Cleaning Montblanc Meisterstrück Solitaire Le Grand Piston Filled Fountain Pen

Hi Friends,

I bought this Montblanc Meisterstrück Solitaire Le Grand fountain pen at an auction. I really thought this to be perfect for me as I always want some weight in my hands as compared to the resin design of the Montblanc 146. This has been an old model, and I am sure this has never been washed. The inks that were inside came out slowly, starting from blue-black to blue to green in the end. Someone was using all kinds of inks without even washing.

Cleaning Montblanc Meisterstrück Solitaire Le Grand Piston Filled Fountain Pen

It's a lot of effort to clean the piston-based fountain pen as compared to the ink cartridge or ink converter pens. There is another category left, which is the vacuum-filled fountain pen, but we will learn about it when we reach that stage. Montblanc recommends washing the pen every 3 months with normal tap water, which may be lukewarm, without any kind of detergent, etc.

The rings that are at the bottom also grant you access to the piston and other mechanisms hidden inside the steel body. You can use some strength and hold the slots and turn them. It will give you access to the inside, but beware that you don't lose anything, and later, if you have washed the mechanism, then properly grease the same as well. Also, if you open the piston thing, the ink will start flowing freely from the nib of the pen, so ensure that you have taken out all the ink.

My initial opinion about the mechanism that I saw was not that great, but considering the pen is still being used and is working perfectly so the quality is there. The piston is a kind of plastic piece that goes up and down the barrel of the pen. I also saw that there is some rust that has grown, but for the time being, I just closed the pen as it is. I will have to check with Montblanc Boutique Stores how much they charge to clean and oil the mechanism?
