legacy and inspired a new generation to follow in their tire tracks. Being ‘Driven To Be Legendary’ is about passion, persistence, and the courage to chase a dream against the odds, and it can all start by getting your hands on the Hot Wheels Premium range to fuel your motor racing dreams, or even the dream of owning your own supercar.
