@Operationhunger Takes Ownership of International #WorldHungerDay2017 #28May

Hi Guys,

Operation Hunger has aligned itself with World Hunger Day, which takes place annually on 28 May. World Hunger Day is an international initiative that is recognised globally to support efforts to overcome chronic hunger with sustainable, gender-focused strategies that empower people to make significant progress in overcoming hunger.

In South Africa, Operation Hunger are championing World Hunger Day to help improve levels of nutrition in impoverished communities through sustainable integrated income generating food security schemes.

Operation Hunger will be hosting the first of three World Hunger Day Fairs “Feed the Hungry Today” in 2018, as part of a proposed 3 year project period, this day will serve as a pledging platform for new willing donors as well as a platform for renewed commitment from participating donors.

Supporting Mandela Day
This July, Operation Hunger will be supporting Mandela Day with a blanket drive where individuals are prompted to donate blankets by dropping them off at Operation Hunger offices in their respective provinces.

Seeking sponsors

“After the loss of one of the founding members Ina Perlman in 2012, the organisation took a big knock and it has become even more difficult for us to raise funds and continue with our work. Due to the number of vulnerable children and adults increasing, there is a high need for donors and sponsorship from corporates to aid us, in reaching our goal of feeding 450 people per day,” said Executive Director, Minnie Okwirry.

Operation Hunger are seeking sponsorship and support for a number of their projects including feeding schemes, vegetable production projects and for their flagship initiative World Hunger Day in 2018 as they look to reduce hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.

About Operation Hunger
Operation Hunger was started in 1978 by Dr.Selma Browde with the late Dr. Nthato Motlana, who, together with a group of caring individuals, saw the need to combat malnutrition in South Africa. Since its inception, Operation Hunger has broadened its approach from relief work to include a focus on development work. It focuses on the development of improved methods of working with and assisting communities to become self-sustaining, independent and to run profitable projects themselves.
